Chapter 22: Trust
"Hailey? Why is she meeting with Hank?" Confusion was written all over Peter's face, but Teresa just shake her head, although she had a few ideas in her mind. However, knowing that Peter would most likely be going back to the lab to see Hank and Hailey for himself, Teresa decided to tell him one of them. "Perhaps she needed to talk to someone about her worries. Her father hasn't made any contact with her within the past few days,"
"Hailey told you that? I thought she was really secretive like you," Peter furrowed his eyebrows.
"Hailey didn't told me that. Sofia overheard that information from one of Elizabeth's other friends. They said that Elizabeth sounded pretty worried when she was telling them that," Peter let out an 'oh' to show that he understood. "How is Sofia anyways? How is she doing in the lockdown? Kids around her age aren't allowed to go out their rooms yet. It must be driving her crazy."
"She's fine with it so far, especially since she has Lily as company, but she's really curious on what's going on and keeps on asking me to tell her about everything,"
"And have you?" Peter asked.
Teresa snorted. "I would have to be insane if i did, especially with everything that has been going on," she narrowed her eyes at Peter, "and don't even think of telling her any of this too."
"I feel so offended that you think that i would do something like that," Peter exclaimed, while wearing an offended look on his face, but Teresa rolled her eyes. She knows her brother very well and knew that he wasn't actually offended and was just faking it.
"Just don't say anything to Sofia and Lily. I don't want any of the kids to freak out or there will be chaos," Teresa warned him. "But if you do try to tell any of them, even by accident, i'll make sure you'll end up in the clinic again."
Peter's eyes widened and he opened his mouth to say something, but he was interrupted by a voice behind them, "No one will be putting anyone into the clinic."
Peter smirked at Devin's words, but faltered at his next ones, "However, if it's really necessary, you can smack him with a folded newspaper."
Peter shook his head quickly as a smirk formed on Teresa's face. "You both are so mean!" He complained, leaning his body backwards slightly.
Teresa giggled quietly at his reaction, but both Peter and Devin still heard it. Peter's eyes widened at the sound and he pointed his finger at his sister. "Who are you and what have you done to Teresa?" He exclaimed, which caused Devin to look at him with a confused expression.
Teresa rolled her eyes at Peter's actions. "I have never giggled before- well, at least not in front of him anyways," Teresa explained to Devin after noticing how confused he looked, tilting her head to the dramatic brown-eyed mutant.
Devin let out an 'oh' of understanding, before they arrived at their destination. They entered the living room and saw a blonde haired mutant with large wings lying on the couch and looking quite uncomfortable doing that. "Why is Peter gaping at Teresa? Did you do something to make him really shocked?" Warren questioned after he noticed all of their presence, including Devin whom he was glaring at.
"Teresa giggled for the first time ever and i was the one to make her do that!" Peter exclaimed happily, pointing his finger at Teresa again.
She scowled and slapped his finger away. "Pointing your finger at someone is extremely rude, you know," she snapped, pointing her finger at Peter's face.
"And what was that?!" Peter pointed his finger at Teresa again, only for it to get slapped away again. "Ouch!"
"People are only allowed to point their fingers at someone when they are angry or annoyed at that person, but you did it for no reason, which makes it rude," Teresa replied back.
Before Peter could respond back to Teresa, Warren started laughing. Everyone in the living room turned their heads to Warren because of that. Teresa raised an eyebrow while Peter wore a confused look on his face, and Devin furrowed his eyebrows also in confusion. "You are gaping like a fish just because Teresa giggled in front of you?!" Warren clutched his stomach since it begun to hurt due to him laughing so hard.
"No, she giggled for the first time ever," Peter exclaimed. Warren finally stopped laughing and an amused smile graced his features. "I was with Teresa when she giggled for the first time in her life and i was also the person to make her giggle. If you don't believe it, just ask Teresa herself."
