Chapter Thirteen: Lana Rickman: Shit?

Jade climbs up the house and, to be honest, I'm scared for her. I know I've been kinda mean to her, but I really do care about her. Anyway, she climbs up and I attempt to give her a thumbs up. It doesn't really work because I have to restrain Snapdragon. She's really hurt, she might've broken something, and she's trying to jump into the action. I know she does this for a living, but she can't do it right now, not while she's hurt.

"Snapdragon, stay down!" I tell her as I struggle to keep her on the ground.

"Must...help..." Snapdragon keeps on struggling against me and I realize something.

I can't keep her here forever. I need to get her healed. I take her to the Blackwells', see if I can find some of Ally's cousins or something.

"Snapdragon, I'll let you help, if you come with me," I tell her.

She stops struggling and looks up at me, "How long will it take?"

"Not too long," I lie, biting my lip. I pick Snapdragon up, ignoring her protests, and begin to carry her to the Blackwells' hospital. Once I get close I hear somebody yell.

"It's the runa—" I don't stay to listen to a mob start, and instead charge into the building and put Snapdragon down in the waiting area. I quickly find a chair and put it under the doorknob, keeping us safe for now.

"Lana? What are you doing—," Ally's younger brother, Ellen, looks over at me but stops talking when she sees Snapdragon.

"She did something to herself, I wasn't there, but it looks bad. Also, the mob outside, they're after us. Did you hear the assignment," I explain. Ellen trusts me so she takes the key out of her pocket and locks the door for me.

"Put her on this," Ellen says, carrying a stretcher over. I do as she says, seeing as she's the expert, and Snapdragon, finally, doesn't resist. Ellen and I grab the ends of the stretcher to carry them into an examining room. We put Snapdragon down on the examination table and Ellen feels Snapdragon's foot, giving me a look.

"What did she do?"

"I don't know, I wasn't there,"

"She only sprained it, originally, but she must've tripped because now it's broken," Ellen says.

I look over at Snapdragon, "Did you trip?"

"I think so. Now, let's go!" she tries to stand up but her foot can't hold her anymore. She falls on the ground and can't get up.

I put her back on the examination table, "Snapdragon, you really do need healing, at least a cast," I tell her seriously.

She doesn't even bother to argue this time as Ellen leaves the room. She runs back in after a little bit with a cast. She locks the door, breathing heavily, "The...mob..." she doesn't need to say any more.

I immediately look for a window or something to jump out of, but find nothing. I hear the door get knocked on very hard and can tell it will be knocked down soon. I need an idea... I stop thinking and have an idea. My little 'family talent' as everyone calls it, is that I can change my outfit and others outfits, including shoes, hair, and accessories. I know it doesn't sound useful, but it is now. I quickly change my hair and outfit to match Ellen and change Snapdragon's hair to curly brown, rather than the usual straight blonde, and wink at Ellen and she yells at the mob.

"I'm doing doctor business so get out!"

"The runaways are here though,"

"GET OUT!" Ellen screams at the top of her lungs. I hear everyone in the mob sigh before moving on to harass the other doctors. I wait until I can't hear the mob anymore before speaking.

"Thanks,"

"No problem," Ellen says, finally putting the cast on Snapdragon.

"We should stay like this, for a while, until it's safe," I say, changing my outfit to something casual. My new hair should be enough of a distraction.

"She can't run, sadly, but she can walk now," Ellen tells me.

"I'll make sure she only walks," I lie, biting my lip again.

"We need to go help Ja—," I cut Snapdragon off.

"The mob, remember?" I remind her.

She nods before carefully getting off the examination table.

"Thanks Ellen!" I say, opening the door and leaving with Snapdragon.

We walk out to the lobby, luckily without bumping into the mob, who are probably looking somewhere else.

"Okay, now we can go find Jade," I tell her. "But please don't do anything too rash—" she bolts out the door anyway.

"Goddammit! You'll make your foot worse!" I call after her, but she doesn't listen.

I bolt out the door after her, but unfortunately the mob comes. They bolt out the door as well, surrounding me quickly, and clearly not falling for my disguise. I kick some of them in the chest, drawing blood and possibly cracking ribs. A man grabs a bag and nods a woman and boy who couldn't be much older than me. I try to dive out the door but the man puts the bag in front of me, and I dive in stupidly. The woman pushes my legs in and ties the bag. I kick, refusing to be easy to capture, and I hit someone. The someone moans and I smile, satisfied with my work.

"Shut up, son. We have to get her to her majesty," the woman snaps.

The person I kicked, who I know now is the boy, moans a lot more quietly as the family (I think) carries me somewhere, probably to Leila for the money. I hear them open a door and feel them put me down somewhere. I feel my surroundings and shriek when the ground starts to move.

"Shut up," the woman tells me.

