Truce

This is lowkey based off the Magiclicas Christmas video "All I Want For Christmas" but it doesn't really have to be??? The holiday season is normally when people put aside differences for a while soooo

Anyone else being thrown off by the fact that in Magiclicas timeline, it's April/May/June time, but in the real world it's already Christmas AGAIN?? It's really tripping me up DXD

Anyway so POV is ALL over the place I was experimenting because I couldn't decide on a POV lol

———————-

Everston Academy was holding a picnic fundraiser at their local park. Everything was fine and dandy. Adam Foley manned the barbecue, Sarah Canaday took care of talking to people while Principal Paulina Lawrence indulged in the food that was present. Many students mingled about, mostly Magiclicas, chatting and eating food while others, the quiet Ciphers, manned the stalls. For the most part, everyone was enjoying themselves, or at least no one was unsatisfied.

Below the ground in a hidden bunker, the inhabitants were confused by the noise above them.

"Is it the police? Have we been found?"

"Ichiro, what do we do?"

Everyone turned to a man they respected as their leader. He held up his hands in a quieting motion.

"Everyone, calm down. We won't be found out today. Change into civilian clothes and let us go and see who is at our door."

And so, the two dozen present Spero hurried to their bunks to grab their civilian clothes and then change.

Kai had an inkling as to what was happening above them. Quinston had mentioned wanting to go to a fundraiser picnic for the school, and if Kai remembered correctly, was supposed to be today. Kai was worried what could happen if there are a couple dozen innocent Everston students above them.

Once everyone was adequately disguised, they gathered around their base exit and waited. Their leader made his way through the crowd wearing a brown wig and contacts- a very convincing disguise for a infamous traitor. He unlocked the base door and with a glance over his shoulder lead his followers into the outside forest.

The people from the school all turned to look at the mass of people that had just joined them in their clearing. Most went unrecognized on either side, but a few Magiclicas recognized peers... or enemies.

Adam Foley narrowed his eyes. He had seen some of these people before. The girl with the two-colored eyes that he saw sneaking around, the unnatural redhead that rarely accompanied the others, the tan boy that stood apart from the others and he saw in these same civilian clothes with one of his students. He made eye contact with the man in front.

The Spero.

Quinston did not originally recognize most of these people until he laid eyes on Kai. The sky-eyes boy was staring intensely at him and clued the brunette into what just happened. Quinston looked around at his peers and saw mostly confused faces, but also some concerned. Kai was still looking at him and Quinston had to resist the urge to go to him and give themselves away.

Ichiro nodded to the adults and awkwardly waved to the children that were about. He had no idea how to explain their strange appearance. A black-haired man portaled next to... Sarah, and whispered in her ear. They both looked at Ichiro with uncertainty.

"Spread out, mingle," Ichiro whispered to his second-in-command, Reina. She glanced at him before briskly nodding and passing the message.

Soon the Spero had dispersed among the Magiclicas and Ciphers. Some had started up conversation, and others had decided to spend some of their little money to buy snacks and baked goods.

Jax stayed in the back of the group, away from easy eyesight. He had immediately recognized the short red-and-black hair of Kylie, which he found himself drawing a similarity to his new friend Kai. She was manning one of the food booths; some sort of Everston fundraiser. He knew that if she or Mr. Foley or Quinston or Melissa spotted him, he and the Spero would be done for. So as much as he wanted to see if there was a chocolate fountain, he would wait.

Melissa felt herself slowly building panic in her chest. She had immediately recognized the Spero when they appeared and tucked her hair into the beanie she was currently wearing. Quinston had come over and warned her, but she was already purchasing a hot cocoa and trying not to look over her shoulder. Now she was sipping her drink while standing at a table with Quinston and Jin, who also happened to be there after school with her. Quinston came to most school events but she was surprised to see the Korean boy for once.

