12 Cold Hearted
POV Aleah
“Here you go,” Ethan said as he sits next to me. He brought me hot chocolate from North’s kitchen. “They all seem nice,” I smiled and tasted the sweetness of the hot chocolate.
“Yeah,” Ethan whispered. “I still have hard time to think that she is our ancestor,” Ethan said quietly.
“Well, mum showed me a painting and she looks like the real Elsa of Arendelle. The Jack Frost thing is still a hard one though. A mythological thing using the power of both wind and ice?” I sighed and Ethan hummed.
“I can use the powers of winter,” Ethan sighs and I glance at him. I notice how his mug is frosting.
“I was looking for you,” Elsa smiles as she joins to the table to sit with us. “Toothiana told me that I once had twins that were like you. My little girl, Evangeline had the power of wind and my son, Matthew, who controlled ice and snow. “ Elsa’s voice fainted into whisper and she looked sad.
“You can’t remember them? Do you?” I questioned and she shook her head. “I heard that Evangeline was awesome queen,” I grinned and I saw Elsa’s expression becoming happier.
“That’s wonderful,” Elsa sighed and I noticed how Ethan was trying to avoid the conversation and drinking his hot chocolate.
“Tell her about Matthew?” I pushed Ethan’s shoulder and he groaned. “C’mon! You must have learned something in your history lessons. You know that it’s a part of prince training,” I grinned and he turned red.
“Well, Matthew spent a lot time with his citizens. They say that he threw the greatest winter ball’s in all the kingdom’s nearby,” Ethan said quietly and then he placed his mug down.
“So he was real after all?” Ethan sighed and looks at Elsa. “Who?” I muttered.
“Jack Frost. I mean I saw him as a kid, he was always there when the first snow came and we would play snow fights. Then I got older and I thought that I just imagined it all and then I didn’t see him anymore,” Ethan sounded sad and he stood up, he messed up his hair and breathed nervously.
“I stopped believing in him and that’s why he stopped coming? Am I right?” Ethan looks at Elsa who nodded her head.
“But what’s making him like that?” Ethan cried aloud and I see how the Guardians are coming to us.
“The children lost their faith. His heart is consumed by darkness and fears,” North sighed and placed his hand on Ethan’s shoulder.
I crossed my arms, “His heart? Tell me more?”
“A dark crust has hardened his heart that once was fun loving. His core is gone,” Elsa said with her voice cracking. “I failed as the Protector. I failed as his wife,” she whispered and I felt a cold aura radiating from her.
“That’s it!” I cheered.
“Okay, the ankle biter has lost it,” Bunny sighed and tapped his foot to ground.
“What did you thing of Aleah?” Ethan asks and looks at me.
“Well, at first we dress you up like him. Dye your hair which Bunny can probably help us since he is in the egg painting business. Your head is like an egg anyway,” I grinned and Ethan’s eyes widened.
Ethan was about to say something smart so I raised my voice, “Are you up for the job rabbit?” I smile to Bunnymund who groaned. “Bunny, not a kangaroo or rabbit. Bunny! ” Bunnymund muttered and I smirked to him. He just rolled his eyes, crossed his arms and nodded his approval.
“Alright so what happens after you have pimped me up?” Ethan whined.
“Pimped him up? What does that mean?” North asks from Bunnymund who shrug his shoulders.
“Like done a makeover,” I told to the confused Guardians. “So, then we will throw him into crowd--,” I started.
“Can we stuff him into a sack!” North exhaled excitedly. I glance at Elsa and Ethan starts to yell at North that he will stuff him into where sun doesn’t shine if he tries it.
“No, we’re not putting my cousin inside a sack but--,” I tried to continue again but this time Ethan interrupted with his thank you and I give him an angry glare.
“As I was saying. We will take him into crowded area and he starts acting like Jack Frost would. Making snow and fun times --,” I was telling again.
“I can’t fly Als,” Ethan sighed.
“I FREAKING NOW THAT! Just let me tell!” I shouted and waved my hand at him. Ethan yelped when he rose to air and hit the ceiling. “Sorry, my powers sort of explode when I get angry,” I mumbled as Ethan was gasping for air on the floor.
“You did that on purpose,” Ethan hissed and I giggled a bit. “Sure, it’s a way to make you fly however. I will use my wind power on you and you’re flying like a bird!” I nodded my head in confidence.
“That might actually work,” North said. “What do you think of it?” North looks at Elsa who has kept rather silent.
“More like a flying uncontrolled rocket,” Ethan sighed. I was about to throw him against the ceiling again when Elsa laughed a bit. “I think that it will work but,” she sighed.
