Chapter 27: Thunder and Lightning
Thunder and Lightning
I shot forward. Straight for Gajeel. He was a pain to deal with at the moment. I had to get rid of him if I ever wanted to fight Laxus with any unwanted distractions. I would have to deal with Natsu later. Gajeel didn't see me coming. I kicked off the ground and did a spinning kick to the back of his head.
He stumbled forward and spun toward me with his iron arm already aiming for me. I did a back flip and avoided the blow. I landed on my hand and pushed off the ground. I straightened my leg and slammed my foot into his chest. He didn't move but instead threw a series of punches at me.
I dodged each blow with ease. Gajeel was strong but he wasn't as fast. I went low and punched him in an uppercut strike under his jaw. Gajeel's head snapped back just as fire shot between us. I glanced to my left to see Natsu, who's body was completely engulfed in flames.
Laxus and him were facing off against one another. Laxus didn't have a scratch on him while Natsu looked like he had taken a massive beating.
Something inside me flared to life. Something that I had never felt before. It was like I needed to be beside him. To help him. I didn't like this new feeling. I was snapped out of my thoughts when Gajeel's iron fist came an inch away from hitting me in the face.
I leaned back just in time and shot up straight. I kicked off the ground and so did Gajeel. Lightning flashed across the sky and thunder boomed all around us. Laxus's doing, no doubt. Gajeel and I locked eyes with each other in midair. Gajeel flew toward me and I to him. We both clashed together in the air.
I gripped the collar of his shirt and balled up my fist. I struck and hit him in the face. Gajeel countered by bringing his foot up and turning it into iron. He kicked out and hit me in the stomach. I made a choking sound and flew away from him. As we began to both fall back to earth I grimaced and shook my hand.
Punching him was a no go.
Damn iron.
Now I knew why Natsu called him Metal Face.
Gajeel laughed and sent a flurry of iron punches. I crossed my arms in front of myself to block them. Each time they hit my arms I gritted my teeth to stop from crying out. I hated iron. Once he had stopped I flew back to him. I roundhouse kicked him in the head and grabbed onto the front of his shirt again.
We began to fall faster. This was going to hurt. But I had no other choice. I balled up both my fists and punched him again and again. Over and over I landed a blow. His nose started to bleed and his eye became swollen. I didn't stop though. Gajeel tried to block but I punched him in the shoulder and I heard a soft crack. I had dislocated his shoulder blade.
He gritted his teeth and brought up his other arm. I grabbed his arm and twisted it in front of him. He growled and kicked me in the back. I cried out and let go of my hold on him. The ground was coming at us fast. I took a breath and kicked off of him. My kick made Gajeel fall to the ground faster.
Before the Iron Dragon Slayer could right himself, it was already too late. With a loud crash he hit the ground on his back. Dust and grit flew in all directions. I landed on my feet moments after. I landed only a few feet away from him. I could already make out his shadow as he began to stand up.
I wasn't going to have that.
I ran over to him and with an anger cry, I kicked him in the chest. My kick made him fall again and I landed on top of him. With a growl I lifted my bloody fist up. I brought my fist down and stopped inches away from delivering my blow when I heard a gasp from the crowd. My eyes darted to the crowd and my eyes searched the many faces. My eyes stopped when they landed on wild blue hair.
Levy...
I furrowed my brows as I cocked my head at her. She had her hands on her mouth and she was watching me with glistening eyes. I blinked and glanced down at the unconscious Dragon Slayer. I hadn't even realized that he was out. I took a calming breath and stood up.
I flexed my fingers and noticed that four of my ten digits were broken. Damn iron. I looked over at Levy then back to Gajeel.
"She just saved you." I told him softly.
I looked over at Natsu and Laxus who were exchanging blows. I flexed my fingers and narrowed my eyes as I stepped over Gajeel. I took a breath as I made my way over to the other two Dragon Slayers. Thunder boomed and lightning lit up the sky as the two Dragon Slayers exchanged blows.
I smiled, this was going to be fun.
I stalked forward just as Laxus sent a bolt of lightning at Natsu. The Fire Dragon Slayer dodged the worst of it, but a single bolt caught him in the shoulder. He was sent flying back and he landed hard on the ground. I paused and watched him with my heart in my throat. Natsu rolled over to his side. I let out a breath. He would be okay.
If I knew him at all, he would be up in a moment. I looked at Laxus. That meant I only had a few minutes with him alone. I had to make that time count. Laxus focused his attention on me next.
"Your still here?" He said in a monotone voice as his coat flapped slightly in the wind. I chuckled darkly, "Wouldn't miss this for the world, darling."
He rolled his powerful shoulders and we faced off against one another. Lightning shot across the sky along with a blast of booming thunder. We didn't say a word and neither one of us wanted to make the first move. Whoever made the first move had very little chance of winning. We both knew this.
"You haven't once used you're Magic." Laxus said. I shrugged my shoulders, "Didn't need it." Laxus grinned a little. "Cocky, eh?"
I shook my head with a smirk, "Nope. Just being honest." We both went silent as lightning shot across the sky again, highlighting our faces. In the end, I was the one who made the first move.
I raced toward him when lightning lit up the sky again. I only had one moment of darkness when the lightning went away. That was my perfect time to strike. Just as the lightning disappeared and there was a second of complete darkness, I struck. Thunder boomed as I brought up my leg and kneed him in the stomach. He doubled over but came back with a fist crackling with lightning.
I leaned away and the lightning was so close to me that it burned my cheek. I leaped away and came back swinging. Laxus caught my fist in his hand. I was breathing heavily while he looked completely relaxed.
It pissed me off.
I guess the fight I just had with Gajeel tired me more than I had thought. I wrenched my hand away from him and went low. I swept my foot under him but he jumped out of the way.
I straightened just as he sent his golden lightning at me. I leaped out of the way and landed on my feet. I lifted my head. I never saw the hit coming. Laxus hit me across the face with his fist crackling with his lightning. My eyes widened as my head cracked to the side. Laxus wasn't finished yet.
Before I could fall he grabbed the front of my shirt and lifted me up. He hit me again this time in the stomach. I gagged and brought up both of my hands. I brought them both down onto Laxus's arm to try and break his hold on me. He didn't even flinch.
"Your never going to beat me like this." Laxus told me as he hit me again. I opened my mouth in a silent scream. "This is boring." Laxus muttered to himself as he opened up his hand.
A ball of yellow lightning began to appear in the palm of his hand. "I want to see you're Magic." He swiped his hand across my face. The lightning in his hand crackled loudly and exploded in my face.
I screamed as I flew away from him and landed hard on my back. I skidded a couple of feet away, kicking up dirt, and dust as I flew back. I gasped and blinked open my eyes. I saw little black dots swimming around in my right eye. But...I couldn't see anything out of my left eye.
I slowly brought my hand up to my face. I touched the left side of my face with a trembling hand. My skin felt burnt and when I pulled my hand away, some of my skin went with it. I stared down at my had in horror. Not quite believing what had just happened.
I could faintly hear people in the crowd gasping or cheering. Everything seemed to slow down for me when it all suddenly clicked in my slow to process mind. When I did finally understand what had just happened, I still couldn't believe it. I looked up at Laxus with a blank face.
Laxus had burnt the left side of my face off.
