Chapter 15

"There are storms everywhere," Ororo said softly, her eyes fixed onto the sky, rumbling every few seconds and threatening to release it's fury with lightning and thunder.

Jean barely glanced at the sky before she looked down and nodded. "I know,"

It had been a day since Teresa had gotten that.... shocking photograph from the hooded man that had got her coped up all alone in her room. Erik and Warren respected her wishes to be alone because they both knew it was a lot for her to take in, but at the same time, Erik was also hungry for answers. He tried looking for records of a woman that looked like Teresa or a familiar yet forgotten name with Hank, but he found none. However, while most of the students and teachers are too busy with themselves, Jean and Ororo noticed that ever since Teresa fled to her room, the weather had become stormy and gloomy, mirroring her current mood and situation.

"You have to go to her sooner or later," Ororo looked into Jean's eyes, blue eyes momentarily met brown eyes, before Jean looked away and nodded.

"I know," she mumbled again. "I just don't know how to get her to open up. We both know how stubborn she is."

With knowledge of the stubborness running deep inside the Lensherr family tree, Ororo can't help but nodded in agreement. Although Teresa was quite wise for her age and can be an understanding person at times, Jean knew that it would take some time for the young mutant to break because of how long she had kept the pain of her past to herself, which sounded a lot like Jean herself with the other students before the events of Apocalypse. The mutant really wanted to help Teresa as much as she can but she feared that she would make the situation worse than it already is. However, after visiting a pretty delusional yet smart Peter, who encouraged her to go after her, she felt confidence rushing up her body and was prepared to have a personal conversation with Teresa although she was still very much nervous.

Glancing at Ororo, Jean saw the small smile on her face as a sign of encouragement for her. Jean sighed and closed her eyes, knocking onto the door.

A few moments had passed, and the door was finally opened, much to Ororo's and Jean's suprise.

They had thought that Teresa might not have opened the door and they were correct because Teresa was not in front of the door. Instead, the girls found themselves staring at an empty space. A growl distracted them from their confused thoughts and turned down to see Lion staring at them. He growled again before he nudged Ororo's shoes and ran away from them. Jean and Ororo turned to each other before they shrugged. "I guess I'd have to chase after that furry little creature while you have a talk with Teresa. I don't think she would want her companion too far from the school."

"Hey, good luck," Ororo patted Jean's back a few times before she disappeared from the halls, chasing after the fast runner.

Jean turned around and redirected her attention onto the slightly closed door. She closed her eyes for a few seconds before she opened them again and smiled, seeing the door now wide open. Since she was lacking of training with the team due to lockdown, the gorgeous ginger promised to herself to use her powers on the little things in an attempt to fill that lack of training. However, even with the door wide open, Jean knocked on the door and came into the room. "Teresa?" She spoke out, closing the door behind her.

Jean's attention went all over the room but stopped when she saw what she wanted to see. Teresa was sitting beside the large window near her bed, leaning on it, as she boredly stared at an empty space in front of her. Jean had a feeling that Teresa had just woken up from a nap due to her messy dark hair. However, with her pale face fresh as the green grass on a sunny weather, blue eyes that held mystery as a secret treasure in a mountain, it was no secret that Jean thinks Teresa is beautiful. But that was not what had stunned Jean. No, what had stunned her was Teresa's dark brown hair. It was laying aimlessly and freely on her shoulders. It may not have been such a big deal if Jean had not always seen Teresa's hair pulled into a ponytail and seen other unique hair styles. Of course, that wasn't the case and it became another sign of change within Teresa- but this one might just be a good change.

"Like what you see?" Suprise was evident in Jean's eyes when she heard the hint of cockiness and amusement in Teresa's words.

Teresa rolled her eyes at her, brushing off a side of her hair, before looking back at the window. Jean snapped out of her shock trance. "I'm sorry-" she cleared her throat, "I didn't mean to stare. It's just that I- you-"

Teresa redirected her attention onto the young mutant and raised her eyebrow, a bored look attatched to her face, as Jean continued to ponder over words to explain her previous behaviour.