“But what?” Ethan asked and was testing if his arm still works.
“Even if the children would believe in him again, his heart would remain like the way it is now. Bitter, black and hard,” Elsa made a quiet sob after ending her words. She turns around and embraces herself. Toothiana flies to her and places her hands on Elsa’s shoulders.
“Well, I have a theory,” I started and people turn around. “Okay, what has the bookworm figured out?” Ethan raised his eyebrow.
“You need to freeze his heart. I mean you have done it in the legend and since you exist, the legend must be true?” I stare at her.
“I have done what?” Elsa gasped. “You froze your sister’s heart. She almost died but you thawed her heart. Oh and the whole Arendelle as well,” I smiled to her. Elsa seemed shocked.
“You don’t remember?” I ask from her and she shakes her head, biting her lower lip.
“Now look what you’ve done! You made our relative hurt,” Ethan frowned and tapped his foot on floor.
“I’m alright,” Elsa said with her voice breaking. “You think that it would help?” She asks from me and I shrug.
“Well, technically the cold might damage the dark crust that you’re speaking of. Maybe it can make it crack when you thaw it? But,” I sighed.
“You don’t know if it works and I guess that he needs to freeze fully?” Elsa gulped and I nodded my head.
“Let me think,” Elsa said quickly and left us. Now we’re alone with the Guardians. I see that one of them is missing and I look around North’s toyshop. The one with big rabbit ears and weird accent is gone.
I’m watching some dolls that have brown curly hair. A yeti is painting their faces and when I took one the ground started to shake behind of me. I see how hole appears and then Bunnymund jumps out. I flinched because it surprised me.
“So where’s that replica?” Bunnymund states and looks around him.
“I’m here,” Ethan told him as he walked forward. “So you want to make me look like Jack, perfect,” he sighed and sat on a chair. Bunnymund started taking out his paints from a basket that he was holding.
“This is so wrong,” Ethan groaned when Bunnymund started to spread the color into Ethan’s hair. I heard Toothiana giggling a bit.
“Trust me mate, you’ll be just like Jack after I’m finished,” Bunny grinned and continued. I watched as he colored Ethan’s black hair into white. I finished the messy windblown look with a gust of wind. It made Ethan frown.
“Take these,” Elsa walks to Ethan and hands him a box.
“What is in here?” Ethan looks at Elsa. “Your eye color is a bit off,” Elsa smiles slyly and Ethan opens the box.
“You made these?” Ethan says as he takes out one cyan blue contact lens.
Elsa nodded her head, “They’re from pure ice. I think that you can handle them.” Ethan hesitates for a moment but then he places the contact lens into his eye.
“Yup he is perfect replica of him,” North chuckles and I tilted my head as I look at Ethan. He has a hypnotic blue eye color, he messes up his white hair and then he stands. “This is stupid,” Ethan muttered.
“Try to use the powers!” Toothiana squealed and then Ethan sigh his defeat. He waves his hand quickly in the air and he does a snowflake. “Just like him!” Toothiana laughed happily and flew to hug Ethan who blushed.
POV Elsa
Ethan reminds me so much of him, so much that it makes my heart ache. “Excuse me for a moment,” I said quietly as I left from the toyshop. I went outside and I watched at the moon. It was late already and I look through the frosted window to the inside. Everyone seems happy to look at Ethan’s transformation.
I just hope that this plan will work. This is what I owe to Jack Frost, bringing his core back and get him back the way he was. If I would have known what would have happened, I wouldn’t have listened to Manny. I would have come to meet the Guardians much before and discover who I am.
The sound of a creaking door made me turn around. I see Toothiana coming out from the door, she is rubbing her shoulders as she shivers from the cold. “Elsa, I need to speak with you,” she laughs nervously and I see that her breathe forms steam.
“You shouldn’t be out here, you’ll freeze. The night is really cold tonight,” I said while I pointed at the snowy landscape. The stars were shining bright tonight.
“I just n-need a brief moment,” she shivered and then she was handing me something. “What is it?” I asked as I took a silver tube into my hands.
“It’s your childhood memories, you should have them. I managed to f-find it,” she smiles sadly. My finger is brushing at the cool metal surface of the tube.
“Thank you Toothiana. I’ll take a look but you should go inside,” I smiled to her and she nodded her gratitude. Some warmth escaped from the open door as she entered back inside.
I look at the moon, “Manny. Is it alright for me to open it?” I asked and I took the silence as a yes.
