Chapter 19

Things were tense in the Miller's house the next day. Everyone was basically avoiding each other as they each tried to sort out everything that was going on. It seemed that they had reached rock bottom.
Charlie decided to go outside and shovel the snow off the driveway. Lucy came out to talk to Charlie, hoping to help a bit.
     "Hi, Charlie." She said, quietly.
"Hi, Lucy." Charlie tried to be nice to his little sister. He knew that she had nothing to do with what was going on; she didn't even know.
"What are you doing?" She asked, innocently, hoping to keep him calm before she asked her real question.
     "Just shovelling."
"Charlie, I think that Uncle Scott might be Santa Claus." Charlie stopped shovelling and turned to look at her. "And Sissy might be one of his elves."
     "What makes you think that?"
"Just a lot of things. Why do they both look so sad today?"
"What makes you think they were sad?"
"Well I asked Uncle Scott to stick a straw in his nose and blow bubbles and he said no. And then Sissy said she wasn't hungry and left and I think I saw her crying."
"Whatever." Charlie said, not knowing what else to say.
     "Can you talk to them?"
     "I don't think so Lucy."
     "Did you have a fight?"
     "Sort of."
     "Are you gonna make up?"
Charlie remembered being Lucy's age and asking his sister a lot of questions. It made him more upset because now Rose would never get to see Bernard again. So it was getting more and more frustrated by the minute.
     "I don't know!"
"Are you gonna be mad forever?"
"Lucy, these are really hard questions!"
"No they're not! They're easy! And you can't be mad at Uncle Scott forever! He's your dad and you love him! And Sissy needs you! You need to talk to her!"
Then she left, leaving Charlie to ponder what she had just said.

Sometime later, Lucy was playing a game of Go Fish with Scott and Rose was reading a book with her earbuds in, playing Evanescence, when there was a knock at the door.
Lucy was the one to go and answer it. At the door was what appeared to be a boy a little older than her. "Hey. Is there a Rose or Scott Calvin here?"
    "Who are you?"
"I work with them at...in Canada."
    "Why are your ears pointy?"
"Um...because I didn't eat my green vegetables. Do you eat your green vegetables?"
Lucy felt her ears before turning around. "Uncle Scott! Sissy!"
At that moment, Scott and Rose came in from the other room to see Curtis standing at the door.
    "Curtis!"
Rose ran to hug him. Scott explained that Curtis worked with them and shooed Lucy away so Rose and Scott could talk to Curtis.
    "What's up?" Scott asked.
As soon as Lucy was well and truly out of earshot, Curtis burst out, "The Toy Santa and Toy Rose have both gone completely out of control! Toy Rose locked up all the elves, they both think everyone's naughty, and Toy Santa's GONNA GIVE THE WHOLE WORLD COAL!"
"Why didn't Bernard come to tell us this?" Rose asked, worried.
"Cuz Toy Rose put him under house arrest!"
     "Bernard?!"
"The two of you need to come back with me to save Christmas!"
"We can't!" Scott said. "I'm out of magic!"
"And the little that I have won't get any of us there!"
"Didn't you take Comet?" Curtis reminded Scott.
Getting hopeful, the three of them raced to the yard where a very fat Comet was lazily lounging, surrounded by candy wrappers.
"Well he's not getting us anywhere." Rose observed.
     "Your jetpack?" Scott suggested.
"It kind of burned up on re-entry."
"What am I supposed to do? Grow wings?" Scott asked desperately.
"Dad, you're brilliant!" Rose said. "Tooth Fairy!"
They all rushed off to get things ready.
                            * * * * *
After a few tries, even with Neil's help which resulted in Scott tumbling down the stairs, Lucy came in, telling everyone that she had lost a tooth and asking if she should put it under her pillow. All of them said yes.
Within minutes, everyone except Scott, Rose, and Curtis were asleep. They crept into the hallway by Lucy's room to wait for the Tooth Fairy. Soon enough, he arrived. Scott grabbed him by the wing and led him into the hall, Curtis catching the door.
At that moment, Scott was brought to his knees by a spinning kick that came out of nowhere. Rose grabbed the other guardian's shoulder, "Delia, we're not here to hurt Tooth Fairy."
Delia grabbed her hand and pried it off. Immediately, the two began to fight, Rose throwing a punch that caught Delia off guard. Red and golden blond hair flew as they fought, eyes locked on each other, hazel on violet.
Tooth Fairy was the one who stopped it. After Scott convinced him that he was Santa, he stopped Delia who had grabbed Rose's throat. He whispered something in her ear and her eyes widened.
    "Rose? Oh I'm so sorry!"
She hugged Rose who immediately hugged back. Once the situation had been explained, Tooth Fairy offered to fly Santa while Delia offered to fly Rose. Curtis would stick with Santa. Soon enough, the three were at the Pole, dropped on the balcony of the workshop.
Rose turned to her father and best friend. "I'm gonna go rescue Bernard. You guys stop Toy us."
She hugged them both then took off running.
                            * * * * *
Rose made it to Bernard's house with little to no incident. The door was, unfortunately, locked. She banged on the door, screaming Bernard's name.
"Snowflake?" She heard from inside the house.
     "B, open the door!"
"I can't. They put some sort of spell on this place. No one can get in...or out."
Rose bit her lip in contemplation then she remembered. "Wait. I have an idea!"
     "What?"
     "Just trust me."
Summoning up the little bit of magic that Bernard had put in reserve for her, she concentrated with all her might and motioned to the door. The magic overcame her and the door blew off its hinges, leaving a hole where the door had once been. Bernard, who had, luckily, been sitting a few feet from the door, appeared in the freshly blown open hole.
     "Snowflake, you did it!"
He raced over to hug her, a kiss soon following. "Sorry about your door."
"Don't worry about it. We have bigger issues."
Rose nodded. "Let's go save Christmas!"
    With that, they rushed off.
                           * * * * *
"Shouldn't we just go through the workshop?" Curtis questioned his boss.
"No. Every knows that you take 'em by surprise."
Scott opened the door only to find a bunch of toy soldiers waiting for them.