Jin was confused as to what was going on. Melissa and Quinston seemed tense, a lot of the other people were confused, and the newcomers seemed nervous. One of the newcomers had a sly smirk and approached their standing table. He tapped Quinston/ shoulder and slipped on the other side of the green-eyed boy. Jin giggled as Quinston looked to the wrong side and then the other before his questioning face lit up. Jin glanced to Melissa, who also seemed to recognize him.

"Kai!"

"Hey Quinston," The new boy said with a smile.

"Can you explain-"

"It's nothing. We were told to 'mingle' so I thought I'd come say hello!"

Melissa laughed. "Who uses 'mingle' anymore?"

"Kai" glanced around before leaning into the table. "You-know-who does, apparently," he said with heavily-restrained humor as he failed to withhold a smile.

Jin had no idea what was going on, so he decided to bust into the conversation anyway.

"Quinston, i salam-i nugu-ibnikka? Geuga delyeo gangeoya? Wau, geuneun gwiyeobgi ttaemun-e." (I'm so sorry for butchered Korean. I don't speak if I used Google Translate) fs39

Kai stared at him blankly while Melissa and Quinston both rolled their eyes.

"Jin, how dare you. You know no one else speaks Korean!" Quinston immediately scolded.

Jin just grinned.

Sarah was nervous. She knew that Ichiro knew she was here. Adam knew he was here. Melissa was here. This was the worst possible mix of people to be here at this moment.

Adam's serious gaze bored into her, and for a moment Sarah was scared he might have figured her out.

"We need to see what they're up to. Come on. We both know Lawrence isn't much help," the dark-haired man stated with a nod in their boss's direction. Paulina was doing... something... and hadn't seemed to even notice the large crowd of Speros.

Adam took her hand with his strong, slim grip, before hesitating and resorting to waving his hand with blushing cheeks. Sarah felt her own cheeks heat up in the chilly air and followed her co-worker to confront her partner.

Ichiro looked up from his eggnog to see the two Everston teachers approaching him. While he knew Sarah was more or less on his side, her male co worker was most certainly not. Ichiro didn't let nervousness get to him.

"May I help you?" His perfectly smooth taunting voice that he had practiced for years.

"We know who you are," the man stated. His shoulders were squared and his fingers were poised to cast and control a spell at any moment.

Ichrio smirked. "Do you? I'm sure you've heard of me, sure. But I don't believe I've met either of you personally." He would save Sarah's betrayal to this man for another time, if her ambitions didn't first.

"Give is one reason we shouldn't call the police right now," Sarah's voice was level but not as hate-filled as Ichiro would have liked for her to sell her act.

"You haven't even given me the name of who you accuse me to be. And besides, my children and I have done nothing here but purchase some food from your fundraiser and socialize. Now, unless you really are prejudiced against us Ciphers, I see no reason to arrest anyone, hm?"

The male hesitated. A shame, Ichiro thought to himself, he was doing so well in holding his own. But it seems he cares about either himself or others just a little too much.

The man sighed and stepped back with a burning glare. Sarah moved out of Ichiro's personal space as well.

"For today, lets have a truce, shall we? Just for once, let's not let anything get in the way of us enjoying ourselves," the dark-skinned woman suggested.

Ichiro was not expecting this proposal, but he found it strangely satisfying. "Alright then, I agree. Why don't you two sit then? Let us talk as equals."

Kylie regretted sassing Jax Kollman for being bored and complaining about manning the food table at the Winter Formal. No one was around and the warm cookies were so tempting... But thus was the life of a Cipher in this world. She sighed.

A branch snapped behind her.

Kylie spun around to see what could have made such a large sound, but there was nothing there. She glanced back at the conversing people before grabbing a knife, meant for cutting the brownies, but would work for self defense as well.

"Hello? Someone there?" She called. There was a shift in the leaves and Kylie gripped her knife tightly in front of her in that direction.

The leaves crunched again and there was frustrated whispering from behind a tree.

Kylie wasn't scared, but not courageous either. She had done some bad things but that didn't mean she didn't regret them. She didn't want to hurt anyone, but she wasn't about to be kidnapped while manning the bake sale table either. They wouldn't care about some Cipher girl. I need to protect myself.