"You look beautiful," she breathed out, "like a living doll."

Teresa raised both her eyebrows in suprise but said nothing and looked away from her. She shifted in her seat comfortably and pulled down the material of the soft white dress she was wearing. "Sofia said the same thing about my hair too. She would always want to style my hair in the orphanage but since I didn't want anyone staring at me in the school, I just pull my hair into a ponytail. I also do that to decrease the chances of having to go to the barber shop soon."

Jean slowly nodded, staring at Teresa with realization in her eyes. "You've changed," she said.

"I've decided to let several of my emotions go and start acting like an ordinary mutant- as I can be," Teresa told Jean without giving her a single glance, her eyes glued to the ground. Her eyes narrowed towards Jean and her lips thinned into a straight line, "but don't even think about telling this to everyone. I don't want them gaping at me like an animal at the zoo who is in the brink of extinction."

"What changed your mind?" She spoke out. "This has something to do with your mother, doesn't it?"

"Yes, and no." Jean blinked a few times, not believing her. "In the past hours, while I was grieving over the woman in the photograph who might be related to me and gave me a remarkable amount of pain, I've began to travel deep inside my mind and realized that a mysterious energy was inside there. I had not known of that energy or how long it was there, however, I sensed that it had been there for a long time and it is utterly important for me to relax because it might be one of the only ways to get this weird energy off my mind."

"A mysterious energy?"

"Not a dark force as you might say, but an energy that's keeping me from knowing something deep inside of my mind. I'm unsure of what it might be but it's quite strong," Teresa informed her.

Jean nodded several times while attempting to process those important information inside her head before she frowned, realizing what Teresa had said about her mother. "Why grieve? Why not be happy about it?" She questioned.

"She's most likely dead," the young mutant did not mince her words, lacking of emotions on her face, "either that or she does not want to be found." Teresa looked down, her lips thinned into a straight line, the peculiar feeling of grief back in her stomach. "This woman- who we all think might be my mother- somehow knew a way to erase Erik's memories," Teresa rested her head on her shoulder and closed her eyes, "There was no way he was lying. I can practically feel the frustration radiating off him. He's trying very hard to remember about my mother and brother since he was in the photo too but I can also feel his grief and pain of not remembering them."

"He's also frustrated of not remembering you," Jean cautiously moved closer to Teresa and sat on the edge of the messy bed in front of her. "You can't deny that either, Teresa. Both of you immediately knew that the baby in the photograph- the baby he was holding was you."

Jean's lips turned down, showing how upset she was. "And it must be pretty bad for him as it is for you, maybe even worse," Teresa had to nodded in agreement with Jean's statement. "It's the worst for him because he had raised a little boy for a few years, made memories- which he might never remember- with him and held one of his children in his arms without raising or knowing about her for nearly seventeen years. We could only imagine how disappointed and frustrated he is."

"I think every father who is going through what Erik's going through will feel the same way," she paused, "along with their child."

Teresa's expression grew gloomy and sad, which made Jean's stomach turned and the feeling of pity began to rise in her. "I know it hurts, Teresa. But if you want to find out the truth about your past, you would have to face your fears together with your father."

"What if the truth turns into my own nightmare?" She glanced at Jean. "What if the truth becomes too ugly and fearful that I can't handle it? What if it truly was meant to be hidden?"

"But you have a right to know about it. To remember your hidden memories," the mind reader moved closer to Teresa until their faces were inches away from each other. "I can help you with those memories right now if you let me get them."

Teresa frowned and looked down, pondering over Jean's question, until finally she looked up again. A determined look was on her face as she sighed and took a deep breath. "I can let you into my mind but it's only for you to get those memories back and I'm not sure if you can get any interesting memories when I was a baby but it's better if you get some boring ones rather than none," Jean beamed in delight and placed both of her hands on Teresa's head. "Remember, only those memories, Jean. No more, no less."

"Of course, Teresa, but do let me warn you that this might hurt a little because I need to use a bit of force to get pass your strong mind," Teresa hummed while Jean closed her eyes and focused onto Teresa's mind.

