Chapter Eleven
Kai dropped to his knees where Moon and Shintaro had once been, crushing anguish and grief weighing him down. He felt fear, panic, anger, and confusion grip him as he sat there in silence. Where could they have gone? How could he get Shintaro back? What did Moon want with him? Would Shintaro stay strong enough to fight through whatever she was planning? Would Kai get to them before Moon had accomplished her plan? One thing was certain - he was not going to let this slide. He had to get Shintaro back, no matter the cost.
The door behind Kai slammed open, and Falte rushed in worriedly. He knelt down beside his son and touched his good shoulder gently. His voice came out panicked and worried. "What happened? Are you hurt? Kai, say something," he added frantically when Kai didn't respond.
Falte then noticed Chase sitting on his knees with his hands on his head and looked from his son back to Chase. "What happened? Where is Shintaro? Are you guys alright?"
Neither of the boys answered. Chase was too busy trying to fight off the Dark magic threatening to take him over, and Kai was too swallowed in grief, pain, and confusion to reply.
"Where is Shintaro?!" Falte practically screamed, startling Kai out of his daze.
Falte's son looked up at him and felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes. He blinked them away and took a long, shaky breath. "Moon ... Moon has him. She teleported away with him..." He trailed off, his eyes falling down to his hands. He wasn't sure what else to say. He couldn't put into words the determination he had to get his friend back.
Chase let out a groan suddenly, jerking Kai back to reality. Chase was fighting off Dark magic, and Kai being there was probably not helping. Kai was just about to stand up when Chase's whole body shook and a choked sob escaped his mouth.
Kai crawled over on his hands and knees to Chase. "I'm sorry, Chase... I should have done something..." He almost put his hand on his friend's shoulder, but decided against it before he made things worse. Instead he said: "We're getting him back, no matter what. You have my word on that."
Chase gave a small nod. "I know, Kai. I know you'll stop at nothing to get him back, and neither will I. I just... I'm worried. He ... I don't know what Moon is going to do with him, but I don't like the idea of her even having a 'plan for him'." He leaned back and removed his hands from his head with a shaky sigh.
Falte rushed forward and bent down beside them again, but couldn't say anything before a furious, confused, panicked, and worried Linda came pounding in.
"WHERE IS HE?!" she yelled loudly, and Kai heard Abby groan out in the living room tiredly. "WHAT DID MOON DO WITH HIM? WHAT HAPPENED? WHERE IS SHINTARO!!"
Kai flinched back as though she'd slapped him. Guilt washed over him like a tidal wave. He was responsible for this. He'd gotten Shintaro captured. He hadn't done anything to stop Moon. Now he was responsible for getting Shintaro back. He straightened and faced Linda with a frown.
"Moon took him," he told her. "Linda, stop freaking out. We will get him back, NO MATTER WHAT WE HAVE TO DO." Kai stood up and faced her, looking down slightly.
Linda stared back up at him defiantly, but nodded her head in agreement. "I know we'll get him back. I just can't believe she got away with him."
Kai's stature crumpled, and he put his hands on his face. "I know. I'm sorry. It was my fault. I just stood there, when I could have done something."
Chase stood up and whacked him in the head so quickly that Kai didn't have time to comprehend what had happened before his head began to throb dully. He looked up at Chase, who was frowning angrily at him.
"It is NOT your fault, dummy!" he spat at Kai. "It's Moon's. She's the one who took him, therefore she's to blame. So shut up with that 'it's my fault' crap!" He turned away before Kai could do or say anything to him and stalked out of the room shakily.
Falte moved in front of his son and nodded. "He's right, Kai. Stop thinking that it's your fault, please. It gets you nowhere, and we want to get somewhere - to Shintaro - right?"
Kai knew deep down that they were right. That the blame was on Moon for capturing Shintaro and doing whatever she pleased with him. That Moon was at fault for taking their friend because she was the one that had done it. But Kai also knew that they were wrong. Most of the blame was on himself for not doing anything. He could have blasted her with Dark magic. He could have made a blade and sliced her in half. He could have jumped on her. He could have teleported Shintaro to his side. He could have trapped Moon in a Dark shield. He could have done something. Moon was at fault for being the one to take Shintaro, and Kai was at fault for being the one who'd let it happen.

Early the next morning - Kai didn't get any sleep; he was honestly surprised that Chase, Falte, and Linda had gotten any - Kai was ready to find a way to get his friend back. When Nanami had woken up and found that her new friend was gone, she had begun to wail and hadn't stopped since. She was hugging her toy and sobbing into it, while Abby was quietly trying to calm her down. Kai felt terrible for Shintaro's kids. They had to go through the fact that their father was captured by some insane lady, and that they may not even get him back. Abby was blinking back tears even as she rubbed Nanami's back, and Chase was still in the boys' room, by himself.
Kai was in the kitchen, but his appetite had left him. He slammed the fridge door closed and huffed angrily. He couldn't believe that he'd let Shintaro get taken away. He was angry at Moon, but mostly angry at himself. He wanted to go back in time and make sure that Shintaro would stay here, be fine. But he knew that he couldn't do that. He had Dark magic, a telepath, and a Light, but somehow no one with the ability to alter time had come up. That was something he really wished for at the moment.
Falte was sitting at the table, talking on the phone with his work. He was telling them that he was going to be out of town - Kai felt a surge of hope: they were going out of town to get Shintaro back. They weren't waiting until Moon showed up again. They were going headfirst into the problem - for a long time, a time that he didn't know. Thankfully, his manager was literally the nicest person Kai had ever met (besides his girlfriend, of course. No one could measure for her.) and let Falte take a long time off.
Kai found himself wondering what they would do. Searching for him would be a good option, but since Moon had used teleportation, there was no way of tracking him except using Linda's telepathy, but her range could only go so far. He knew that Chase could do some Light tracking spell, but Kai didn't know how long he could keep that up, since he was near a Dark at all times.
All he knew was that they were going to get Shintaro back.