She stepped around the tree and saw a boy her age frozen there with his eyes squeezed shut. Kylie immediately lowered her knife.

"Are you alright?"

"P-please go. Leave me alone. I-I just want to go home." Kylie was not expecting this kind answer in the least. He seemed as scared as she had been, although she has no idea why.

"Well, I might be able to help you-"

"No. It's fine. I'm fine. I was just heading back. Please, leave."

Why does his voice sound so familiar? Kylie could swear she had heard this boy before. But she didn't recognize the black hair or the bulky hoodie, and his eyes were clamped shut so she couldn't see his eyes. She slowly back away, glancing at him one last time before returning to her table and wondering what just happened.

Kai was busting his gut laughing at Quinston's and Jin's exchanges in foreign languages. Quinston took Latin as a language class in school to expand his magic abilities, and Jin was half Korean so he learned it from his parents. Kai has no idea what they were saying, but their reactions and Melissa's confusion were completely worth the risk of exposure and drama.

"Dangsin-ui nun-eun gajang budeuleoun ikkiwa gatseubnida. Naneum halu jong-il geudeul-ege nuwoiss-eul su iss-eossda."

"Tu scis quia non capit VIII minutes in sole ad Terram pervenire?"

"Dangsin-ui meolikalag-eun gajang buyu han chokollisgwa gatseubnida. Naneun geugeos-i un-ideul geos-ilago hwagsinhanda. Yeoleobun modu. Neon nae ligeueseo neomu ppajyeoiss-eo..."

"Ego nescio dicere voluisti, sed sonat vox tua nutibus. Et per istum puerum puer raptus, fo."

"Darn you!" Jin suddenly exclaimed and slammed his hands on the table. "Neomu neuj-eoss eo!"

Kai jumped as Melissa burst into laughter and incoherent words. Quinston raised an eyebrow and the bluenette that was technically his sister raised her hand from under the table, revealing it to be glowing that aqua color of her's. The two Magiclica boys looked at the magic, then her face, and then the pink-haired onesie flustered while Quinston looked unimpressed.

"This is a new kind of eavesdropping," the green-eyed wonder complained.

Melissa shrugged. "You're talking to a sound manipulation Magiclica, what do you expect? Now, do I tell Kai over there?"

Jin spewed our more Korean. "NO!"

Kai rolled his eyes and sighed. He had a feeling he would never know what happened in this conversation.

And so, for the first time since the creation of the Spero fifty years ago, Ciphers, Magiclicas, and Spero got along peacefully. Most of the civilians had no idea the significance of their small talk. Spero members had, for the first time since they joined, a normal conversation and enjoyed it without worry.

As the leader of the Spero and the Everston authorities talked like responsible adults, they found that maybe some of their goals and ideas were not so different. Their ways of reaching them were as far apart as could be, but overall they were able to have a civilized talk. The principal eventually came over and recognized Ichiro as one of the student's parents, although she could not remember who. This concerned the two teachers, however because Principal Lawrence was Principal Lawrence she found nothing out of the ordinary.

The time for the fundraiser ended. And as the normal civilians started to leave, the Spero were left awkwardly alone. The normal members trickled back to heir hideout and the more experienced disappeared to guide the lesser members or hide in case of backup. The last student was packing up the baked goods and seemed to notice the questionable actions of the strangers, although she said nothing about it. The Spero leader looked at the Cipher girl before casting a spell and the remaining food put itself into the containers.

"Until we meet again, Miss Canaday, Mister Foley, Principal. I enjoyed our conversation. However next time, I fear things will be back to how they were." The two teachers nodded while their superior looked confused. Ichiro stood up from his seat and without a glance back walked into the surrounding trees. A portal appeared and he was gone.

And hence ended the truce.

This could be a lot cleaner if I had just chosen a POV but naaaahhh it's just all over the place XD

I like the idea of this?? It doesn't really make sense for how characters would actually react but it's a nice thought lol

Also, I'm not translating Jin's and Quinston's foreign language. Welcome :D