Teresa never saw Peter turn his head faster than she had that day, looking at her for an answer. Teresa hestitantly nodded her head, causing Peter's jaw to drop. "Before you and i were as close as we are today, Warren sometimes have his breakfast with me. He would always drink milk and eat chocolate bread. The chocolate filling inside the bread sometimes get smeared all over Warren's mouth and after holding it for a long time, i finally couldn't help but giggle at how silly he looks."
Seeing how shocked Peter was, Teresa immediately made an attempt to comfort him by saying, "It was more of a chuckle rather than a giggle really."
Peter got over his shock a few moments after Teresa said that and huffed in annoyance, before rolling his eyes. "Leave it to Warren Worthington to make every single girl he meets giggle, including whom i thought was my emotionless sister- like best friend," Peter added the 'best friend' part quickly when he noticed Devin's presence again, along with the warning glares from Warren and Teresa.
That was a nice save. Peter thought to himself. Warren diverted his eyes to Devin and glared at him again. "And what are you still doing here? Grey said that Teresa and Peter would end the tour by dropping him off at the lab to meet with Hank," he spoke up, his voice laced with bitterness, even when he said the last part that was meant for Peter and Teresa.
It was quite obvious that Warren didn't like Devin nor does he like his presence and wanted him to get out of the living room.
Peter shook his head. "Hank is currently busy with someone at the lab," Teresa informed him, causing Warren to furrow his eyebrows.
"Hank was available this morning. I saw him during breakfast time and he told me himself that he didn't have anything to do because there will be no classes within these few days and would probably be at the lab to do some experiments," Warren murmured, looking down at the floor, deep in his own thoughts.
He looked up again and asked, "Who was he with?"
"He was with Mystique," Teresa answered him before Peter could open his mouth to answer. Confusion was written all over Peter's face, but Teresa turned to him and gave him a look to stay silent and play along. Peter was conflicted at this, but he stayed silent and watched as Teresa gave her full attention back to Warren again.
"Raven is back?" Warren questioned, his eyes filled with utter surprise and a bit of delight.
Raven Darkhölme also known as Mystique was one of the original members of the X-men and she had helped in the battle against Apocalypse. However, she hadn't been at the school for months after it was repaired by Jean and Erik, though Teresa and Sofia managed to meet with her just before she left. So, it made sense for Warren to be surprised to hear that the person Hank was with at the moment was her, especially considering that they have not heard from her at all within the past several weeks.
"She won't be here for long. She needed to speak with Hank about an important matter," Teresa continued, her arms crossed.
"And Charles-" Warren began.
"Charles knows about Raven's presence at the school and wants to speak to her as well, but he knows that she has limited time in her hands and just let her talk to Hank about this important matter," Teresa informed him without skipping a beat, impressing one of the mutants in the room who had been listening all along.
Warren slowly nodded, accepting and believing Teresa's words. "Are you... going to stay here for a while?" He reluctantly questioned her.
Teresa shook her head. "No, Peter and i have to meet up with Jean soon to talk with her. And we were hoping to leave Devin here with you as to not tire him out by forcing him to follow us around like a lost puppy," Warren's eyes darkened slightly at that and turned to Devin, his brown eyes filled with dislike and disgust. "No,"
"Come on, Warren. We deserve a break time for ourselves," Peter protested, but Warren knew that him and Teresa wanted to talk to Jean to discuss about what Peter and Jean had discovered with Teresa, along with several other things.
Warren scoffed. "Grey is not in her correct mind right now. You can't really trust on what she has to say,"
Peter crossed his arms, an annoyed look formed on his face, as Devin took a step forward, wanting to speak his mind on the current situation. "I don't mind being left alone. You can just show me to the room Charles has provided me with and i'll just be minding my own business there-"
"If we leave you alone by yourself even just for a few minutes, you'll practically be a wanted man," Teresa intervened in a casual tone, glancing at Devin. "Leaving you by yourself for a few hours will result in you not being able to go outside without you having handcuffs and being heavily guarded by the adults."