Quickly I took some distance to North’s home. The cabin of his was far away when I finally stopped. I bit my lower lip as I slide the tube open. Ice crystals are now flowing around me and I start to see memories.
In the first memory I’m going inside my parent’s bedroom and I hear baby’s crying. Slowly I walked close to the bed and I see my mother. She’s holding a baby girl who is crying. My father introduced me to Anna, my little sister. I giggled and made it snow above her head. She started to look at the slowly falling flakes and ended her cries.
My next memory is from me and Anna. We’re playing in the snow. She’s making snow angels and running around while I try to catch her.
The memory after that made me feel uneasy right away. I was sleeping on my bed when Anna runs to wake me up. She wants to go out to skate while the moon is shining bright. At first I didn’t want to but I went with her anyway. I see how we’re making our way towards the lake and I wish that I could tell us that we shouldn’t go there as if something bad is going to happen. Soon I see how my sister is in trouble when the ice is cracking under her. I was too afraid to help her, I couldn’t use my powers like I wanted to. Instead I pushed her away but now it was me standing on the ice, without a way to escape. I just wished for someone to help. Then he came, I saw Jackson Overland. He came but then he was gone. I saw him drowning.
“Jack,” I whispered as I remembered how he saved me. Now the memory is clear.
These memories weren’t enough. In the next one I froze my baby sister. Nothing had made me more scared. That time she was saved because I hit on her head and not to her heart.
When the memories faded I closed the tube. My head was a bit dizzy since now I remember my childhood fully. I remember my little sister Anna, I remember Jack.
I run back to North’s home and everyone seems startled when I appeared on the doorway panting. I’m holding the memory tube close to my chest. “Let’s safe him. I’ll try everything,” I managed to say in between my breaths.
Ethan glances at Aleah and they both stand up. “Where should we start?” Ethan asks from Aleah.
“The kingdom of Corona of course, they have really open hearts there,” Aleah smiled to Ethan who went red.
“Someone’s heart sure is wide open whenever we go there,” Aleah said mischievously and Ethan tried to avoid her gaze.
“What’s in there?” North asks. I see Sandy doing a dream sand show above is head. He is showing portraits of a girl. Ethan noticed it and slammed his hand through each sand portrait as it appeared. Aleah was laughing a lot.
“There’s a girl,” Aleah grinned and Ethan covered her mouth.
“So better get us moving then,” Ethan laughed nervously and I still saw the blush on his face.
“Elsa, take these,” North said as he handed me more snow globes. I thanked him and he smiled sadly, “These can get you out from trouble fast. We’ll remain here and protect the Pole. Also we’ll worry about the things going around us. You worry only Corona and yourselves.”
I left the Pole with Ethan and Aleah. I look around Corona which is bathing in the sun. It’s summer time in here. “Aleah, it’s freaking hot in here and you think that I should create winter in here!” Ethan shouted.
“Act more into your character. An angrily shouting Jack Frost doesn’t fit into picture,” Aleah giggled and patted Ethan to his chest. I could almost see the smoke rising from Ethan’s head.
“Let’s get to market area. There’s always some kids when we come here!” Aleah yells and runs to an alley. “Better follow her?” Ethan shrugged his shoulders and runs after her. I follow them quickly and then I see them hiding behind of a building and looking at the market area.
“So the plan is that I’ll go first and then Ethan will walk in there, starting to make some snow. Oh! Don’t forget about making the kids having fun. And I? Well, I’ll make you fly at some point and scream your name like a crazy fangirl,” Aleah spoke to Ethan. “My name?” Ethan questioned and Aleah groaned and rolled her eyes, “No! Jack Frost’s! You’re him right now!”
“Oh,” Ethan sighed. “Yeah, now.. Let’s start!” Aleah hissed as she goes into market area. She’s pretending to smell some flowers.
“I guess that it’s my turn. How can I be like him? Any hints?” Ethan looks at me and ruffles his hair.
“Well, just.. be a bit hyper, laugh a lot and mess with people. Create some fun times around you?” I smiled and touched his cheek. “It’ll go fine,” I whispered and he nodded.
I see him running in the market area and I watch as he jumps on top of a fountain.
“Winter is early this year!” Ethan chuckles and I see him shooting a beam of ice up in the air. It explodes into shining ice crystals and people start to look at him. I hear some whispers about how nice trick it was. Aleah turns around and points at Ethan. “That’s Jack Frost! Oh my gosh! The one and only Guardian of fun! He nips on people’s noses and brings winter! He is here! YAY!” Aleah jumps up and down. I can see Ethan flushing.
