The Project

First day of school. Today is August 21. Jamie's senior year of high school. Almost ten more months and she'd be graduated and off to college, fulfilling her dreams and going to med school. She couldn't wait. There was a lot of work that she needed to get done though to be able to be successful in the future. For right now, she just needed to focus on right here and right now and the work she'd be doing every day to finish off high school.

Jamie finished getting ready for school, running her fingers through her wild mane of curls before walking out of the bathroom and into her bedroom. She plopped down on her bed and started to tug on and lace up her tennis shoes as her little five month old English bulldog Midas, came tumbling in to try and eat the shoe laces.

Jamie laughed and reached her hand down, scooping the puppy up under his belly and then set him on the bed as she scratched his little head.
"Silly puppy..."
She mumbled fondly before returning her attention to her laces she was finishing tying up.

Once her laces were tied, she got up to her feet and smoothed out her clothes, looking at herself in the mirror to check out her outfit. She'd paired her high waisted jeans with a summery floral yellow blouse that was tucked into her jeans. She turned to face Midas and styled for him.
"Thoughts?"
She asked the dog.

Midas barked back in response to his owner, to which Jamie laughed and shook her head.
"You're right. It looks great. Come on, let's go eat breakfast. I'm gonna be late."
She said picking up Midas off the bed and setting him on the floor before walking out of her room and jogging down the stairs. Little Midas trampled behind her.

Jamie walked into the kitchen and kissed her mom on the cheek.
"Good morning."
She said sweetly to her. Lily smiled over at Jamie.
"Hey there you are. Quick get some food in you before you have to go."
She said sliding a plate of pancakes over to Jamie.

"Mom I don't have time for pancakes, I got to take a banana or something and go. I'm going to be late."
Jamie tried to argue, to which her mother held up a finger.
"Jamie Anne... you are eating these pancakes or else you are not leaving this house. Now sit."

Jamie pouted at her mother before she let out a heavy sigh and sat down on a stool at the counter and started digging into her pancakes. She shoveled them down as quickly as she could, worried she'd be late to school.

"Easy there tiger. Don't choke yourself."
Lily warned her. Jamie gave her a look before swallowing her bite of pancake.
"I'm fine. I have to go to school or I'm really going to be late. Okay? I love you. I'll see you later."
Jamie said and jumped up, kissing her mother on the cheek before she hurried out of the house and to her car.

She got settled inside the car and turned on her Spotify playlist before starting to drive herself to school. After about five minutes of driving, she had pulled up to the school and parked in her assigned parking space. As she was climbing out of the car, the school bell rang, causing her to run into the building to make it to her first class in time before the late bell rang.

She bolted down the hallway, dropping quick "sorry's" and "excuse me's" as she ran. She maneuvered around other students, racing to her first period. She sped into her History class and had barely made it into her seat before the late bell had rung. Jamie let out a heavy tired sigh and slumped in her chair before taking off her backpack and setting it on the floor next to her desk.

A chuckle came from nearby her. Jamie glanced to her right, where she'd heard the noise come from and she frowned.
"What's so funny, Ezra?"
She questioned. The boy sitting next to her shrugged.
"I just don't understand how you're almost always late for class. I'd thought you were the girl who cared all about school and grades. You'd think you'd care about at least showing up on time."
Ezra responded with a smirk and rested his hand under his chin. Jamie shot a glare at him and opened her mouth to make a snarky remark until she was interrupted.

"Everyone settle in. Let's get ready for class."
The teacher announced, tapping her meter stick on the board. The other students in her class sat down in their own seats and quieted themselves as class began and her teacher started class. Jamie sighed in defeat and shook her head as she ignored Ezra and focused on her teacher and the fact that class had started.

Ezra Harding... Probably her worst enemy. The guy was a total jerk and a big hoe too. He was a player. He had a new girl pressed up against the lockers in a heated make out session everyday. It wasn't anything new. The boy was disgusting and Jamie swore he was trying to make her life a million times harder than it already was.

She pulled out her notebook and pencil, setting them out on her desk as she glanced up towards the board where the teacher had begun scribbling down things on it. The class audibly groaned after she'd written out the words "History Project" across the board. Jamie lightly gnawed on the eraser of her pencil, curious as to what these projects would entail.

"To start of the year and to figure out what you've learned so far from history in your high school careers, I'm assigning history projects. You'll each be assigned to work on a history project. Your topic is your choice. I will however be assigning each of you a partner to work with."
Her teacher started, to which all the students groaned again in response. She gave her class a look before clearing her throat.
"Alright, Anyways, moving on. Please listen for your name and who you'll be partnered with for this project."
She said before beginning to read names off a list, reading who was partnered with who.

Jamie had zoned out the droning on of her teacher and the names. She'd always been more into doing her projects on her own, but there wasn't much she could do if she was being handed a partner to work on this project with. She scribbled in her notebook, writing down ideas for what topics she could possibly do for her project. As long as she was more focused on the project over her partner, then she was for sure to have a good project and pass.

"Jamie, you'll be partnered with Ezra."
Her teacher's voice sliced like a knife through her thoughts and she could hear her as clear as day. Jamie's eyes widened and she dropped her pencil, jerking her head up to stare at her teacher in horror.
"No... no no no..."
She said. This couldn't be right. There had to be a mistake. There was no way that she was working on this project with that disgusting whore who loved to shove his tongue down girl's throat and also put his other thing elsewhere.

A laugh came from next to her and she turned her head to look over at the boy, a devilish wide grin spread across his lips.
"Oh yes... yes yes yes."
He told her and laughed again as he crossed his arms over his chest. He was really enjoying this too much.

Jamie turned her attention back ahead and she let her head fall on her desk, a heavy frustrated groan falling from her lips.

She was partnered with Ezra freaking Harding.

Could the beginning of her senior year get any worse?