"Charles would not approve of it at all, but Erik and the others would try the best in their ability to do that, especially with the recent events," Warren added, discouraging Devin from his idea.
Devin let out a small hum. He looked at Warren with interest, though Devin hid it very well. Devin knew that Warren wasn't trying to discourage him from being left alone for his own well being but rather for Teresa's and Peter's. If anything were to happen to Devin, Teresa and Peter will be the ones to get the blame and may even receive a punishment. At that moment, Peter was already dreading at the thought of his fathet finding out if things went wrong with Devin. Erik would made sure that Peter and Teresa would not go anywhere alone at the school ever again while he's around. Teresa knew that as well, but she wasn't dreading that thought like her brother was. The siblings were more than capable to do what they wanted to do, even if Erik restricted them to, since they can use their powers to get past him. However, Erik would definitely make things a lot harder for the both of them.
"It'll only be for a little while, we'll come back as soon as we're done," Teresa made an attempt to change Warren's mind, tilting her head to the side, but Warren only scowled and shook his head a 'no'. "Get Kurt or Ororo to look after him. For all i care, you can even ask Erik or Charles because i'm not going to play babysitter with silver haired stranger over there." Warren narrowed his eyes at Devin when he said that.
Peter glared at Warren. "Watch it, Worthington! He's not the only mutant with silver hair in this living room,"
Warren ignored Peter and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Five hundred push ups," the blonde mutant froze at that and turned his attention to Teresa. "What?" He questioned, thinking that he might have misheard her.
Teresa crossed her arms. "You heard me, five hundred push ups," she repeated herself, as an astounded look appeared on Warren's face. "Do you agree to it?"
Warren hesitated but eventually, he nodded to show his agreement with Teresa. "Fifty books," he replied back.
"Five hundred push ups and fifty books?" Peter scrunched his nose, showing his confusion. "Are you two trying to wish for something for the other? Because i want twenty-two fried chickens for myself."
Teresa and Warren rolled their eyes in unison. "We only say those words when we have an agreement with each other or want a favour. If one of us is unable to pay back the favour, then that means we have to do the thing we hate the most. Since i hate doing push ups, i show my commitement to the agreement by agreeing to do five hundred if i were unable to repay the favour," she explained to him.
"I hate books and reading one that doesn't even have a picture in it is torturing to me, especially if they are boring," Warren grimaced. "I show my commitement to the agreement by reading fifty books if i'm unable to repay the favour."
"It's all about trust really," Teresa added, before she glanced at Warren. "And magazines and comic books doesn't count either."
Warren groaned. "You're so cruel that you make Hank look like a saint when he gives out homework,"
Warren and Peter chuckled but after they were done, Warren's whole mood changed completely. He sighed and looked down. "Just hurry up, will you both?" The siblings nodded their heads, a smile forming on Peter's face. They headed out of the living room, but Teresa stopped right at the entrance of the living room and turned back to Warren. "I hope you'll save a seat for me later at dinner," she spoke up. Warren's lips turned slightly, looking almost like a small grin.
"I'll think about it," he said in an teasing tone, but there was not a single doubt that Warren would definitely be saving a seat for Teresa at dinner.
Peter's head suddenly popped back at the entrance of the living room and yelled, "Save a seat for me too! I don't mind sitting between you two."
Warren rolled his eyes. "Good luck escaping Erik's grasp first. Silver-blue over there will probably join us for dinner too and i'm pretty sure that Erik will try to prove Charles wrong," he said, referring to Devin. Peter only shrugged. "That's your problem, not mine. Okay, see ya!" With that, Peter used his superspeed to go away from the living room.
Teresa rolled her eyes at Peter's actions. "Goodbye," she told Warren, before she left the living room as well.
"Bye," Warren murmured back, even though Teresa was already out of his sight and had most likely not heard what he had said.
"What was that?" Devin questioned from behind Warren who was quick to turn around and shoot a glare at Devin when Warren saw him sitting on the couch.
