Chapter Ten: Holly Sparks: Preferably Alive

I would give you a flashback on why Cassandra is holding my neck, but I'm too busy trying to plan an escape, so too bad. Fuck explanations. Fine. I'll give you the basics. Basically, I went to go save my sisters and then Cassandra grabbed my neck. Okay, Emira did it first, but she handed me to Cassandra who's not taking it well. Anyway, Cassandra is holding my neck and my older sister Kendall's, while Daisy in running away at who-knows-where. We all caught up? Good, because I'm not repeating.

"K-Kendall," I wheeze.

Kendall doesn't answer, she just hangs in Cassandra's grasp.

"N-No. Kendall. S-Speak,"

"She's unconscious. You'll be too," Cassandra says bluntly.

I don't think she's very interested in being menacing right now. Standing while holding two people's necks for half an hour probably makes you bored.

"I'm gonna go help Emira," she says aloud to herself. She finds a chandelier and enchants it so it wraps around Kendall and I's necks. However, instead of holding us separately it holds us back to back.

"Have fun!" Cassandra exclaims before laughing maniacally and leaving.

"Bye," I mutter.

"H-Hol..." Kendall wheezes, unable to finish speaking the word, but I can see her shift.

The chandelier has a less tight grip than Cassandra and it seems like Kendall is becoming conscious again.

"Kendall, we're stuck on the chandelier in the hall by the stairs. Any ideas?"

"Wha—? What happened? Wait—where's Daisy?" Kendall asks frantically, fidgeting against the chandelier's grasp.

"Daisy's safe. Please, for once worry about yourself. And me. Worry about me too," I tell her.

"But Daisy's so young and naive—"

"Kendall. Daisy's safe. Not now. Let's worry about ourselves," I say sternly.

"She'll get hurt..."

"WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF FOR A CHANGE!" I yell at her.

"Okay, okay, you don't need to yell. So, we're hanging from a chandelier. Wait—WHAT DID YOU DO!"

"Nothing. The Savvys just hate us. It's called life, Kendall,"

"Is now the time for wisecracks?"

"No."

"Then start thinking of a way to save our fucking lives!"

"I'm thinking, god."

"This is anticlimactic."

"What?"

"It means that it's doing nothing helpful."

"Oh, then yeah. Anyway, maybe you should shake a little more. It kinda helped earlier," I suggest.

"And then fall onto the floor and break my leg!? No thanks."

"Death or broken leg, pick one. Besides, Ally's family can fix it."

"Fine. Why can't you just do it again?"

"Because I told you to do it," I say through clenched teeth.

"Alright," Kendall says before the chandelier begins to shake.

I can feel her slide down my back as she shifts herself, over and over, slowly going down. It doesn't take too long before I hear a thump.

"Ow."

"You okay?"

"Yeah, except I think I twisted my ankle."

"Better than a broken leg. Now come help me."

"Just shake yourself."

"The chandelier's grasp just got tighter, it's hard enough to talk!"

"How?"

"When Cassandra enchanted this thing she must've also enchanted it to change its grasp. I can feel it getting even tight—" I say, getting cut off as I have to use all my energy just to breathe.

"Holly!" I hear Kendall yell worriedly.

I don't answer. I can't risk losing even one breath, for it might be the last thing I ever do. I close my eyes, which makes it easier to focus on breathing, and wait for Kendall to do something.

"What do I do?" Kendall yells. I moan in reply.

"Okay, she can't answer. I'll get a rope," she says aloud. I feel the chandelier's grip get tighter as I begin to hyperventilate.

"Grab it!" Kendall yells. She must've found a rope quickly, which is good.

I can barely move my hands but Kendall throws the rope right to them and it's really easy to grab. I keep on hyperventilating, but I can feel more air come in. I close my eyes again, still holding the rope as tightly as ever, until I feel myself fall.

"Ow," I moan quietly, keeping my eyes closed.

