Chapter 36: Temple & Cave

Temple and Cave

"This place is huge! Natsu! I want to live here!" Happy yelled excitedly as he soared ahead of us. Natsu's eyes were wide and his mouth was open in amazement. "That's a great idea Happy!" He said as he smiled.

I laughed along with Wendy at the two of them. They were both crazy when they were together. "But I don't know, Happy. Then we would never get to see our friends." Natsu continued as he began to walk after Happy.

Happy paused in the air and looked back at me. "Freya can live with us." I choked on a laugh, "Nope. Can't do that, Haps."

"Why not?" Happy whined as he flew closer to me. I glanced over at Natsu who was now looking at me too.

I gulped and looked away. "Because...Happy." I answered simply. Before Happy said anything I said to him. "If you two moved then I would be sad. So you two can't ever move too far away from me, okay?"

Happy smiled brightly and nodded his head, "Okay, Freya!" With a flap of his white wings he flew closer to the Temple. I glanced at Natsu and I could feel my face getting hot from his stare. "W-what?" I stuttered.

Natsu shrugged his shoulders as he turned around, "Nothin." I ran a hand through my hair as I followed after him. Perhaps I shouldn't have said anything. We all stopped when we arrived at the front of the Temple's doors.

The two wooden doors were so high up that I had to crane my head up to see all of it. "Alright everyone. This is the plan. We are all going to stick together and keep an eye out for the creature and each other. Understood?" Erza said in her leader voice. We all nodded our heads.

I took a deep breath as Erza with the help of the boys pushed open one of the big doors. With a loud groan the door slowly opened. Lucy peaked inside and her eyes got as wide as saucers. "Nope." She said popping the 'p'. "I can't go in there! This place has death written all over it!" I rolled my eyes at her statement.

"Come on, Luce, where's your sense of adventure?" Natsu said with a big grin as he stepped inside the Temple. "My sense of adventure withers away every time I go out on a mission with you." Lucy said with a shudder.

I once again rolled my eyes. "The best missions are the ones Natsu picks." I muttered to myself as I stalked into the Temple. A small gasp escaped us all as we got our first look inside the Temple. My eyes felt like they were going to pop out of my skull.

This place...was awesome.

Everything inside the place looked golden. Everything, the walls, the floor, the ceiling, it all gleamed gold. Natsu rubbed his hands together and he had a glint in his eyes. His eyes narrowed on a beautiful golden vase and he tiptoed over to it.

Just as he was about to snatch it Erza appeared behind him with her eyes glowing red.

"Natsu..."

"Aye!"

My laugh echoed all around us.

All of us had been walking through the Temple for some hours now. I didn't know how long we'd all been here but I knew it had to be for a long time. Still, we hadn't found anything.

An irritated sigh left me as I dragged my feet forward. "Oi, Happy, can you see anything?" I asked him since he was flying above us, he could see more than we could. "No. Nothing yet." I groaned and continued dragging my feet forward.

From behind me, Lucy let out a heavy sigh. "I give up!" She announced as she leaned up against the wall. There was a loud cracking sound and Lucy screamed.

We all whipped around just in time to see Lucy fall through a big crack in the wall.

"Lucy!" I screamed as I ran toward her.

"Lu-chan!" Levy screamed with me as she too ran to her.

Levy reached the wall first and she reached her hand through to try and catch Lucy.

"Levy, NO!" Just as I said this, with a surprised scream, she also fell through. "Shrimp!" Gajeel called out as he hurried over to the wall.

I placed a hand on the wall and leaned in. "Levy! Lucy!" I screamed. My scream echoed off the walls but there was nothing coming back.

Levy and Lucy never answered me.

Without a word Gajeel, along with Pantherlily, jumped down after them. "Gajeel!" Erza yelled. I took a breath and jumped too. I heard Natsu yell my name but I didn't look back. Then I was just falling...falling...falling...The breath was knocked out of me when I hit the ground on my back.

I gasped for air as I sat up. I blinked against the sudden darkness. "Levy...?" I whispered as I stood up. I took a blind step forward with my hands outstretched in front of me. "Gajeel?"

I heard another yell from above me then I heard a loud thump from behind me. I turned around with my hands still outstretched. "Who's that?"

"Fey?"

"Natsu?" I said as I took a hesitant step forward.

"Yay, I'm here." I heard him say from somewhere in the darkness. I took another step forward and my hands touched something. There was suddenly light and I shut my eyes tight against the sudden flare.

When I reopened my eyes I came face to face with Natsu. Then I realized that my hands were on his chest. I sucked in a sharp breath as I leaped away from him. "W-where are the others?" No sooner had I asked this that Gray came tumbling down.

He landed with a grunt and looked up at us. "Hey, Fire Head, at least your good for something." Gray was referring to how Natsu had lit his fingers on fire so we could see. "Don't make me burn you." Natsu said with a glint in his eyes.

I turned away from them to hide my burning face. My hands were tingling from touching his warm and hard chest.

A hand landed on my shoulder and I almost slapped Gajeel right in the face. "Oi! Watch it!" He said as he caught my hand. "It's me." I let out a breath, "Don't do that, Gajeel! You scared me half to death."

Gajeel 'tched' and looked to his side, "Found Shrimp and Bunny Girl. There up ahead." With that he turned around and walked off into the darkness.

I turned back to look at the two boys who were now in each other's faces. "Boys! Come on now don't fight. Your gonna bring the whole Temple down!"

********************************

"Oh...this is...beautiful." I breathed out. We had found ourselves in an underground cave. The cave was magnificent. Up above us the cave's ceiling was glowing like it had diamonds imbedded in it. Which, I wondered, if they did.

To the left of us was a small waterfall that dripped clean water. It was a wide clearing that broke off into another part of the cave. There were multiple passageways all around us. If we weren't careful then we could all get lost.

My eyes landed on Levy and I broke off into a run toward her with my arms outstretched. "Levy!" I called to her as she turned to me. She laughed as I put my arms around her. "I'm so happy your safe." I told her as I hugged her tight.

Levy hugged me back and said that she was okay. "Fey-chan, it's amazing, isn't it?" She said as she let go of me. I tilted my head up to the glistening ceiling and nodded my head in wonder. "It sure is, Levs."

"Alright, is everyone here?" Erza called out to us all. Once we had all called out to her she nodded in approval. "This must be where the creature is hiding."

"Fro thinks so too!" Fro agreed happily. I smiled down at the green cat and Fro waved at me shyly.

"What exactly do you think we are dealing with here?" Sting asked as he crossed his arms. Rogue was studying the cave when he supplied, "Maybe it's a bat."

"A bat?" Wendy asked timidly.

Rogue nodded, "Bats live in caves and the villagers said that they never saw it. What if the bat came from above in the cover of night? Then nobody would be able to see it."

Sting smiled and gave his friend a thumbs up, "Nice job, Rouge." Rouge just blinked. "I don't care what it is. I almost died! I want to leave!" Lucy whined as she hugged herself. "I'm sure we'll be fine." Wendy told her with a smile.

Just as we were about to pick a passageway the cave gave a thundering shake. I lost my balance and fell to my knees. I heard my friends start yelling and I looked up. Erza, Gray, Wendy, and Lucy were running toward a passageway.

Sting and Rogue, along with their Exceeds, were running to a near by passageway. I could also see Gajeel and Levy make a break to yet another passageway. I had no idea where our Exceeds were and I couldn't see Natsu either. This was not good. We were all going to get separated.

Wendy looked behind her and shouted out my name, then she pointed up.

I looked to where she was pointing and I froze. I braced myself as some huge rocks from the ceiling broke off.

The rocks were coming straight for us.