"Oh wow," Jean's eyes wide open with amazement as she looked around Teresa's mind. "Your mind is insanely large, Teresa! Almost like the Red Queen's head in Alice and the Wonderland." She quickly added. "No offence,"

"None taken," Teresa replied monotonously, not bothered with Jean's remark. "I take that as a slight compliment actually. I want my mind to be 'insanely wide' as you call it because a large mind means an open mind, which also means many possibilities that runs through my head. However, of course, the possibility of overthinking things is a negativity that many people with large minds have to endure and most of them get affected with it, including the people surrounding them, because of their attitude. That's why a lot of people carry around a mind full of negativity- because they overthink too much," she paused. "But then again, it depends how you treat people because they would most likely treat you the same."

Jean wandered around Teresa's mind while asking, "Is that why you like to keep ignoring students when they try to befriend you?"

A small pause was in between the conversation until finally, Teresa responded, "You might have to be a little specific to which student you are talking about, because there are plenty who I dislike."

"What about Jubilee?" An idea suddenly popped up into Jean's mind. "Or Warren? Or maybe Peter, you seemed to get along with him pretty well or was it because that he's your brother."

"Half brother," Teresa corrected her, not a hint of annoyance laced in her words, much to Jean's suprise. "Jubilee is full of positivity and has a positive mind. She's always friends with everyone and I guess it's also her mission to become friends with a loner like me. Warren is uh.... far more complicated. And I treat Peter the same as everyone, a little nicer to him but no favours. I only told him about how we are related after we became close friends."

"Jubilee is friends with everyone, whether their powers are dangerous, an introvert or an extrovert. She doesn't want any mutant to go through their hard journey as a mutant alone," Jean explained.

"Makes me intrigued about her past," Teresa remarked.

"I don't think you would consider it interesting because it's pretty basic," Jean stopped in her tracks when she saw Warren's face popped up in one of Teresa's memories, eyeing it curiously, "She had a normal life, a normal school and was also a popular girl back in her old school. Her parents are one of the few parents who supported Charles and the school," she leaned forward and tries to touch the memory with her finger but when she does, Teresa let out a hiss and the memory went away, "Okay, that hurts a bit. Don't touch anything, would you?"

Jean quickly pulled back her hand and muttered a small, "Sorry," before she directed her attention onto the large empty space in front of her. Jean walked to it and was about to pass through until a force blocked her and made her jump back, falling onto her back. She groaned in pain and rubbed her back. "Are you alright?" Teresa's concern voice echoed throught Jean's head. She nodded, a headache forming in her head. "I'm fine, but I think I found the problem here," Jean slowly stood back up. "You were right. There's some kind of force that's preventing you from knowing something. I can try to take it down but it might hurt a lot and it seemed to be quite strong too," she murmured the last part.

"Jean, wait! This kind of force is not an easy one you can crack. It's strong-"

"It is strong but I will be able to break it down within a few minutes," she replied, holding her hand up.

"Of course you can, but not before I faint first," Teresa snorted back. "Don't underestimate the force. I have not opened my mind in a long time, much less let other people come into it. And if this force is as old as I think it is, then it's probably as strong as a new one should be. Maybe even stronger than a new one because it had been here for a long time."

"Then what do you think we should do?" Jean questioned.

"We have to wait until the force weakens. That way, you'll be able to break it down without me fainting and Erik getting angry over it. However, I would not guarentee going through this procedure without a minor concussion."

Jean shook her head. "Erik will still freak out and possibly kill me like he did to Warren."

Teresa chuckled. "Please. He barely even touch Warren, mostly because he had to look after me and Peter, but he would bring mercy onto you since you're a girl..... I hope," she trailed off, which made Jean even more hesitant to break down the wall. "You don't think the injuries would be bad, do you?"

"Only if you do it gently and keep it in a normal pace. That might be enough to break down the wall," she responded.

