Chapter 4
Evelyn's POV
Draco and I arrived at Hogwarts in no time. The place had been completely transformed - Snape was the headmaster and the Carrows were taking over everything. It almost hurt to be there.
Most importantly of all, the two Death Eaters - the Carrows - seemed like they had began to do everything they could to separate Draco and I.
He seemed distant lately, if something was on his mind. I didn't want to pry, though, so I kept to myself.
After getting a deep cut in my arm by Amycus Carrow for talking to Daphne in class, I sat in the Owlery, writing a letter to my mother. It was way past curfew, but I didn't care.
Mother,
I know it isn't wise to leave Hogwarts, but you need to get me out of here. Draco too, if I can persuade him to come with me. It's not safe here and I-
My hand jolted suddenly, smearing most of what I'd already written. It was Filch, with Alecto Carrow hot on his heels.
"What do you think you're doing?" The Carrow snapped, ripping the paper out of my hands.
After reading it, she laughed sadistically as she slapped me across the face and tore it to pieces. She scraped her nails across the area where she slapped me, leaving a trial of blood.
The worst part was that I couldn't protect myself. I was just a squib.
She threw the shredded paper over me. They landed in my hair and one in the cut that she'd formed on my cheek when her nails scratched me.
I picked it out, wincing. She laughed with Filch.
"Get to bed," Filch ordered.
"You are to tell no one about this," Alecto hissed before walking away with Filch.
I groaned, trying to get myself up off the floor. But I was frozen in place. I had no motivation to move - I wanted to stay there and die.
"Eve?"
I recognised the voice instantly and said, "Draco, get out of here!"
"No, I came looking for you," he replied as he entered my sight, his wand lit up in front of him. He picked me up bridal-style in his arms.
"How did you know I was gone?" I asked as I gratefully rested my head against his neck.
"Daphne found me in the common room saying that you were gone," he sighed.
"Why were you up?" I frowned.
Draco was silent.
"Draco, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," he told me, but his voice was unsure.
"I know you're lying. I'll get it out of you eventually."
"What were you doing up here?" He inquired, then he noticed my cheek.
"What the hell is that?" He questioned, pointing to it.
"I was writing a letter to my mother and Alecto Carrow found me," I explained.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" He said, handing me a fresh piece of parchment from his pocket, "Write another one. If she comes back, I'll hex her."
I smiled at him. I took the parchment and picked up my quill, quickly scribbling a letter again.
Draco and I watched as my owl Nightmare flew into the darkness, taking the letter to my mother.
I grabbed his hand as I told him, "I'm leaving. Come with me."
