Chapter 7

"You're kidding, what is this?" Nanoha asks, still in a daze of fear and confusion. "Nanoha-chan, you have to snap out of it. If what Yu- the talking ferret says is true, you're probably the only one who could successfully deal with this monster." I reprimand to her with a tone of authority. "I'll distract it and-" The monster immediately blitzes past me and completely ignores me for once, this time turning its focus completely on Nanoha. "Nanoha-chan!" I shout. Reflexively, she extends her new magical staff forward in front of her. "Protection." A mechanical voice sounded, releasing a force field that collided with the impact of the monster.

In this collision, the monster is the one on the losing side, being forced back by the magical force field of Nanoha's staff. The monster is thrown back, giving the three of us a brief moment of rest. "Our powers, called programs are magical equations that are embedded into executors." Yuuno says, beginning to explain how magic in this world works. "The casters mental energy is needed to execute those equations." Yuuno adds onto his explanation before turning to the monster that is already regenerating from Nanoha's previous attack.

I see, the power system of this world is different from the world that I came from. Magecraft comes from magical circuits which are either genetic or randomly occurring in a select few lucky individuals or they're rewarded by higher beings, such as the certain Mapo Tofu priest. "And that is a thought entity created under an ominous power. To stop its activity, you need to seal it within the staff and turn it back to its original form." Yuuno says, instructing to Nanoha about what to do next.

From what  Yuuno is saying, this monster is actually being corrupted by something and has gone berserk. The staff is probably what's required to seal whatever is causing the creature its current berserk state. Would that mean that Caladbolg wouldn't have worked on the monster even if I did unleash it? "I still don't get it, what am I supposed to do?" Nanoha asks to Yuuno. "Just like what you did earlier, basic movements such as attacking and defending will happen just by wishing for them. However, to use magic that requires a higher level of power you need spells. You just need to open your heart. Your own spell should come to your mind from your heart." Yuuno replies to Nanoha's question.

Is he being for real!? A mystic code that's equivalent to artificial intelligence is something many mages from my world would want to make their lives much easier. It's almost like playing a video game and hacking into it in order to give yourself a larger advantage. It's literal cheating! Aren't I supposed to be the isekai protagonist? What about my cheats!? Mimi and Suzuka lied to me about the isekai genre, and I demand a refund! It almost sounds as if Nanoha was the protagonist. What next, is Nanoha going to be able to fly into the air like an anime magical girl? If Illya were here, she'd by crying in jealousy. What? I have a reality marble and all the skills and experiences of Archer? I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. I demand my isekai cheats. Raising Heart is much more agreeable and obedient than Magical Ruby.

As the monster fully regenerates itself, it once again charges in the direction that Nanoha is standing at. Nanoha began to concentrate and follow Yuuno's instructions, searching for a spell. I projected another pair of twin swords and stood in front of Nanoha to guard. Nanoha opened her eyes with a resolute expression, stepping forward she placed her hand on my shoulder and revealed a soft smile. "Thank you, for being here and protecting me, Kuro-chan. However, I won't sit back and let myself be the damsel in distress any longer. If I can fight, then I will. Even with the secrets that you're carrying, I still want to be strong enough to fight by your side and have you look at me as an equal!" Nanoha declared.

Stepping to the side, I gave a wry smile to Nanoha. "You don't have to be so dramatic, Nanoha-chan. If you want to get stronger, then get stronger. If you want to fight, then fight." I say with a wink. "I want to see how awesome you can be."

Instead of blushing, Nanoha replied with an affirmative nod of confidence. "Umu!" The monster once again began to clash against Nanoha's magical force field. "Lyrical, Magical." Nanoha announces the beginning of her spell with English words. "What needs to be sealed is the ominous container, the jewel seed!" Yuuno shouted to Nanoha as a reminder. "Seal the jewel seed!" Nanoha shouts as a command to her magical staff. "Sealing mode. Set up." The staff responds in its mechanized voice. Multiple bursts of mana shoot out from Nanoha's staff before they each land on different parts of the monster. The mana proceeds to constrict around the monster, causing it to roar out in pain. A glowing symbol of roman numerals appear on the forehead of the monster at that moment. "Stand by, ready." The magical staff, Raising Heart declares once again.

"Lyrical, Magical. Jewel Seed, Serial 21." Nanoha says as she prepares her magical staff. "Seal!" Nanoha shouts. "Sealing." Replies Raising Heart. The monster is pierced into several parts from the mana used by Nanoha before the monster disappears completely into thin air, leaving only a glowing stone remaining in its place. "This is a jewel seed. Touch it with Raising Heart." Says Yuuno. The jewel seed is drawn into towards Raising Heart, flying right at its direction. As the jewel seed absorbs into Raising Heart, it announces, "Receipt number, 21."Nanoha's outfit begins to change back into her normal casual clothes and the barrier formed around the block also disappears. I deactivate my Archer mode and my outfit also returns to a casual one.

"Hey, guys, is it over?" Nanoha asks. "Yes, and it's all thanks to you." Yuuno replies. "Seriously, thanks..." Yuuno's words begin to trail off as he loses consciousness and falls onto the ground. "Wait, are you alright? Hey, wake up.... Wake up!" Nanoha shouts desperately to the ferret, kneeling down next to it before police sirens begin to sound in the distance. "Maybe... it's not a good idea if I stay over here?" Nanoha muses to herself with a nervous smile. "Right, not unless we want to explain things that we shouldn't talk about. Let's go, Nanoha-chan." I tell her. She nods and we both begin to run away. "Gomenasai!" Nanoha shouts to nobody in particular.