"What was what?" Warren asked bluntly, which made Devin raise an eyebrow and gave him a look.
However, Devin didn't respond back to Warren and only picked a magazine up from the table. "Continue to stay oblivious then," was what Devin decided to say, before he flipped a page of the magazine.
Warren wore a weirded out look on his face due to Devin's actions, before conflict settled in his eyes when he thought more about Devin's words. "I have no idea what you're talking about," he told Devin again, repeating himself.
"Of course you don't," Devin only replied, not looking up from the magazine and flipped to another page.
Denial is the first step to destruction, after all. A small voice inside Warren's mind said in a singing tone. He shook his head in an attempt to get the voice out of his head, causing Devin to glance up at him out of curiosity and concern, but stayed silent and continued to watch Warren carefully.

After Teresa and Peter had left the living room, Peter was quick to turn his head to Teresa, opening his mouth to question her. Teresa noticed this and merely said, "Warren called Jean 'Grey',"
But it only made Peter scrunch his nose, not understanding what Teresa was trying to tell him. "So?"
Teresa gave him a look. "When was the last time Warren called you by your last name?" Her eyes lingered onto him as Peter started to think about his answer.
"I'm used to him calling me by my last name, but he usually only does it when he's being playful or angry with me, but he didn't look-" Realization dawned onto Peter in a matter of seconds, and his mouth formed an 'o' shape. "Warren is angry at Jean? Why?"
"I'm not sure," Teresa's lips twisted into a frown, "but i have a feeling all of this has something to do with the Horan sisters."
"The Horan sisters," Peter murmured, deep in his own thoughts.
Teresa let out a hum. "I wasn't entirely lying when i said that Hank was meeting with Mystique. He received a message from her today, but i didn't see what the message was about. I was busy observing Hailey, she was standing near to Hank and she looked a little tense. I already find it odd for her to be meeting with Hank, but her unusual behaviour just says everything that one needs to know."
Peter only made a noise to respond to Teresa's information, which made the girl look at her brother with narrowed eyes, finding it quite unusual for him to do.
Peter was too deep in her own thoughts to give his full attsntion to Teresa. Memories of the conversation Jean and Peter had overheard from Charles's office flooded his mind and he scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah, about that. I might know something that you should probably need to know about too," and with that, Peter began to tell Teresa every single thing that happened with Peter and Jean while Teresa was busy distracting their father. After he was done, Teresa let out a tired sigh, which was not what Peter was expecting her to do. "Great, now we have to work together with our look alike also known as Devin Spencer," she muttered in annoyance.
Peter tilted his head. "What-?"
"According to what you had told me, Thomas Horan is a quite powerful and dangerous man, even if he has no powers or a high status, which honestly makes him much more impressive,"
"Impressive?"
"Yes, it goes to show that even a ordinary nice person can turn into something that no one thought they could turn into until they are put on the very edge of their limits," Teresa explained to him. "Anywho, in order to win against Thomas Horan, we would need someone who has great knowledge of him and Devin was the person to warn us, so it would make sense for Charles to ask him for his help."
"Elizabeth and Hailey also know a lot about him, he's their dad. They could help us if they believe in doing the right thing," he made an attempt to offer the thought to Teresa, but she declined it.
"Exactly, that's their dad. We would practically be torturing them by doing this, especially since they are close to him. Family is quite important to them, remember? They might not even be willing to get involved in any way," she responded back.
"But Erik wouldn't agree with Charles asking Devin for his help," Peter pointed out.
"It doesn't matter if Erik and the others doesn't agree to it or even protest about it because they would have to find a way to change Charles's mind. He would just say that we need all the help we can get and whatever he says will always happen," Teresa rubbed her forehead with her hand. "It doesn't help at all that that man knows that we are siblings and that we are Erik's children either. If he ever tries to bring that up in front of Erik too while they are working together, he's definitely going to get hurt."
"Wait, what?"
