POV Jack

They called for a Guardian meeting again, we’ve had these every week for years. The Guardians are worried about the increasing amount of nightmares and they’re dragging me along. Before the fun was the solution but what happens when fun turns into dullness?

A duty, that is all that I am doing now. Days keep changing after passing hours. Days turn into months, months turn into years and years into decades. Decades without her, without the person who was my light and showed me the path. All I have is a memory which is fading. I am scared that I will forget her like I have forgotten things before. The memory of her which is precious and I want to hold on.

I am looking at the locket which I gave her once, I open it up and the melody starts to play. I sigh, a thousand years. “I want to follow you, wherever you are,” I said when closing the locket. “Find someone else Manny.. I haven’t felt having fun in a long time,” I said to the moon. A cloud covered it and I look away while pulling my hood over my head.

I can’t afford the yetis coming and kidnapping me again because I am late. I just don’t want to come up with an excuse again, going to the meeting would make things a lot easier. I freeze a puddle and I look at my reflection, “Good. At least it is hidden.”

The thing is that I don’t want them to worry about me. I just need to figure out things by myself first, why my hair is turning to black. I called the wind which helped me to travel to North Pole fast. Everyone was waiting already.

“Finally you decided to show up mate, I was thinking that you’re down under,” Bunny teased me and I gave him an angry glare. “Why would I go to Australia?” I sighed. “Calm down you two!” Toothiana flew between us just before I would actually manage to freeze bunny’s tail.

“We have actual problems to deal with,” North said loudly and pointed at the gap in the roof. Moon was shining down and I felt disgusted by it. Never it has decided to speak with me freely. “Manny told me that Pitch is going to do something horrible soon. There is only one solution to our problems,” North said and looked at me.

“Not me,” I said and jumped to sit on a desk. “Is there something wrong Jack?” North glared at me. “Can we trust on you?” North said and my eyes widened. “What do you mean by trusting me?” I shouted and I felt actually hurt. “There has been something going on with you. Children are not having fun Jack, they are afraid,” North whispered and my heart beat fast.

“That is not all!” Bunny gasped. Seriously I will freeze the fluffy tail soon! “You’re not controlling the weather like before, the winters are too short or long.. blizzards and other awful phenomena’s are happening often,” Bunny poked my chest and stared at me.

I slammed my staff to ground and it froze, everyone flew back because of the wind and the slippery ice. “JACK!” Toothiana gasped and pointed at my head. I touch it and I notice that my hoodie’s hood has dropped down.

“I.. I can explain,” I said while backing up. My back touched the wall and they all approached me. “Um.. on second thought I can’t explain?” I laughed nervously. “Jack, this is serious,” Toothiana whispered and touched my hair.

“What is going on?” I slammed Tooth’s hand away. North placed his enormous hand on my shoulder and guided me towards the big earth globe. “Show it Manny,” North looked up.

Soon the bright lights around the globe started to turn off. “Huh?” I gulped. North looked at me sadly, “Jack. These are the lights of the children who believe in you still. As you can see, during the years two thirds have turned off.” Then he touched my chest, “How is your core Jack? They are losing their believe. You know that when you joined the Guardians the consequences of that might not be easy. You remember what happened to Bunny?”

I glance at Bunny and I remember how he became a tiny bunny. “I will turn into a rabbit?” I sighed and didn’t feel too interested. North shook his head, “I don’t know what will happen to you. I got old and tired, Toothiana lost her ability to fly. Who knows what happens to you?”

They all look at me with pitiful looks. “You need to give the kids their fun!” Toothiana said quickly. I shook my head, “I will when I feel like it.”

Tooth gulped and covered her mouth. “There is one way mate,” Bunnymund said. “Well tell me long-ears?” I groaned and he seemed angry while approaching me. Tooth stopped him. “The Maiden of the Moon!” Tooth gasped.

“The what?” I sighed. “She is a legend, a protector of the Guardians who Manny created. She has been around forever,” North said and smiled. I rolled my eyes and spread my arms, “How could she possibly help me out here?”

“Only Manny and she knows,” Toothiana nodded. “Stop this nonsense,” I snapped and pushed everyone aside. “Have you even seen this fairy tale character?” I said sarcastically. “She exists in dreams,” Toothiana nodded.

“But you haven’t seen her?” I asked and Toothiana shook her head. “See!” I shouted angrily and I started to walk away. “Where is Sandy anyway?” I yelled and turned around. He was my closest friend among them all.

