CHAPTER FOUR
Steve watched silently from behind the one-way mirror of the interrogation room Fury had on his helicarrier. His little brother was inside with two HYDRA goons at the moment, giving them his special wolf glare that had made battle-hardened soldiers piss- he meant wet, sorry- their pants when they had it turned on him. Poor Sweets; they never did let him live it down...
"Bill, you're gonna tell me how Zemo survived. We tore that place down brick by brick."
"Baron Zemo 'ad a kid, Submariner. Ze new baron is looking for revenge on dat Vestern Flame for vhat ze did, starting wit ze fish outta time."
The other prisoner chuckled, causing Percy to round his glare on the man.
"You got something to say, Private Joker?"
"Only zat dat bitch screamed vhen my grandfather gutted her. Yer precious little cousin begged for death, but zat vas too go to give 'im for bombing Zemo's castle."
Percy started to scramble across the table in a fit of rage, only for Peter Parker, Tony's little pet-project that he never shut up about, to step out of the shadows he didn't know could hide anyone and wrestle Percy away from the minions. He whispered something in the major's ear, causing him to deflate.
Percy turned abruptly and marched out of the room, Peter close on his heels. He reached a hand out of grab Percy's shoulder and comfort him; Steve knew that the deaths of Lieutenant di Angelo and Captain Chase had hit him hard, but he didn't realize how deep the pain went.
The teen ripped his body out of Steve's grasp with an icy glare. "Don't, Steve."
"W-what? I can't comfort my little brother anymore?"
Percy rose to his full, impressive, height and the room seemed to shake and glow around him. "You lost that right when you let Buck get killed so you could have the spotlight. If you hadn't needed to be the hero, Bucky wouldn't have died on the train, which was carrying the soldiers to protect Zemo. If those soldiers hadn't gotten to the baron, Nico would still be alive too! Leave me alone, Rogers."
Percy stormed off before Steve could string together anything to say. Peter, however, didn't go with him.
"My grandpa was like a brother to him, ya know? I remember being a little kid and hearing stories about 'Great Uncle Percy'. I also know the full story to that day, I know how bad losing his girl and brother cut up Major Jackson. That's why he left the Commandos the next day. He couldn't stand to face you or your happy little family when his was ripped apart. That's why he went on that solo mission up north that got him stuck in the ice." He got right in the captain's face, eyes blazing with hidden power. "It's your fault, Rogers, and our family isn't the kind to forget debts and revenge. Be careful around my hero, or you'll some very angry, very powerful people baying for your blood."
.
He glanced at the flaming red hair of the woman standing a few behind him. "Agent Romanov, what gives me the pleasure?"
"I thought you could use some company, Major."
He sighed and popped his back before settling back down on his perch by the railings of the deck. "I still can't quite get over how much has changed in sixty-seven years. And how much has stayed the same."
She walked up to join him, gazing out over New York City. Right above the Empire State Building was the floating city that only a select few could see. Nat couldn't bring herself to tell Fury about it when it hadn't ever presented a problem.
Percy caught where she was looking and smirked. "Beautiful, no? That is Olympus, the birthplace of the Western Flame. You are indeed special if you can see it, Agent Romanov."
"Natasha."
"Pardon?"
"My name is Natasha, Major."
He grinned at her, green eyes swirling like untamable waves. "If I'm gonna call you Natasha, I insist you call me Percy. None of this 'Major Jackson' crap everybody seems to like."
They were silent for a few minutes, just gazing at the floating city.
"Do you think I should do it?"
"Do what?"
"Join the pirate's little team. I want to avenge my brothers and my gal; if Zemo's somehow involved in this, it's a good a way as any."
She smiled wearily at him. "No one else will admit it, but we could use all the help we can get. Fury hasn't told the team what the threat we're facing is, but I snuck in and overheard part of his conversation on his cell." She ignored his confused looking, opting for explaining the lingo later. "There's a god threatening Earth, apparently. Loki."
Percy clenched his jaw and thought for a moment. "So ol' snake face is back. Now you guys really will need me. Has anyone tried contacting Thor?"
"How?"
He waved her off. "Never mind that now. Where's the pirate? I need to speak to him about joining your little girl scout club and getting in contact with my family."
Natasha smiled faintly at the kid's name for the all-powerful director of SHIELD. Major Jackson was something else, that's for sure. "Come with me. I'm sure Fury will be happy to hear your decision."
.
Tony tried to look at Peter like a stern parent, but couldn't keep the corner of his mouth from curling up at his kid's antics. Pete didn't even try to look sheepish from his place on the table in Tony's room while he was a 'guest' of SHIELD.
"You yelled at the capsicle?"
He shrugged. "Nobody threatens my family, Tony, no matter how messed up it is."
Tony sighed, flopping onto his bed. "I'll say. Have you contacted anybody to let them know their hero's alive?"
Now Peter looked sheepish. "I kinda wanted to just keep him to myself for a little longer. He's been my hero all my life, that's not a crime, is it?"
"Kid, I'll let you in on a secret. Ever since my dad told me who my mom was, I've been searching for the lost hero of Olympus. How else do you think the ops team found him?"
"You?" Peter asked, eyes wide like plates.
"Granted, I had a little help from his brother and Khione, but yeah."
Pete hopped of the table to flop down by his somehow-related-cousin. "Tony?"
"Yeah, kid?"
"Think he'll actually join your guys on whatever pet project Fury's throwing together?"
"Pete, you didn't listen to Travis' stories enough if you even have to ask that. If the world is in danger, Percy'll be there with a snarky comment and his dam sword to save it."
.
The challenge: Who is Tony's mother?
It was too good not to put in! All will be explained...
