Another World In And Of Itself
"Watch your step here. Don't want you to fall. I'm afraid the board is a bit lose. I really must get that fixed." Newt whispered as he led you down a dark staircase.
You stumbled forward as Newt kept a firm grip on your arm. You inhaled sharply as you made your was down the stairs and into a small, dimly lit, room.
"I know it may not look like much but I can assure you that it's full of surprises," Newt stated as you eyed the shelves, lined with colorful bottles. You tuned back to Newt and smiled as you shook your head. He stared at you in fear as he shrugged off his coat and draped it over a desk chair.
"I think it's amazing!" You whispered as your fingers trailed over the spines of leather journal and worn books.
"I...Really? I mean...Thank you..." Newt stuttered out as you laughed lightly and peered into a few of the bottles.
"Where are we, exactly?" You asked curiously as you turned back around. Newt rubbed the back of his neck, nervously, as you stared at him, expectantly.
"Well...um...we're inside my...case. This is my...um...my...workshop," Newt replied quietly as you wandered around the small room, your eyes alight with curiosity, making him smile weakly.
You hesitated as your fingers ran themselves over a brass doorknob. Newt held his breath as you stared at the door. Your hands shook as you grasped the doorknob and pulled it open quickly.
Sunshine filtered into the small space, illuminating you as if you were standing in the middle of a spotlight. Newt bit his nails nervously as he stood behind you. Holding your breath, you stepped out of the small shed and into a entirely new world.
"Newt? Where are we?" You asked in complete disbelief as you turned slowly, taking everything in. Newt stepped out of the shed behind you, carrying a silver bucket. He sighed as he stared up at the sky.
You followed his gaze as your eyes landed on a giant winged creature. Your mouth fell agape as you stared up at the silver bird. You couldn't believe it.
"Newt? Is that a-" You began before you cut yourself off form shock.
"A Thunderbird!" Newt whispered as he walked up to the creature and set a steady hand on its golden beak.
You turned around just as two large creatures ran past you, sending you stumbling backwards. Newt gasped as he rushed to catch you in his arms. Your breath hitched as you fell back into his waiting embrace.
He helped you to you feet as you stared around you in shock.
"Um...I can explain that...you see...um...after I got expelled...I...I decided to study magical creatures..." Newt mumbled shyly as you nodded slowly.
"So...you're a...you're a Magizoologist?" You asked unsurely as Newt stared back at you in confusion.
"I...well...I don't know...I..." Newt stuttered out as you laughed weakly. He smiled shyly as he rubbed the back of his neck, making you smile back at him.
"A Magizoologist is someone who studies magical creatures. So yes, you are a Magizoologist," You replied making Newt smile as he offered you his arm.
"Well, Ms. Black, if I am the expert you say I am, then may I have the honor of showing you around?" He asked nervously as you stared at him shyly and took his arm.
"Why of course you may, Mr. Scamander!" You replied, laughing.
Newt smiled again as he began to lead you through his case. Your eyes flickered from one creature to another in amazement as you smiled in utter shock.
"Where would a creature go, who likes wide open plains and sunshine?" Newt asked as you stood next to him, staring out at an empty savannah like, enclosure.
"I don't know. Perhaps to a park?" You asked quietly as Newt turned towards you, with a sudden urgency.
"Yes! Yes! Of course! Do you know where the park is located?" Newt asked excitedly as he stared at you, expectantly. You nodded as he smiled brightly.
"I think I can tell you where to find it. I pass it on the way to work," You added quietly as Newt smiled again.
"Excellent! We must leave as soon as we can! Let me just get Pickett back," Newt exclaimed urgently as he grabbed your wrist and pulled you through hundreds of habitats, filled with the most incredible creatures you had ever laid eyes on.
He pulled you back towards his shed, stopping in front of a skinny tree. You peered closer as Newt coaxed Pickett out of the top pocket of his vest.
Bowtruckles scampered up and down the branches of the tree as you watched in amazement and amusement. Newt smiled as he watched your face light up with curiosity. He fingered Pickett delicately as you continued to stare at the stick like creatures.
Newt lifted Pickett up towards one of the branches as the Bowtruckle clung to his fingers in fear. The terror was present on the small creatures face as it shook its head rapidly and clung to Newt tightly.
"Come on Pickett! Back to the tree!" Newt coaxed as Pickett continued to resist, making you laugh lightly.
"The others won't bully you! That's nonsense Pickett!" Newt exclaimed as he immersed himself in conversation with the small creature. Pickett shook with fright as he let out a small sneeze.
"You can't still be ill! Now get back in the tree! The others will accuse me of favoritism!" Newt insisted as the Bowtruckle continued to shake his head.
Newt sighed heavily and finally tucked the creature back into his top pocket. He smiled apologetically as he led you back into the dark shed.
"I...um...I...would you like to...I mean would you come with me? To help me find my creatures I mean?" Newt asked as he paused halfway up the staircase.
"Of course...but...how...how are we supposed to leave when your friend-" You began before he cut you off.
"Tina? She's not my friend! I don't even know her!" Newt shouted angrily as you pulled back in fear and disbelief. Newt shook his head and looked away, ashamed. He sighed and bit his lip sadly.
"I'm sorry...I...I didn't mean to raise my voice...but I would still like it...if you would come with me..." Newt mumbled.
"It's alright. But how are we going to leave if they've locked us in the room?" You asked as Newt continued up the stairs and pushed open the top of the case.
"I think I've got an idea!" Newt smiled as he climbed out of the case.
