Chapter 21: Sisters Don't Lie

Hailey Horan leaned her body against the doorway with her arms crossed, watching as her older sister Elizabeth folded her newly washed clothes on her bed. Her beautiful dark hair was pulled into a messy bun while Elizabeth's golden blonde hair was pulled into a ponytail.

"Have you heard anything from Papa lately?" Hailey suddenly questioned, her arms no longer crossed against her chest.

"Papa?" Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows and stopped what she was doing, before she looked at Hailey and thought about her answer. "I haven't heard from Papa since four days ago and he only asked me how you and i are doing, and if we were eating– you know, the usual questions."

Hailey nodded at the answer. "Why are you asking? Is something wrong?" Elizabeth wore a concerned look on her face, but Hailey just shook her head.

"Nothing is wrong, i was simply asking," she replied back as Elizabeth started folding her clothes again, listening to what Hailey is saying. "I haven't heard from him since four days ago as well. I thought i missed one of his calls by accident again like last time."

Elizabeth hummed. "Papa must be busy with work again. He was once really busy that he forgot to give us a call for a few days too, do you remember?"

"How could i not?" Hailey still remembered the memory of an anxious Elizabeth knocking down the door of their house when their father didn't call them for five days straight and found their father pointing a gun at their faces for barging in. He thought that they were robbers, but he immediately set his weapon aside as soon as he saw it was Elizabeth and Hailey.

Thomas Horan gave Elizabeth a lecture as to why she shouldn't barge into people's house, even if it's their own, unless it was a life and death situation. And in return, Elizabeth gave her father a lecture of her own on why he should keep on updating her and Hailey about his condition, even when he was busy. At first, Thomas waved off Elizabeth's concern until he realized that he had stayed awake throughout the night to continue working and agreed to make that same mistake again.

The day was quite memorable if Hailey was being honest. Other than that little scare, the day went quite well with their father spending time with Hailey and Elizabeth, while asking how everything was going on in their school. It was an uneventful day to some and people would probably think that Hailey would think that it was uninteresting too, but Hailey finds it rather enjoyable. Hailey was able to relax that day, she was able to laugh and smile at her father's jokes as he and Elizabeth made some desserts. Hailey only watched them and didn't help. She was capable of cooking simple dishes, but only does it sometimes. Elizabeth, on the other hand, loves cooking and sees it as a hobby of hers, always eager to try out new dishes and create new recipes for herself and others to make. It was a hobby she had gotten from their late Mama.

Hailey immediately snapped out of her thoughts at the thought of her mother and gave Elizabeth her full attention again. "He promised us not to do it again, but maybe he forgot," Elizabeth murmured. She folded clothes into a few stacks and walked to her wardrobe, before placing them carefully into it. "I just hope that he didn't forget to eat anything again."

"You know how he is when he's busy," Hailey said bluntly, but realized that her words were only going to make Elizabeth nervous and quickly added, "But i'm sure that he is eating and drinking well, he needs to tender to his beauty after all. He's bound to get wrinkles at this age if he doesn't take care of himself properly."

"Wrinkles?" Elizabeth scrunched her nose in confusion. "Father already has wrinkles and still looks good for his age. Well– at least according to the ladies of the neighbourhood," Elizabeth giggled in amusement while a smile graced Hailey's features, shaking her head.

"Don't remind me– Mrs. Hudson wouldn't stop gushing to me about how handsome Papa is and how young he still looks, even said that we could be mistaken as siblings with him," the blonde-haired girl laughed at that. "She's a nice lady though, always give us cookies whenever she bake some."

"Yeah, the cookies even remind me of the ones Mama would used to make for us," Hailey's eyes was quick to divert to Elizabeth when she mentioned their Mama. She was unsure whether or not Elizabeth had said that by mistake or on purpose, but Hailey's gaze continued to linger on Elizabeth. Elizabeth didn't seem bothered at all when she mentioned their Mama. Hailey found it quite strange since her elder sister would usually get bothered or at least make a reaction when their Mama was mentioned.

"Are you feeling fine?" Hailey wore a concerned look on her face, watching Elizabeth carefully. "Are you sick? Did you get injured during the mission? Did you hit your head?"