“He is searching after her,” North said and smiled. “Where and why?” I asked and they all glanced at each other. “She can be seen in dreams sometimes. Sandy is trying to look for her since you need help,” Toothiana whispered.

In dreams? My heart is racing. She appears on dreams, why do I get this feeling right now. “Uh.. who cares,” I sighed and flew off.

I fly to Arendelle, I would stay the night there and go to see my relatives who don’t know being my descendants. They are nice kids from the current ruler but soon they will forget me too. Annoying really.

I am laying on the castle’s rooftop and looking at the stars. Falling asleep is getting me nervous and I am trying to stay awake. Last time when I was so scared of sleeping was when I was a child who stayed in hospitals alone for long time periods.

I would have died from depression and misery in young age but there was something. Something that I became obsessed about. I wonder if she was the Maiden of the Moon who Tooth and Sandy believe existing in dreams? I mean.. when I was losing hope she came to my dreams and told me that everything would be alright. How I would find a purpose in life in some way, how I should be brave and kind, joyful. How I would be aid to some others in my future.

Me and the woman who spoke to me in my dreams had chats sometimes. She was warm hearted and caring, I couldn’t see her ever, just her silhouette. I thought her as my imaginary friend, last time when I could see her was day before I had my 18th birthday. She told me that we couldn’t meet this way anymore since I was about to be adult, how we could meet some other time.

Maybe the time is now, when I am a Guardian. Maybe she can help me like back then? I touch my hair and my eyes are closing slowly.

(Dream) Cold wind is reaching right to my spine, it is making the snow on the ground twirl up in snowy spirals and the sky is dark. I see how the summer has turn into an ice age. The ice keeps spreading and it is covering the cities. People are crying and panicking. A loud thunderstorm with blue lightning appears.

“Time to have some fun,” I heard an evil laughter. I am dreaming about myself but somehow I seem different. I am looking at myself, floating in the air, laughing like life is worthless. My hair has turned whole black, my eyes seem blank and now the black haired me is flying towards the ground. The road freezes and icy spikes are pointed upwards. Cars are sliding on the roads and their wheels are exploding because of the spikes. People are crying, being scared.

I see how now I am shooting down blue lightning and a strong wind is blowing houses up. The sight is scaring me, is that really me? Without pity I am destroying everything, causing suffering. My heart is now aching and I scream. I can’t get a sound out and I try to scream harder. (/dream)

Suddenly I woke up on the rooftop. My whole body was covered in sweat and my heart is pounding. Quickly I went to a guest room inside the castle and I look at my reflection from a mirror. The black has widened in my hair. “No.. It was just a dream, it can’t happen for real,” I whispered and I touched my hair.

I froze the mirror and the frost covered it. I couldn’t look at myself, the sight made me feel sick inside. I fell to ground on my knees, desperation was filling me. “I don’t want that,” I cried. I wiped my face on my sleeve and I look outside towards the moon. “Manny.. can she help me? I haven’t seen her over hundred years but.. I need the help of our protector, I don’t want to hurt people!” I yelled and run to window. I jumped outside and flew up.

“MANNY! Let me see her, the Maiden of the Moon. She promised to meet me one day again, so please.. let her help me if she is real?” I pleaded but the Man in the Moon didn’t say a thing. I landed down and sat on the ground. I kept waiting for some sort of respond.

I smile sadly when the sun rises, “So.. it is just me alone against my darkening core?” I sigh, “So now Manny.. “ I close my eyes, “I will refuse my duties as a guardian. I don’t need you or the others. You refuse to speak with me so I refuse to work for you.”

I open my eyes, “I will do this by myself. I won’t sleep, I won’t go near to people. So, this is the goodbyes then?” Now the Moon had left and I was left alone staring at the rising sun. I flew up and my journey was now towards South Pole. The place, where I would be alone, without people so close that they would get hurt.

The words from the past were ringing in my ears. About the death of me from when I was a child. The nightmares that haunted me, made me feel scared. She made them go away by coming to my dreams. She taught me to accept myself and to create something. Now when I need her, she is not here. Like in my childhood, now it is time to stop dreaming. Being awake might save everyone this time.'

Jack is having nightmares and children are losing faith in him. Will he find his core again? Will the Maiden of the Moon come to  help him? O_O
