Chapter No 35: The Heart Wrenching Past (1)
Abhira was sitting in her car, the weight of Akshara,s betrayal settled heavily over her chest and she struggled to breathe.
Her heart ached and she gulped the heavy lump that formed in her throat, her eyes watering.
Mumma kahan ja rahe ho?
Mumma mat jao na.
Chahe duniya kyun na khilaf ho jaye aapke per maa humesha bharosa kerti hai.
Trust me mumma.
Mumma kuch bolo na.
Abhira could feel tears welling up in her eyes, the memories washing over her like cold waves binding her heart to the ache of betrayal.
It finally felt too sharp
Too cold
Too deep
Too much.
Her stomach churned in discomfort and she felt bile raising in her throat and she immediately kept a hand over her mouth and her eyes widened, a mixture of panic and discomfort etched into them. She reached out, her hands trembling with urgency as she lowered the window pane.
And then, as the cool breeze wafted into the car, she turned her head slightly to look out and felt the first breath, though trembling but unrestricted leave her and suddenly her eyes felt heavy with unshed tears.
She bit the inside of her cheek and pursed her lips and felt hot tears trickling down her cheeks and she immediately wiped them with the back of her hand.
She then gripped the steering wheel with both her hands and breathed out rather harshly. A sense of emptiness washed over her and she tightened her grip over the staring wheel, her knuckles turning white from the intensity of her grip.
The car rolled to a stop in front of her namesake home and the gates opened.
Parking her car, she opened the door and got out.
She entered inside the place she called her home and looked around, everything looked dark and the walls seemed to close her in.
Abhira beta.
Abhira turned around swiftly and looked at her mother with emotionless eyes.
Ji.
Abhira said crossing her arms across her chest.
Akshara held back a gasp, Abhira,s emotionless attitude unsettling her.
Yuvraj se mil....
Abhira held Akshara,s hand, cutting her off and placed a few prescriptions and a bottle of pills in her open palm.
Yeh kya hai?
Akshara asked, confused and unsettled seeing the prescriptions and a bottle, her palm suddenly felt as if it was frozen.
Yuvraj se milne gayi thi.
Abhira said, her emotionless eyes locking into her mother.
Uska anjam hai yeh.
She added and Akshara stumbled backwards in shock.
Abhira...
Akshara trailed off and raised her hand to cup Abhira,s face but Abhira,s eyes widened, her emotionless facade slipping away, her heart raced, her instincts screaming danger.
NAHIN MUJHE MAT MARO.
She paled and yelled out. Her hands moved to cover her face to protect herself as her heart raced imagining the worst scenarios.
Abhira.
Abhir called out in sheer worry coming from behind and held her shoulder, pulling her form close which was frozen with terror.
Abhir moved to stand in front of her her, pulling her frozen and fear-stricken form into the warmth of his embrace, her hands clenched and unclenched a few times before she fell limp in his embrace.
Abhira.
Abhir yelled out as he held her, the worry lines etched into his forehead deepened and he picked her up. He couldn't hear Akshara,s panicked scream as he walked towards the bedroom, his steps careful yet laced with panic.
Akshara,s heart raced, a shiver raced down her spine, anxiety clouding her heart and she dropped the bottle of pills in sheer panic and hurriedly followed Abhir.
Abhira.
Akshara semi yelled in sheer panic as she entered inside the room, her steps heavy with uncertainty.
Abhir immediately sat beside Abhira and reached out to touch her forehead and neck.
He sucked in a rather forced breath, his eyes looking at Abhira,s pale form that lay motionless on the bed. Uncertainty loomed over them like a dark, heavy cloud that refused to lift.
Abhir looked at his mother, glaring at her and then said through gritted teeth
Thermometer.
Akshara, with her heart racing, rushed out and came back with a thermometer.
Abhir who was caressing the back of Abhira,s overly heated palm lifted his hand and Akshara gave him the thermometer.
A few minutes passed and a beep sound filled the otherwise quite room.
Abhir gasped, his eyes widening in shock.
103!!!
Abhir said, his voice trembling with shock.
Akshara stumbled backwards, almost falling on the floor.
Kya?
She gasped, her voice trembling. Her heart hitched.
Shruti who had entered inside, stepped forward, her eyes searching Abhira,s now crimson form due to the feverish heat.
Shruti tentatively reached out, her hand caressed Abhira,s forehead soothing the frowns etched into her skin.