Eventually, we make it far away enough from the area that we arrive at the park. The same one that I woke up in when I first came to this world, and also the same place where I had walked home with Nanoha and her friends after school. Panting and out of breath, Nanoha finds a bench to sit on and I take a seat right next to her. "So, this must have been that little mission that you told me all about, am I right, Yuuno-kun? If I had known the Jewel Seeds were that dangerous, then..." I ask with a raised eyebrow, turning to the ferret.

"I know, I'm sorry. I thought that since I was the one who made the mistake, I had to be the one to make things right. Even for an experienced mage like you, it still didn't feel right for me to involve you." Yuuno admitted apologetically to me. "Mission? What do you mean by that, Kuro-chan?" Nanoha asked. "Does it have something to do with why ferret-kun is in bad shape like this? And about why we have to seal away the Jewel Seeds?" Nanoha adds to her question. "I'll let Yuuno-kun be the one to explain that, right?" I reply before turning to the ferret.

"Hey, wait, I know you've mentioned his name already Kuro-chan but could we introduce ourselves?" Nanoha says, turning to the ferret. The ferret gave a nod in affirmation. "I'm Nanoha Takamachi. I'm in third grade. My close friends and family all call me Nanoha." Nanoha says, introducing herself with a warm smile. "I'm Yuuno Scrya. Scrya is my clan name so Yuuno would be my name." Yuuno replies. "I think it's a cute name!" Nanoha praises.

"I'm sorry for getting you involved in all of this, Nanoha." Yuuno says once again out of guilt. "Well, I think I'm okay." Nanoha reassures to Yuuno. "Oh, that's right! Since you're hurt, we can't exactly relax here, can we? You can tell us about your mission and everything else later when you feel better, Yuuno." Nanoha says. "Lets just head to my house for now. We'll figure out the rest later, okay?" Says Nanoha. "That sounds good to me too." I say with a yawn. "We still have school tomorrow after all, and if we do more missions, we need to be at one hundred percent."

"Umu!" Nanoha lets out in agreement. Just like that, the three of us made our way back to the Takamachi household. Nanoha attempts to enter the house from the front door, though I could already tell that this probably wasn't going to end well. "Okaeri." A male voice sounded from beside us, I turn to see Kyoya approaching us startling Nanoha. Then again, what exactly was she expecting when she ran out of the house without much of an explanation?

"Onii-chan?" Nanoha replies with a nervous and suspicious attitude, placing Yuuno right behind her back to hide him from her brother. "And where did you wander off to so late?" Kyoya asks, narrowing his eyes first at Nanoha, then at me. "Kyo-nii, Nanoha-chan just ran outside for no reason. Alas, I tried to stop her but she refused to listen, but as her friend I was worried about her and followed her anyways. Yare yare, she's quite the handful sometimes but she's my closest friend. I can't just let something happen to her." I answer, wiping the nonexistent sweat off my forehead with an exaggerated sigh.

"Kuro-chan!" Nanoha shouts, appalled about the fact that I would immediately throw her under the bus while simultaneously making myself sound good in the story I described, which I only replied by sticking out my tongue provocatively. "You're quite the smooth talker, aren't you Kuro-chan? I'm worried about how many people will be wrapped around your finger in the future." Miyuki Takamachi says with a playful smile, approaching us from the opposite side where Kyoya Takamachi came from. "Oh? And who's this? He's super adorable!" Miyuki points out, craning her neck to find the ferret that Nanoha was hiding behind her back. "But it's not very cheerful, is it? Nanoha, did you go there because you were worried about it?"

"Well um...." Nanoha attempts to formulate a response. "Well, I understand how you feel. Still, you can't just run of without telling anyone." Kyoya lectures to Nanoha. "Come on, it's alright! At least she made it back safe and sound. Besides, Nanoha, you're a good girl. So you won't do something like this again, right?" Miyuki interjected into the conversation. "Well, um... Onii-chan, I'm sorry I made you worry by leaving the house without telling anyone." Nanoha apologizes, giving a bow as she does so.

"Right..." Kyoya sighs, crossing his arms. "Okay! That settles everything!" Miyuki says, clapping her hands once expressively in conclusion. Miyuki then heads over to Nanoha, Nanoha handing Yuuno over to Miyuki. "This animal is super cute! Wouldn't mom roll around in panic because it's so cute?" Miyuki asks, inspecting Yuuno even further. "I wouldn't deny that possibility." Kyoya remarks. It's a good thing that nobody else knows Yuuno's true form. After a few minutes of conversation, Nanoha and I say our goodnights and show Yuuno to Nanoha's parents. After making arrangements for Yuuno, we head back to Nanoha's room for the rest of the day.

Yawning, I immediately enter the bed, Nanoha sinking in as she enters right next to me. "Goodnight, Nanoha." I mutter. "Night, Kuro." Nanoha says with a soft smile on her face. "Hey, Kuro?" Nanoha asks. "What's wrong, Nanoha?" I reply to her. "Tomorrow, or, if you have any free time, when you're training can I join you this time?" Nanoha requests. "I see, so you want to grow stronger. I don't see why not." I reply with a shrug, extending my hand over to pat Nanoha on the head. "Don't pat my head, you're only a year older than me!" Nanoha pouts, though she doesn't actually remove my hand. "Hai, hai." I reply with a tone of fake exasperation.

I turn from the bed, finding Yuuno asleep on a basket on top of one of the drawers. It seems we'll have all the time we need to discuss the more important things tomorrow.
