Chapter Two

Throughout the few days that I have been here at Hogwarts, I found myself very introverted and hiding out in the library, reading as much as I could.

Professor McGonagall had tried to get me to communicate with her, but I stayed quiet, my nose buried in a book. However, it was pretty difficult to read with my dyslexia, but I persisted, trying to get a grasp of the new world I was in. It was probably a strange sight, seeing a five-year-old girl sitting in the corner of the library, a book sprawled across her lap, and the girl squinting at the pages, trying to figure out what it was saying.

The words jumped across the pages and I huffed with frustration.

"What's wrong Allie?" A familiar voice asked, startling me from my thoughts.

My head whipped around to see a familiar mop of red hair and kind blue eyes.

I blushed shyly, "The words keep moving around," I whispered.

"That's some complicated stuff you're reading huh?" The much taller boy commented.

I nodded my cheeks burning.

It seemed like the shyness that dominated most of my childhood had returned to me.

"Want me to read it for you?" The redhead asked me.

I nodded again and Charlie scooped me up into his arms.

"Charlie!"

"Shhhhhhh!" The scary looking librarian hissed at us, sending us a dirty glare.

"Sitting at a table isn't fun or comfortable, we're going to the Gryffindor common room!" Charlie whispered to me as he picked up my book.

Laughter escaped my lips as he rushed us to a painting.

A lady was in the frame and was practicing her opera.

"Quidditch," Charlie said interrupting the dying cat sounds.

The lady huffed at us but swung open allowing us into a cozy looking common room. A roaring fire greeted us and stuffed armchairs looked worn but inviting. The entire room was just filled with crimson and gold.

Charlie plopped us down on a couch near the fire and opened up the book.

"Hi Allie," Eila greeted as she came over to us, "What are you doing?"

"I'm hurt Eila, don't I get a greeting?" Charlie asked dramatically.

"Hello Charles, how are you doing on this fine evening?" Eila's monotoned voice replied, making me grin.

"I'm good!" Charlie replied cheerfully, "I'm about to read to Allie, you can join us if you want,"

"Sure," The pale girl said shrugging, "I'm down to do just about anything, I'm so bored! What are you going to read? The Tales of Beedle The Bard?"

Charlie shook his head, "Nope, we're reading," He paused to check the title, "Hogwarts: A History?"

They both turned to stare at me, "Why are you reading this?" Eila asked me.

"Because it was the first one I found," I told them.

"Alright, let's read it then," Charlie said giving me a smile. "And then later maybe we can read a fairy tale or something,"

I nodded as Charlie began to read to me. After a little bit, my eyelids began to droop and I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up in Minnie's quarters (I can't really say Minerva yet). She was sitting at her desk and grading papers, her gray-streaked hair was out of its usual tight bun and I saw her mark a D on someone's paper.

I climbed out of my bed and slowly made my way over to the Professor. A pair of fuzzy footie pajamas hung on my small frame, and I tugged on the woman's robes.

Her lips drew into a small smile as she caught sight of me.

"How was your nap?" She asked me.

"Good," I mumbled sleepily.

"Do you want to eat a little?" She asked me quietly.

I nodded, trying to rub the sleep from my eyes.

"I've sent a letter to someone who I think would be a suitable guardian for you," The woman told me, "He's going to be here in a little bit so you can meet him,"

I nodded, "But, I don't wanna leave Charlie, and Eila, and Dora, and you," I protested.

"You can still visit," The woman promised me.

I nodded as the professor summoned a meal for me.

"Here you go sweetheart,"

"Thank you," I said softly and sat down to eat my dinner.

I ate about a third of the portion before declaring that I was full and she gave me a worried look.

"Are you sure that you're full?" She asked me.

I nodded my stomach heavy from the small portion.

McGonagall nodded and swished her wand making the tray of food disappear.

"Remus should be here soon," My Grandmother figure murmured, and a few seconds after she uttered those words, the fireplace crackled, flames rising and turning an emerald green.

I hid behind my caretaker and a man stepped out of the flames.

His hair was a sandy shade, and soft green eyes with amber flecks greeted me.

"Hello Professor," The man said, his voice tired.

"Remus, I'm not your Professor anymore, you can call me Minerva," McGonagall told the man softly, "Lana, this is Remus Lupin, Remus, this is Alana,"

"Hi," The man greeted me crouching down to be at my eye level.

He offered me his hand and I took it hesitantly.

"Hi," I said softly, not meeting his eye.

"Why don't you two get to know each other?" McGonagall suggested.

We nodded and I led the man to my little bedroom that was connected to McGonagall's.

We sat on my bed in silence for a few minutes.

"So, Alana, what do you like to do?" The man asked me, his soft voice breaking the silence.

"I like to read," I told him, "But it's hard,"

"I like to read as well," He said, giving me a gentle smile, "At your age, I wasn't good at reading either. How old are you? Four?"

"Five," I corrected him.

"Wow, aren't you getting old?" He said warmly.

My adoptive parents weren't the nicest people. Who am I kidding, they hated me with a burning passion. They were always smoking drinking and every chance they got they tried to hit me. No one ever knew, I'm sure that Jason suspected, but I hid it pretty well. I'm sure that they cheered with joy when I found Percy, Sally, and Camp Half-Blood. I haven't seen them since, good riddance!

But Remus seemed nice, he just had that kind of feel. I felt safe around him, his presence was comforting, warm, and just nice.

"Do you want me to tell you my favorite fairy tale?" Remus asked me.

I nodded and he smiled.

"Well, it's a muggle tale called Beauty and the Beast,"
