Bad Story :>
Overpowered characters, cliche backstory, short ending :>
I'm too lazy to fix anything, and I threw in some art.
The night was clear and crisp; the clearing was simple grass dotted with moonlight illuminated hues cast by purple, blue and yellow wildflowers cascading across the floor. The stars above were clear and bright as ever, blinking like eyes. A silent newleaf breeze swept peacefully and ruffled the grass slight, sending the loose green fragments airborne, met only by the shedding grey hairs which joined in the current. Everything was perfect and visible despite the blanket of jet black that encroached the sky when the sun was drawn back behind the horizon.
But there was another more sinister presence besides the ever watching balls of light dotting the canvas of a scene that made one feel as if they were always being watched...
It was the inky darkness far different from the cool landscape folding out in front of it; a few foxlengths away from this safe haven were twisted and gnarled trees that crept over each other like lurking figures. Imagine such; staring into nothingness, not knowing what was beyond, the unknown burning your skin and tempting you forwards. Information was withheld, it was as if all your senses would stop working upon it.
And yet, there was life.
The mew of a new life split the shade that not even a singing cricket could break. Come the kit's eruption of existence followed bickering, not the hostile kind though... more sad and distraught than anything.
Near an ear-tip away from the border of vast unknown stood a monotone she-cat who's frame was barely noticeable besides the trickle of white light that gave her form to the trained gaze. Her own set of eyes was nothing to fuss over, plain faded moss colored and riveted with ugly scars. Inside the intimidating forest of pitch black emerged another figure, who squinted at the new found source of sight with startling ginger eyes.
"You're here" the female greeted from the starry side, careful not to edge a paw into the murky depths. Under her front paws was a trembling bundle of dusty grey fur.
"Yes, and I see the impossible happened." He added gloomily. "How can they be born in a place where all cats are dead?"
"Maybe we aren't really dead..." She barely whispered, facing the pale brown tom with a sigh, "but that can't matter much now, there's a life in our paws."
"Your paws." He corrected.
"Don't use fancy corrections with me, Duskfall." She answered with a glimmer of humor on her face, "and it can very well be both of our paws."
"A kit can't grow up with the mange pelts I'm stuck with. They haven't done anything wrong to deserve this place..."
"MouseBrain! Let's take you to StarClan, let's beat the dung out of the leaders who say you can't come, they don't understand the situation!" She pleaded with raised hackles. "Most are fair, surely they'd understand! I've spoken to Yellowfang in CAT before, that ancient should at least sympathize with us!" It's not as if the warrior code says-"
Duskfall silenced her with a prompt flick of his tail, blinking slowly and sitting. The hard ground below him made no noise as he did, there was no noise from his side of the world. "I can't go back.."
"And why not?" The she-cat prompted with as sassy of a look she could, bending down to lick her chest fur.
"I can't face her again. Not again." He urged, begging with a silence dancing through his entire facial expression. "I'm not the strong willed cat you deserve.. I'm sorry.."
"We'll be done being sorry!" She snapped with a curled lip and flattening her ears. Lunging forwards with claws outstretched, successfully snagging the surprised warrior across the shoulder and dragging him forwards a painful mouselength. It was quite obvious he hadn't been ready for the surge of strength, for it sent him toppling over and landing with a thump next to the newborn. Now all three stood (or laid down regaining their senses) on the StarClan side of the territory.
For but a brief moment.
With what seemed like a blinding flash of white, a burly white she-cat had sped into the clearing and had Duskfall pinned by yet again; his bedraggled shoulders.
"Trying to escape?" The cat hissed with a still, emotionless tone.
"N-no, Froststar! I-i brought him here!" Shadedmeadow insisted, and bounding forwards to meet her whisker to whisker.
"Likely story" she mused, blue eyes narrowed dangerously, "We do not let Dark Forest cats into this pure clan. It is the form of all perfection, the last resting place for the GOOD." Froststar added bitterly, digging her claws into his back. Duskfall didn't resist, he just stared with a helpless atmosphere, fighting back wouldn't help his case. "Do you want to know what this excuse for a warrior has done?" the snowy colored leader snarled, not waiting for a response. She lashed her tail and flicked an ear for Shadedmeadow to come closer.
Reluctantly, knowing her fate was now sealed, she padded over to the tyrannical StarClan cat steeled herself, "I already know what he has done, you do as well. But he has changed."
"An evil figure cannot change!" Froststar growled, bending down as the queen watched with frozen horror, for a split second it seemed like the brown tuxedo tom might lash out at this movement, but alas, the leader clamped her jaws around the weak spot on his throat.
In moments, Duskfall had disappeared, a spirit dissolved with a second death.
"And we do not curse our future generations to a life with the dead!" She spat, waving a talon-like claw at the kit, it too disappeared.
The dark grey queen watched in simple horror, her two loved ones lost in a matter of moments, she had been no help to stop. She was powerless against the law. But more so, the enforcer.
"Lastly" Froststar mused, "I do not tolerate traitors in MY Clan."
With a swift spin, she lunged at Shadedmeadow, but rather than killing her, touched noses firmly with the cat; for an awkward pause, the stars all lit up around them. Duskfall had disappeared to rejoin her kin in a flash of silvery light.
All was enfolding nicely for this new ruler of the afterlife.
