Chapter 40: Levy...Don't Go

Levy...Don't Go

"Ya can fix her, right?" Gajeel looked at me as he tightened his hold on Levy. I sucked in a breath as I stared at my best friend. She was barely breathing now.

"Okay, okay." I said to myself as I touched my necklace. I called for one of my daggers and clenched it tightly in my hand. "Gajeel, I need you to hold her still, you understand?" He grunted out a yes.

"I'm sorry, Levs." I whispered to her.

I took my dagger and leaned in closer to her. I gripped her shirt and touched the tip of my dagger to her stomach. I took a deep breath and cut into the wound. Levy screamed and bucked her body.

Gajeel held her tighter and murmured something in her ear. "Hold her still." I told him as I cut deeper. She screamed again but Gajeel held her steady. I moved my hair out of my face and leaned in. I put my mouth on her horrible wound and sucked.

Hot blood filled my mouth along with the poison. I turned my head and spit. I did this a couple more times, once I was finished, I sat up, and wiped my mouth.

"There." I said as I studied the wound. The swelling had gone down some but not by much. At least the poison was out of her system. But, I still didn't know how much of it had entered her body before I could remove it.

"I think I got it all." Gajeel gave me a look, "Ya think or ya know?" I glanced at him and looked at Levs. Her breathing had become more normal and she wasn't sweating as hard now.

"I know." I muttered.

Just as I said this Levy made a choking sound and coughed. Blood flew out of her mouth and landed on the ground.

"Freya?" Natsu said with wide eyes.

"No, no, no! What happened?" I went back to Levy and touched her forehead. She was burning up again and she was gasping for breath. "Oh, Levs, what now?" I mumbled to myself as I checked the wound on her stomach.

She still had those blue veins tracking up her stomach, but I knew they wouldn't have healed just like that. The wound was still red and rotten but the swelling had already gone down. "Freya, what's happenin?" Gajeel asked. Worry was creeping into his voice.

I ran my fingers through my hair and thought. What could it be? What else could do this to you, Levs? I thought about using my Healing Magic, but I was worried that that might not help. It could even make it worse if I was not careful. I was about to try it when it hit me. I jerked my head up in shock.

"I know what it is!" I shouted. I turned to Natsu and narrowed my eyes at him. "Ready to get fired up?"

His eyes glistened, "Always."

I stood up, "Gajeel, we will be back."

With Natsu by my side I started to head back to where the Spider's Den was...and the body of which we needed. "Where the hell are ya goin?" Gajeel yelled at us. I began to run and I yelled back at him over my shoulder.

"To save, Levs!"

Natsu and I ran to the Spider's Den and we entered the place that I really didn't want to see again. My eyes instantly landed on the spider's body and I ran over to it.

"Natsu!" I called for him as I slid on my knees next to the spider. I grabbed the thing's tail and looked at the stinger. I took my dagger and cut it off. "What do you need me to do?" Natsu asked.

Please let me be right...

I brought the stinger up and told him to burn it. Without hesitating he lit his hand on fire and threw a small flickering flame at it. The stinger instantly caught on fire. As I watched with my heart in my throat as it cracked open.

A small white bead fell from the cracked stinger and into my outstretched hand. I narrowed my eyes at it and let out a breath.

It had worked.

I leaped up and threw the stinger to the side. "Come on, Natsu! We have to hurry!" I told him as I ran back to where Gajeel and Levy were. "Wait! Fey, what is that?!" Natsu yelled from behind me.

I clutched the fragile bead in my hand tighter as I answered, "It's the cure!"

"How do you know?"

"Because, I've read about these spiders before." I told him as I ran faster. Natsu soon caught up to me and we ran side by side. "Freya, do you think this is the creature the villagers were talking about?"

I glanced at him, "I think so, Natsu. There called Scorpion Spiders and they are very rare and very dangerous." I told him as we rounded a corner.

We were getting closer.

Hold on, Levs! Just a little longer! We're coming!

When Natsu and I arrived I stopped dead in my tracks. Natsu skidded to a halt beside me and let out a shocked breath.

Gajeel was rocking Levy back and forth...and his body was shaking. "Gajeel...?" My voice cracked and tears were already forming in my eyes. Because...Levy...Levs wasn't moving.

I didn't even hear her breathing anymore. Gajeel lifted his head but didn't take his eyes off the girl in his arms. "Freya...she-she's not breathing..." Gajeel's voice was no more than a whisper.

I shook my head in disbelief. I rushed forward and fell to my knees before her. I opened the palm of my hand and reached to open Levy's mouth.

I opened her mouth gently and placed the little white bead inside her mouth. I squeezed the little bead between my fingers and a few small drops dripped out onto her tongue.

"Come on, Levy. Come on."

Nothing.

She never moved or took a breath. As I stared at her unmoving body I felt something inside me break. Perhaps it was my heart? I felt cold inside. I felt dead inside.

I felt empty.

I heard Natsu fall to his knees behind me and I heard him let out a choked sound. Gajeel still held Levy close to him and he was so still...like Levy was. Without a sound I touched foreheads with Levy and closed my eyes.

No, Levs...Don't go...

I'm here...Natsu's here...Gajeel's here...

He's waiting for you...

He's waiting for you to open up those eyes of yours, Levs...

We're all waiting.

The Guild's not gonna be the same without you Levy.

Who's gonna read Lucy's novel first?

Who's gonna help us idiots decipher a simple spell?

Who's gonna help me keep the boys from bringing down the whole Guild down or stop them from killing themselves?

Levs...who's gonna be my best friend?

Who am I gonna tell all my secrets too?

Who's supposed to hold me when I cry?

Who's gonna hold you when you cry?

Who's going to take care of Gajeel?

Levs, he needs you...

I need you...

We all need you...

"So, please, Levy, don't go."

"Okay."

The soft voice seemed to echo through my mind. I slowly lifted my head and came face to face with a pair of hazel eyes.

"Levy?" I gasped out.

She smiled weakly at me.

"Hey...Fey-chan."

I let out a small happy laugh but before I could hug her. Gajeel hugged her tight and Levy's face turned red when she realized who's arms she was in.

"Shrimp! Ya scared the hell outta me! Don't do that!" Gajeel said angrily at her. He said this even when he hugged her to his chest and closed his eyes in relief.

Levy looked up at him and smiled softly, "Okay, I promise." She reached up and hugged him. Tears formed in my eyes and they fell. Even if Gajeel didn't realize it yet, he loved her. I smiled and turned to Natsu. He was looking at me with shining eyes.

Even if I don't even realize it yet...or him.