"Of course i'm fine, sissy!" Elizabeth let out a laugh, waving off Hailey's concern.

Hailey raised her eyebrow at Elizabeth's laugh. "Elizabeth, if you were to hear yourself right now, you would think that you or more specifically, your laugh makes you sound like a psychopath," Hailey stated, "and your laugh only sound like a psychopath when you are stressed. Don't try to lie to me about that."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Whatever you want to believe, sissy," she went to the small wooden table on the side of her bed and opened one of the drawers, taking out a drawing book, a pencil and an eraser.

Elizabeth placed the eraser on the wooden table but took the pencil in one of her hands and placed the drawing book on her lap. There was a stack of pillows behind her back, making her feel the soft surface of the pillows rather than the hard surface of the headboard. Elizabeth began to draw something on the book while Hailey only continued to look at her sister carefully, before she let out a breath and stopped leaning against the doorway. Hailey took one last look at Elizabeth, before she left the room and headed somewhere, most likely to one of her friends's rooms.

Elizabeth looked up from her drawing book when Hailey left the room and stared at the place where she was. Elizabeth looked away with a sigh, before she focused back on her drawing book.

Meanwhile, not too far from Elizabeth's room, Warren Worthington let out a breath as he looked outside the window of the school. He was crossing his legs while lying his body down on the red couch near the window where he got a view of the school grounds. The view wasn't quite nice if one has seen it one too many times, but Warren chose this place to see the beautiful sky that changes every single day. The sky was now a beautiful light blue colour, accompanied with the light grey clouds and bright yellow colour that the sun was showing.

Warren usually didn't come here, seeing as the living room was usually crowded with people, and he prefers to hear the peaceful and quiet melody of silence rather than the loud noises coming from everyone when he wants to rest or relax, but since the lockdown was still at place and only a few certain amount of students who are old enough are allowed to go out of their rooms to wander around the mansion for a little while. However, they were not allowed to be by themselves and Warren was breaking that rule by being in the living room by himself. Of course, he couldn't care less. Warren knew that if he lingered any longer in Jean's or Jubilee's presence, he will burst and he doesn't want that to happen. It was not the time and place to do so, after all.

What had happened between the three mutants was something that one does not see everyday.

Warren was an understanding person at times, and if he was being honest, he understood Jubilee's situation very well. He didn't blame her entirely for the whole situation. It wasn't as if Jubilee had actually done something bad but not telling them that vital information had cost them many things and one of them was time. If Jubilee were to tell them that information sooner, they would have been able to act sooner. However, it wasn't her fault for not telling them that information, especially since it was a personal one about one of their friends.

He understood or he didn't entirely understood because even with Jean's words and all of that understanding, there was a feeling of betrayal and rage in his chest for Jubilee. Warren wasn't sure why it was there, but he suspects that it may be because of his friends who had gotten injured supposedly because of Thomas Horan.

Scott Summers— if Warren was being honest, him and Scott hate each other. Scott was the first one to protest when Warren first joined the X-men team. Scott thought that Warren had been one of the reasons why his brother, Alex Summers, had died since he was on Apocalypse's side back then and resented him for that. Warren didn't blame him for that very reason too, but he grew a little frustrated over time with Scott because whenever he had tried to prove his loyalty to the team, Scott would always do something to try to get Warren off the team. Whether it was to manipulate the others into thinking Warren isn't trustworthy, that Warren has a plan to kill Charles without any of them suspecting him, and so on and so forth. However, whether Scott and Warren admit it or not, over time, they had started to care for each other. They don't care about each other like brothers, but if one of their lives were on the line, the other would definitely try their best to help and save them. Perhaps, it was also the feeling that Warren owed Scott something for Alex's death since Warren himself sometimes thinks that it's his fault too. But either way, ever since Scott got into that car accident that caused him to be severely injured and end up in the clinic bed, Warren would always visit him without anyone knowing.

The only person that knows about that is Peter and he would tease Warren a couple of times that he had become Scott's "guardian angel", only to get a rough nudge on the elbow by the said "guardian angel".