Ethan is panting when more and more people gather around him. “Do more tricks!” One child yells and claps his hands together.
“Nice to see a street performance once in a while,” one old man chuckles.
“Street performance?” Ethan repeats and his eyes widen. “I’m no street performance maker, I’m the one who brings winter and games,” he grins and jumps down from the fountain. He touches the fountains surface and it freezes immediately. People are gasping and someone backs away a bit.
“Don’t be worried, I won’t harm anyone,” Ethan says and there’s snowing. Some kids are starting to laugh and then Ethan did a small hill. “Anyone up for sliding down the hill?” Ethan chuckled and some children run on top of it.
Everyone is having fun. And I hear ‘Jack Frost’ being said in many directions now. Suddenly I see Ethan rising up in the air, he is waving his hands and legs as he tries to find his balance. He is laughing while he is doing it. Then I see how he lands down.
Soon Ethan and Aleah return to me running. “That worked great!” Aleah squealed in excitement.
“It seems so, “ I chuckled a bit.
“Ethan Jay Frost!” I heard a girls voice shouting and I turn around. I see a girl staring at us. “I thought that it was you and Aleah being here proves it! What are you doing? I mean you haven’t dyed your hair before or did some tricks!” She insists to know.
“Umm.. hey Lili,” Ethan laughs nervously.
“That’s Lili. She lives in Corona, she’s from a noble household here. Ethan is arranged to marry her. Good thing since she will keep him under control,” Aleah whispered to me. I noticed how Ethan looked at Lili, he must actually like her.
“So what are you doing exactly?” Lili sighs and goes to Ethan. Her hand brushes some hair away friom Ethan’s forehead. “Didn’t know that you’re into grandpa look,” Lili chuckles and Ethan smiles to her.
“It’s a long story but I’m helping her so people would believe in this guy again that I’m impersonating,” Ethan chuckled and I see Lili turning around. She is holding her long brown hair on ponytail she smiles to me and I greeted her. She had bright blue eyes that seemed kind.
“Alright but why wouldn’t you all come to my place for a visit? Dad’s not home if you’re worried,” Lili glances at Ethan with mischievous smirk. “S-sure,” Ethan said quietly and smiled slyly.
POV Jack
He told me to come here and I did as I was told. The kingdom of Corona is right in front of my eyes. Everything is so warm, people are enjoying their lives. Oh, how little can they guess that I’m right here.
Soon everything will be frozen and fears will consume their souls. Then he can come and feed on their misery, Pitch.
There’s just one little thing to handle before freezing the ground. As I landed down on this branch in the woods across the city I saw something interesting. I could feel the powers of winter being used and how someone else called the wind.
They must be here.
She left me, she abandoned me. It’s now my time to revenge her all the pain that I went through because of her. Elsa, that lousy Protector of the Guardians. I will make her suffer and destroy all the things that are dear to her. Starting with the kids that are with her.
I flew to the city and then I started my search. It was quite easy since I can sense the disgusting pureness of that Protector. She’s like a beacon with that moon like shine of hers.
From rooftop I jumped to another and kept watching down at them. They were walking and following some girl that I don’t know. Then I noticed how the rooftops ended little further away and they would be away from the alley soon. Quickly I flew there and kneeled down, waiting for them to come out.
First one out on the open was the girl which I haven’t seen before. She was chatting to that boy, Ethan. Third to come out was Aleah, the princess from the kingdom where I saw her last time. I clenched my staff in my hands and kept quiet. Soon I would see my prey, after dealing with her I would destroy all the rest. They’re the easy targets.
Then she came out and I quickly flew down behind of them. They stopped when they heard me landing down. The Protector was the first one to turn around. Then the kids.
“Time to end your days,” I shouted and used my wind to blow the kids down on the ground.
“Jack,” the Protector whispered. “Let me help you, this isn’t you,” she said quietly.
“Shut up!” I yelled and I swift my staff in front of me. Tens of ice spikes flew towards her but she made them shatter. I notice how the oldest kid, Ethan, jumps up and tries to attack against me with his useless powers. I blocked him quickly and then I buried them all inside snow. All except the Protector.
“You want me to die?” She asks and walks towards me.
I laughed, “Yeah. You’re nothing more than a bitter memory.” I hissed and I see her crying.
“Nice to see that you’re afraid,” I grinned deviously. She shakes her head, “But I’m not scared of you.”
I stare at her. She claims that she is not scared? How could that be?
“You will be soon enough!” I roared as I fly up in the air. A storm started to appear and a cold wind was blowing. Buildings around us started to freeze.