I stay quiet, and focus on figuring out where I am. I'm moving, up? Well, they're taking me to Leila so they're taking me up to the cloud, in a helicopter or something probably. It takes about a minute before the vehicle lands and my bag is grabbed. The bag is dragged through cloud, which isn't very painful, but when we go up to the door the ground changes to a hard and cold material, marble.

"What have we here?" a familiar voice asks. Cassandra.

"N-No," a small and high voice whispers, whimpering.

Daisy? Please, please let that not be Daisy.

"Silence, slave," Emira says, most likely glaring at the speaker.

"Your majesties, we present one of the Rickmans. We believe this is one of the ones you are looking for," The bag opens, from the bottom, and I fall out and onto the floor.

Emira gives the family the money and dismisses them. They back out respectfully, and I hear someone stifle a giggle. I would have giggled as well, but I know better.

"Lana!" a voice exclaims.

I look up and see two people tied up and Ginger! One of the people gives a faint wave, and I realize it's Ivy. The one who said my name is Jade.

"Lana?" a smaller voice asks.

"Yes," I say, looking over and seeing Daisy tied to a huge boulder, but still able to walk.

"What did they—" I start to ask Daisy, but she hushes me.

"New day, new slave," Cassandra says as her sister laughs maniacally.

Emira hands some strong rope to Cassandra who I kick in the shin before she does anything. I hear a crack and smirk. I broke it. Cassandra hands the ropes the Emira who quickly ties my feet up with the rope which is tied to the rock before I do anything else. Then she ties my hands together and, from the way Daisy looks, all that dust and blood all over, I realize just how bad this is. The worst part, I think, is that we're tied to the same rock.

"New slave, retrieve the book," Emira says, placing a book near the entrance. Cassandra has been moved and now sits on her throne, beside Evie's (technically Leila's right now but...). I patiently wait for Emira to release me but she doesn't.

"Now!" Cassandra tells me.

Oh. Really? You're not going to, at least, get me off the fucking rock you bitches? I sigh and start to walk over to the throne, which fails because of the rock. I know better than to moan so I keep on trudging forward, falling over every so often. I fall over for what feels like the twenty billionth time (it was more like the tenth), I feel blood start to drip out of my nose. If I keep this up I could break it! I realize. The trudging continues, and eventually Daisy begins to be dragged with me.

She doesn't bother helping, and I assume she's just too tired. She is really young after all. As the trudging continues yet again and I hear something from above. Something quiet. Some chatter. Some whispers.

"Can we...you..."

"Yes...if...have..."

"We're...though...have..."

"I...but...free...it..."

"I'll...it...free..." eventually the whispers become too quiet to comprehend, and I ignore them, although I know where they're coming from. They're coming from Ivy and Jade and someone else. I don't bother looking up, because I'm still trudging.

I'm almost there though, so I start to army crawl. Blood drips onto the floor and onto my arms and face, but I don't care. I used to, but after Lily's stupid idea I...Wait. Lily's idea. That's what started all of this, I realize, but I doubt that it's important. It actually is a little easier to army crawl, somehow, and I move a little faster. Daisy falls on the rock as I push and I cringe, hoping she doesn't break anything, I hear a quiet moan and quickly check behind me. Daisy's nose has started bleeding again, and it's dripping on our rock, but nothing too bad. I keep going and reach the book. Grabbing it I throw it back in Cassandra's direction. She fails to catch it and the corner hits her in the nose. Bulls-eye! The corner hurts even more than most books because, as luck would have it, it was a hardback. Cassandra whines as the blood starts to drip out of her nose and I smirk. And you said that a bleeding nose was nothing. HA! I stifle a giggle and stand up.

Emira walks over to me, fists clenched, and I look for something to throw. I grab my scissors (I work at a fashion store) and chip away at the rock. A small piece quickly comes off and I grab it. Emira notices and stops walking.

"Keep going," Cassandra says, a red tissue by her nostrils.

Emira sighs and keeps walking. I raise the rock into the air and throw it, hoping to hit something. It hits Emira's eye and I gasp, putting my hand over my mouth. Blood gushes from the injury, staining the white marble floor crimson, a pretty shade, and with the blood coming from a Savvy, it's too good to be true.

"MY EYE!" she screams at the top of her lungs.

Unfortunately, Leila chooses this moment to walk in and she looks at her bloody daughters. She walks over to Cassandra and whispers something. Cassandra whispers something back and the three Savvys turn to glare at me with all five of their combined eyes (because Emira just lost one). Shit, I think, unable to run because of the rock. I look over at Daisy, who has fainted in shock. She is only six so the sight of...that obviously has an effect on her. I'm still looking at Daisy when Leila starts to walk over to me. Oh shit. Now I've done it. She's going to fucking kill me.