As Shruti observed Abhira, she saw the worry and stress etched all over her face and looked at Akshara, her rage bubbling over
Shruti. Pani aur patiyan lao.
She didn't need to be told twice. She hurried out and filled water in a bowl and grabbed a damp towal from the counter and rushed back to the room.
Shruti thought that Abhir will let her take care of Abhira but Abhir proved her wrong by grabbing the damp towal from her hand and tending to Abhira himself.
He dipped the damp towal in the water and tenderly placed it on her forehead, his heart aching with worry as he caressed her forehead with the damp towal, a mixture of urgency and care evident in his action that made Shruti,s heart ache with a mixture of hope and affection.
She watched with a delicate sheen of tears welling up in her eyes as he worked the damp towal, brushing it tenderly over her neck and face, his hands trembling with worry and a sense of care, a mixture of pain and worry etched across his face, deepening the lines of concern.
She watched as he leaned in, placing a tender kiss on her forehead.
At that moment, Shruti longed to comfort him and the longing was too powerful to be contained within the coffins of her chest and she walked towards him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
Abhir looked up at her, his eyes red with unshed tears, his grip tightening on Abhira,s hand and he shook his head sideways.
I can't see her like this.
Abhir said, his voice heavy.
Everything around Shruti blurred into insignificance and she reached out and gently circled her arms around his broad shoulders, hands locking behind his neck and she pulled him into a tender embrace, her heart aching with a mixture of pain and concern and she ruffled his hair.
Abhir,s breath left him in a trembling whoosh, his shoulders slumping in defeat. Akshara had moved out of the room to pray for Abhira,s safety while Shruti chose to stay there with Abhira and console Abhir as well.
Abhir sighed, his heart heavy with the weight of his emotions as he spoke
Main haar gaya hoon Shruti.
Abhir said, his voice filled with a sense of tiredness. Shruti continued to hold him and ruffled his hair.
I couldn't protect my sister.
Don't say like this Abhir.
Shruti said, placing a finger on his lips, silencing him.
I couldn't protect her.
She held him and one hand of her lifted his chin and their eyes locked.
It's not your fault.
She kissed his forehead, her lips brushing against his forehead in a tender caress.
Toh kiska fault hai?
Abhir yelled out, a fresh wave of tears spilling over.
Shruti gasped softly, a flicker of fear crossing her face before she composed herself and spoke
Kismat ka ya shayad samaj ka ya Akshara aunty ka
Matlab?
Abhir asked confused and Akshara stepped inside the room.
Stress.
The single word that escaped her lips and then an uncomfortable silence enveloped the entire room.
Abhir gazed at his mother, his eyes full of rage and was about to say something but Shruti broke the silence instead
Aap ko lagta hai aap hi sahi hoti hain humesha?
Shruti asked, her voice sharp, cutting through the uncomfortable silence that had enveloped them.
Shruti....
Abhir trailed off, his eyes shifting between the two as he clenched Abhira,s overly heated palm.
Shruti looked at Abhir, a sad smile graced her face. She swallowed hard, trying to hold back her tears.
Jab se inn donon ka divorce hua hai sab badal gaya hai.
Shruti said, her voice chocked with emotion.
Abhira pretends to be fine and happy but she's not.
Shruti said, gulping herd.
Upar se Abhira ko shift hona pada inke sath. She lived with her maasi and cousins and had to share everything. Baat baat pe dant, mistrust sab common ho gaya.
Shruti said, her voice tight with emotion.
Ek din....
Shruti trailed off feeling a lump forming in her throat and then forced herself to gulp it down.
Ruhi khana kha rahi thi tezi se and Abhira stopped her ke tezi se mat khao gale mein lag jayega but Sameer Khurana (Ruhi,s father slapped her and said meri beti ke khane pe nazar dalegi tu? Kha kha na.
Shruti took a shaky breath and continued to speak
Jab se shift huye tab se Abhira se chin ker har cheez Ruhi ko de di jati hai, reason Kya hai jante ho? Kyunke with Ruhi ko pasand aa jati hai and I remember Abhira ka newly purchased pink suit jo usne kabhi pehna bhi nahin tha woh inhone utha ker Ruhi ko de diya and when Abhira said ke I wanted to wear that suit toh inhone kaha mujhe lagta tha teri cheezon per haq hai mera...
Abhir looked at his mother, a mixture of emotions flashing in his eyes, his hands balling into fists at his sides.
Tell me more about it.