Speaking of Peter Maximoff— Peter is one of Warren's best pals and one of the small number of people in the school that he trusts. Before any of the accidents happened and it was the everyday old boring life for everyone at the school, Warren and Peter would hang out with each other often. When Warren first joined the team, Peter was one of the only people to be welcoming to him, although he was still cautious of him, which was understandable. But eventually, over time, they grew closer to each other and Peter became the second friend Warren made at the school.

Another one of his trusted friends is Peter's very own half-sister, Teresa Rosalie— she really was mysterious girl and Warren didn't know much about her if he was being honest, but she was the first friend Warren ever made at the school and shared a history together that had made them develope a strong friendship bond. He was there during one of her darkest moments and she was there during one of his. So, it wasn't a surprise when Warren acted protective of Teresa when she got into that accident. Well, it wasn't to the people who knew of their history together, which consisted of only two or three people, but for the others who didn't know, it was a surprise to them. In the public's eyes, Warren was one of the only people Teresa tolerated for some odd reasons and Teresa was one of the few people that Warren likes to annoy, no more than that. But of course, nothing is always as it appears.

"There is always more to the story than meets the eyes and ears, so you have to have a wide imagination and an open mind," Teresa told Warren the other day during lockdown when him and Teresa were watching over Peter out of fear that something would happen to him again if he were to be alone– or more specifically, what reckless things he would be doing if he were to be left alone.

Warren may have been one of the last people in their group to know about the blood relation between Peter and Teresa but he already had some suspicions when he started noticing the similarities between them both. In Warren's perspective, one of the things that made Peter and Teresa stand out from the rest is how welcoming they were to him.

Teresa wasn't exactly welcoming per se, but she was the only one who was willing to socialize with Warren while others did not, except for Peter who also wanted to know more about him. They both kept an open mind during that time and wanted to see how Warren was for themselves even though most people, including Teresa's very own room mate and one of hers and Peter's friends, Scott Summers, protested against it. Scott told them that Warren would just stab them in the back once they gets too comfortable with him and he received two completely different reactions from the siblings. While Peter protested back that Warren wouldn't like any normal person would do, Teresa snorted back that she would just stab him harder in his back with a knife, which only got her a stern look from Charles who was listening in to their conversation while making a cup of tea for himself from the kitchen and a silent Scott thinking to himself that Teresa would be doing just fine.

Warren moved his body a bit to find a comfortable position to be in, but found it quite hard with how large his wings were. It made him grumble in frustration until finally, he settled into his old position and sighed.

He wondered how the tour was going and hoped that everything was well, and that nothing bad has happened to two of his closest friends.

"For the last time, i never dyed my hair before! This is my natural hair colour." Devin exclaimed, as Peter who was inspecting Devin's silver hair with his eyes narrowed.

"Hm, i don't know. Your silver hair is lighter than my silver hair, it looks almost like it's been dyed," Devin rolled his eyes at Peter while Teresa watched with an entertained look, resisting the urge to let a smile form on her face and mentally facepalmed herself for what Peter had said.

If anyone had came across them and saw what Peter was doing, they would be scolding Peter for annoying Devin and Teresa as well for not intervening, especially since Devin was a guest. But in Teresa's defence, she and Peter were doing all of this on purpose, which doesn't exactly sound like a good defence. During the tour, Teresa secretly told Peter to annoy Devin as much as he possibly could when they were walking behind Devin. Peter was extremely confused at this, but made no attempt to go against his sister's wishes and did as he was told, and of course, Peter had a blast doing it. The purpose of Teresa's actions was to test Devin's patience, however, Teresa didn't expect Peter to start annoying Devin about his hair, especially since they have the same silver hair colour. The only difference is that Devin's silver hair is lighter than Peter's and could be mistaken as a white hair colour.

"Just because our silver hair looks different than the other, Peter, it doesn't mean that i had dyed mine," Devin replied back, but Peter only continued to narrow his eyes at Devin's hair.

"You're right. Yours look as white as snow though while mine doesn't. Maybe it's because of how old you are, it's pretty common for sixty years olds to have white hair right, Teresa?"

"Sixty–" Devin wore an "i'm done with you" look on his face as Teresa chuckled, but it died down as soon as she saw the mischievous look that replaced the previous one.

Oh dear. Teresa thought to herself, preparing herself for the little battle between Devin and Peter.