"Teresa?" Erik's voice caught both Jean and Teresa's attention. "What are you two doing? Warren said that he had seen Jean came into- Why is Teresa bleeding?! Jean, what did you do to my daughter?!"

"Bleeding?!" Jean shrieked and opened her eyes in shock, disconnecting herself from Teresa's mind and jumping back in suprise when she realizes blood was coming out of her nose. Teresa rolled her eyes and took a tissue, wiping the red liquid rather harshly. "Please! If you think this is horrible, you should see how many times I had nosebleeds during my childhood. Ms. Jane had to bring me to the doctor because she was worried that I was injured or something. But it turns out that I wasn't drinking my milk during that time lately, and if I don't drink my milk, I will have nosebleeds lots of it."

"Was it something I did?" Jean murmured to herself as Erik started to fuss over the bleeding teenager.

"More like something I did," Teresa shooed Erik's hands away and snatched the tissue box from him. "Like I said before, since I have not opened my mind to anyone for a long time, there would be a few consequences along the way while we do the procedure. And since you've tried walked right to the strong and invisible wall in my mind, I'm not suprised I got a minor injury. However, in time, my body will get used to it and I won't have another nosebleed. Perhaps, a small headache, but nothing more and nothing less."

"Wait, you did what now?!" Erik exclaimed furiously. "Teresa, your body is mentally and physically exhausted! It had not even been a week since you've woken up from the car accident with Scott and you're here ready to exhaust yourself to death by opening your mind to someone."

"Exhaust myself to death," Teresa let out a humourless chuckle, "And they say I'm dramatic. I can handle a little nosebleed to get my memories back, Erik. I've faced much worse injuries and had bled more than a minor nosebleed." However, this made Erik frown. "Exactly, what other injuries that are worse than the nosebleed you're currently dealing with before I was here?" Teresa narrowed her eyes at him. "It's a gift from Mother Nature, and I would like to share it with you, but unfortunately this kind of injury only happens to women." This made Jean let out a laugh, which earned her a glare from Erik. She blushed in embarrassment and coughed, trying to hide her red face.

Erik redirected his attention back to Teresa when he heard her sigh. "Look, I know you're very protective of me and Peter, especially after what had happened to us, but we need this memories. I'm doing this because someone had placed somekind of wall inside my own mind as if they were trying to prevent me from remembering anything about it," Teresa said, her lips curled into a frown. "I'm done with everyone trying to keep secrets from me and I want to see my own memories, whether they're good or bad." The frowns on the two mutants had not faded from their faces and Jean could have sworn that those frowns were permanent. While Teresa and Erik continued to stay silent and studied each other carefully, Jean began to notice how similar their frowns look alike.

Like father, like daughter. Jean thought to herself. Both powerful, both not want to give up, and both as stubborn as a mule. But both determined to succeed.

Erik sighed, letting go of his frustration and breaking eye contact with his daughter. "Fine, you can do whatever you're going to do to break down whatever it is that's blocking you from your old memories. Just be safe, don't exhaust yourself and tell me, Charles and Hank about what you remember."

"You should also tell us about what you remember," Jean spoke up in a montonous voice, "with all the peace and quiet in the school, I think I'm starting to realize what you three are planning to do. But when were you going to tell Teresa and Peter about it?"

Erik glanced at Jean, eyes narrowed, studying her carefully, while Teresa raised her eyebrow. The teenager had questions running around her thoughts but instead of asking all of them, she asked the most obvious question, "What did you remember?"

"A name and a place," Erik stated with a mysterious emotion in his eyes that Teresa just can't seem to get a hold of. "Charles and I were just about to go there,"

"And you didn't think of calling us for help?" Jean inquired, referring to the X-men.

Erik rolled his eyes and said, "Since the school is currently in lockdown, we can't be there for too long and we didn't want to risk anymore students, seeing as several of them had already gotten hurt." Teresa's lips thinned into a straight line before looking dead into Erik's eyes. "Where are we going?" Determination was in the young mutant's eyes and Erik can't help but feel proud of her, although there was a hint of fear in his eyes.

"We're going to a place called Westview," he informed them.
