CHAPTER TWO

Percy fidgeted uncomfortably in the too big cargo pants and tank top SHIELD had managed to scrounge up for him. They still hadn't let him leave the room he had woke up in after he attacked the archer that was just a little too reminiscent of Apollo for the son of Poseidon's tastes. Neeks would laugh in his face about this if...

Well, he very well could have survived their run-in with Zemo. Maybe.

"Major Jackson!"

He startled. "Sorry. What?"

The pirate scowled at him and Not-Leo giggled sadistically in the back. Steve just sat there, pinching his nose and sighing, lamenting the fact that the oblivious teen before him somehow saved the world three times.

"As I was saying, SHIELD would like to offer you a place in the Avenger's Initiative; an elite team assembled to protect the world from threats too big for anyone else to deal with. Interested?"

Percy shrugged. "I have to visit some places and get used to the twenty-first century before I give you my answer, Director. I hope you understand; I've seen so much violence in my life that I just want a second to breathe for once."

"Of course," the pirate said with a sharp nod. "I'll have one of my best men take you where you want to go and help you get adjusted to the times." He turned to the little camera hiding in the corner. "Hill, send in Parker, will you?"

A few seconds later the door hissed open and spat out and ruffled looking teen with all too familiar mischief in his eyes. Either Hermes was at it again or this child was a legacy because there was no other plausible answer. The thought made Percy's heart heavy.

"Parker," the pirate barked, "This is Major Jackson. You'll be helping him get acclimated to the twenty-first century and taking him where he wants to go. And don't let your team get all fangirly about him, yeah?"

Parker did a very bad imitation of standing attention, puffing out his chest and trying to stand at his very tallest. It was just so Stolls.

"Yes sir, pirate sir!"

Fury glared heatedly at the kid. "Just get out of my sight."

Parker smirked and dashed across the room to pull Percy to his feet. With a sigh, Percy complied, but no before shooting Steve one last look. "I'll be back, Spangles. Don't worry your pwetty wittle head about dear ol' me!"

Steve rolled his eyes and bit back the laugh that Tony had no reservations letting out.

.

"Where to, Major?"

"Take me to the veterans cemetery. It's time I visited some old friends to say goodbye."

Peter smiled sadly at the teen who was barely a year older than him physically, yet had seen too much for even a battle-hardened warrior. He could see it in the major's eyes; he was absolutely shattered.

The major and Peter piled into the back of one of SHIELD's no-name black vans and one of the faceless agents entered the driver's seat, seeing as Peter wasn't old enough to drive with a 'friend' and Major Jackson was probably still in shock from waking up from his ice nap.

It was fine, though. Peter didn't know where the cemetery even was.

Desperate to break the stony silence of the car, Peter turned to Major Jackson to make some conversation. "So Major Jackson, how does it feel to be out of the ice?"

"Percy."

"Huh?"

"My name is Percy, Agent Parker."

Peter smirked. "Well, if you insist on going by 'Percy', call me Peter; I'm barely considered an agent anyways. More on a liaison, anyway."

"Really? What agency?"

"Uh... It's more of a team. The Western Flame? We are a group of extraordinary-"

Percy waved him off. "I know what the Western Flame is, kid. I practically founded the dam thing with Chiron Brunner and the other original nine."

"You?" Peter whispered in awe. The agent chuckled from his place behind the wheel.

Percy nodded. "Perseus Achilles Jackson. Perseus, Son of Poseidon, at your service."

"D-did you know Travis Stoll?"

Percy smiled warmly and squeezed Peter's shoulder in a friendly way. "You have his eyes, you know. And Katie's smile."

"I just wish I could have met them," Peter sighed.

"They would be proud that you are carrying on the legacy of mischief. Well, your grandfather at least."

.

The graveyard was cold; a biting wind running rampant from the north. Dead grass and wilted flowers were the only thing to be found beside the stone remnants and deceptively cheery flags to honor the fallen. It was silent as, well, a grave as Percy trekked over the brittle foliage; Travis' grandson a respectful distance behind him.

The son of Poseidon shuddered as the ghosts of his past seemed to play between the secluded tombstones of his long-gone friends. He could almost see Clarisse cracking her knuckles and sparring with Chris while Beckendorf and Howard Stark tinkered away on something. Worst of all was the faint giggle from Annabeth that seemed to carry on the wind from her illusory place among the seven.

He could almost feel their stares as he approached their graves; Connor clinging onto his brother to keep him and Katie from kissing again. Were their bright smiles for him?

Percy! We missed you, bro!

He missed you too, G-man.

But no; all of it was fake; a mirage made by a desperate man, only to be broken by looking at the Stoll legacy.

"Peter, would you like to see you grandparents?"

"Yes," he mumbled softly, coming to stand next to the major.

"Travis and Katie was some of the cheeriest, strangest folks I ever had the pleasure of meeting. You would swear up and down that they hated each other, but we all knew it was just a matter of time; Piper and Drew especially. I couldn't wish for better friends."

Peter nodded.

"It's here that it really sinks in, ya know? My whole family, whole world, is gone. Poof! All that's left of these lively people is stories and cold marble. It sucks."

.

He looked into his portal in interest. So the Champion of Olympus wanted his family back? Interesting.

Perhaps it was time to involve HYDRA in his little plan of conquest. After all, they had something(s) Major Jackson would be very much interested in.

Something told him the Champion's loyalty of his past life was greater than whatever weak bond the hero had forged with the captain and that legacy since awakening. Jackson and Rogers hadn't split on good terms last time. Their little bargaining chips would ensure that Major Jackson was on their side.

How could he resist saving his all but brothers?

Yes, it's time to awaken the Winter Soldier and the Ghost King once more.