"If i'm sixty years old, then wouldn't that make you forty years old? I mean, after all, how can we be really sure that your silver hair isn't dyed at all? Both of your parents don't have silver as their natural hair colour," Devin brought up in a casual tone. A mischievous look that was identical to Devin's one appeared on Peter's face.

"My hair is all natural, baby, but i have to ask you the same thing too," Peter wore a cocky smirk, but it faltered when Devin replied back with a smirk, "My father was born with silver hair as well. My sister and i inherited it from him."

"Well, for all you know, one of Peter's parents or even both of his parents might be born with silver hair as well. You won't know for sure until you have met with them," Peter nodded in agreement with Teresa, the smirk still on his face but it was much smaller than before.

"I did a background check on you and your family, and neither one of your parents have silver hair. They both have dark hair," Peter felt confused at this but didn't show it, and instead, one of his eyebrows shot up, trying to show interest like Teresa would do. Afterwards, a smirk appeared on his face again. "Am i really that special to you for you to have a background check on me?" He asked, while putting his hand on his chest where his heart was to make himself appear more dramatic.

"Say everything you believe to make you sleep at night," Devin responded in a playful tone, but Teresa caught onto what he was implying and at the same time, Devin glanced at her with a smile. Their eyes met for a few moments as Teresa raised her eyebrow, moving her head a bit to the left and indirectly asking Devin if she should be impressed by his actions.

Before Devin could respond back, Peter interrupted them, "What in the world are you two doing?"

Devin and Teresa turned to Peter who wore a confused look, moving his head back and forth to the two mutants. Peter shook his head and moved aside, showing a door with the label "LAB" on it. "Hank is probably in here right now since he spends most of his time in the lab or his classroom, but i can't say for certain that he is actually in here. Would you like to go into the room to meet with him immediately or do you want one of us to go and get him for you?" Teresa inquired before Peter could make a remark.

"I wouldn't want to trouble you and Peter–" Teresa cut him off. "It would be no trouble at all. Besides, Hank doesn't like it when guests enter the lab and start touching things without his consent since they could make a potential mess of it."

Devin glanced at Peter who was looking back at Devin too and waiting for his answer. "Well... i suppose, i wouldn't want to disturb Hank with my sudden presence in his lab–"

"That's excellent. I'll just go in for a few minutes, wait here first," With that, Teresa opened the door of the lab amd entered it, leaving Peter and Devin alone together.

"How did you run a background check on me?" Peter questioned Devin, almost immediately after Teresa's departure. "Did you get someone to spy on me and my family or is there information about us all that is stored somewhere?"

"A spy is only necessary when the person is important or it is extremely hard to find information about them," he told him. Peter nodded at the answer, but then stopped and a puzzled look appeared on his face. "But that still didn't answer my question."

"That was my answer to your question, Peter, but it is not the type of answer you wanted to get from me," Devin replied back. "You'll receive this type of answers further on in your life."

Devin turned his head to the front and started tapping his feet, but Peter just continued to look at him.

I'm stuck with Teresa 2.0, but the funner version with silver hair. Peter paused at that thought. Nah, i'm stuck with the combination of me and Teresa but the adult version. He nodded at his thoughts. Yep, that sounds more about right. Devin and Peter turned to the lab's door when they heard the door open.

"Where's Hank?" Peter asked Teresa, seeing as she came out of the lab alone.

Teresa shook her head. "Hank is occupied for the mean time. Someone is currently with him," she glanced at Devin, her face was expressionless. "I suppose you will be with us for a little longer than expected. You must be disappointed."

"Why would you think i am? I enjoy both yours and Peter's company,"

What Devin was saying was the truth. He really did enjoy Teresa and Peter's presence, and their interactions together, but he feared that he may not be showing much enthusiasm or happiness and in return, it caused the siblings to think that he didn't want their company anymore, but Devin's thoughts disappeared when Teresa shrugged.

"Expect disappointment and you won't get disappointed," she replied back.

Teresa then turned her back on Devin and started walking away, "We'll just spend the rest of our time at the living room. Some snacks would be nice as well."

Devin didn't say anything about Teresa's words but wore a look of interest on his face, as Peter rushed over to Teresa's side. "Who was he with?"

"He was with Hailey," answered Teresa.