“Stop this Jack! This isn’t you!” The Protector begged.
“Never! If this makes you scared, then I’ll never end it!” I spoke to her loudly.
“Jack! You leave me no other choice if you try to hurt the people of Corona!” She cried.
She stomped the ground and I laughed to her stupid actions. She thinks that she can beat me?
Suddenly a giant snowman appeared, it seems vicious and it’s reaching it’s hand towards me. “Get him,” the Protector ordered the snowman and I tried to fly from it’s reach but soon I felt it grabbing a hold from me.
It brought me in front of the Protector who just melted the snow piles and let out the kids who were now gasping for air. “See what you did Jack! You hurt them. I’m sorry that I have to do this to you,” she said gently as she walks to me. I feel how I’m being trapped by icy vines that grow around me.
“You think that some talk will change anything,” I laughed bitterly and glare at her. “The whole world needs to be drowned in the misery that I felt! You need to be gone or the pain wont ever go away,” I shouted to her as she leaned forward.
“Just teach him a lesson already!” Ethan groaned but the Protector didn’t listen. She placed her hand on my cheek and I turned my head away from her.
“I.. I’m so sorry, just try to hold on,” she whispered as she placed her hand on my chest. I turn myself to look at her. Her eyes are sad when I feel coldness growing on my chest. It makes me feel numb and soon I feel sharp pain.
I shouted as I felt my heart being like it’s stung. “STOP!” I yelled as the pain grew and made my breathing uneasy.
“Ssshh,” the Protector hushed and pressed her lips against mine. My screams got muffled and the only sense I got left was my taste. I tasted the salty tears of hers as she kissed me.
I felt so cold, my whole body started to shiver. She parted from the kiss to have some air. “I-it’s s-so cold,” I stuttered and then I open my eyes which I closed before.
“E-Elsa, h-how? W-why is it so c-cold?” I asked from her. She is sobbing and holding her hand in front of her mouth.
I see how a girl runs to her and takes her hand. “Did my plan work?” The girl asks from Elsa. I look behind them and I see someone familiar, “W-whoa.. E-Ethan. Why are y-you d-dressed up like m-meh?” I chuckled.
“That’s Jack,” Ethan stated .
I tried to move but I felt like I’m trapped in something. I look down and I see some icy vines twirling around me. I look at Elsa and mouthed her ‘please’.
Elsa smiles faintly and suddenly the vine disappears. I fell to ground on my knees and I rub my body and hands. Then I see Elsa kneeling down and I look at her. “Y-you’re r-really in h-here?” I asked and touched her face.
“Yes Jack. This is me,” Elsa whispers and wraps her arms around me. Her embrace felt warm and I hug her back. “I m-missed you s-so m-much,” I said to her quietly.
“I know.. I know.. I love you so much,” Elsa cried and hugged me tighter. My whole body is shivering.
“W-what’s h-happening to m-me?” I asked.
“My cousin Aleah here had a plan. Elsa needed to freeze your heart and when you’re an ice cube your wife, Elsa, will thaw you and tada – Jack Frost is back. OF course I needed to be you so we could make some people believing in you again,” Ethan kneeled down and smiles to me. “Nice to have you back and sorry that I stopped believing in you,” Ethan patted my shoulder.
I nodded my head to him and then I look back at Elsa. I brush her cheek with my shaking hand and then she laughed a bit sadly.
“We should get that guy inside and you all have some explaining to do,” the brown haired girl spoke. “That’s Lili, my fiancée. You’ll like her when you get to know her,” Ethan laughed to me quietly as he helped me up.
Both Elsa and Ethan were giving me support while we were going to Lili’s home. I got more tired with my every step. It was exhausting.
Lili brought me into a small guestroom. She told Aleah and Ethan to come with her and give us a moment. I look at Elsa who is standing at the window and looking outside.
When we were left alone I cleared my throat. “S-so you r-remember me?” I smiled to her and she comes to me. She sits on the bed and kisses my forehead.
“I do remember you. This is why this is so painful, to look at you suffer again,” she whispers and I pull her against me. Her body feels like burning flames against my cold skin.
“Y-you’re d-doing this to s-save m-me. D-don’t w-worry,” I said and held her close to me.
“You’re shivering so much Jack,” she cried and I hushed her. My eyelids felt heavy and I was going in and out from consciousness.
“I.. I.. I need a.. n-nap,” I whispered and my world was getting blurrier every second. I felt her embrace and heard her singing silently.
Her singing guided me to sleep.