"You okay?" I hear Kendall ask worriedly.

"Yes, but it hurts," I tell her, opening my eyes and sitting up.

"So you can walk?"

"I think so."

"Take it easy. No running from danger."

"Okay. Also, why didn't you just use some of our messenger powers like, I dunno, going fast?"

"I didn't know if it would do something to the enchantment. I didn't want to risk that, and I find it risky to use those little powers in the first place!"

"Let's just go," I say, standing up to open the door.

"But it's dangerous..."

"Daisy's out there. I know I said she would be safe, but now she's in more danger than we are. We have to get there before the Savvys," I open the door and walk out.

"I'll come," Kendall says, tripping on the doorframe and quickly righting herself.

"You don't have to. It's dangerous,."

"I know. But like you said, Daisy's out there."

"Okay, but it's not my fault if something happens to us," I say, not wanting two of my sisters' lives to be on my shoulders. One little life is too much already. We walk out into the street and I look both ways, trying to remember which way Daisy went.

"I think she went to the right, to the middle of the city," Kendall suggests.

I groan. The middle of the city! Come on, Daisy! You know better than that! I turn right regardless and we walk towards the center of the city. In the center of the city, there is a empty space where the stairs to the castle appear, if somebody is using them.

"I'll check the center area, you check the nearby houses," I tell Kendall.

She nods, even though she would normally ignore me, and goes into the nearest house. I begin to survey the crowd of people in the middle of the city, not seeing Daisy among them at all. I begin to walk among the crowd and see some familiar hair. Hair that I've seen a lot of recently. Savvy hair. I duck behind somebody and whoever the person is, he or she doesn't notice me.

"ATTENTION!" somebody yells.

I turn around and quickly hide again. It's Leila. Not the twins, but Leila.

"There are some runaways among us, I will list their names. The Petersons. The Rickmans. The Callas. The Sparks. The Zanikis. The Blackwells. A Shadow and a Leaf. That is all the names. If you hide any of these people or refuse to show them to myself or my daughters than you shall be sentenced to a life time in our prison. However, if you find one or more of these people and bring them to myself or my daughters then you shall be given one thousand sapphyris. For each runaway. Preferably alive but if necessary, dead."

The crowd oohs and ahs at the thought of that much money.

"Also, not everyone in those families are runaways so these are the runaways' pictures," Leila pauses to turn on something, which shows our pictures!

I gasp when I see my picture along with my siblings and parents, but quietly rejoice when I realize Jade's not up there.

"Now, get to hunting those runaways!" Leila cries, interrupting my thoughts, and the crowd begins to leave.

I run with the crowd, hoping not to be seen, but keep my eye out for Daisy.

"PUT ME MMFF!" someone cries. Worried that it might be Daisy, I leave the crowd to examine it.

"It's one of the runaways!" someone yells. "Let's get her!" Dammit! I run from the crowd, who clearly wants the money, and luckily for me Leila left already. I sprint inside the nearest house and shut the door, locking it and putting a chair under the doorknob.

"What are you doing Holly?" Kendall asks from behind me.

"Leila's got rewards on us. Dead or alive. She may have said preferably alive but still dead is a possibility."

"How big is the reward?"

"A thousand sapphyris. Each."

"Shit," Kendall mutters.

"There's a mob outside. They saw me," at this Kendall curses again and I roll my eyes.

"What should we do? Oh yeah, I just remembered, I heard somebody get gagged, but as I left the crowd to examine it I was seen so I ran in here," I say.

"Was it Daisy?" Kendall asked worriedly.

"I hope not,"

"I want my money!" somebody in the crowd outside yells. I look over at the door and see a small hole that the mob has poked into the door.

"There are two! Two thousand sapphyris!" another person in the crowd yells. The hole in the door gets bigger as more people in the mob attempt to break it down.

"We need to run!" I tell Kendall.

"I know that, but where can we run to?"

"I don't know!" I yell as the chair is knocked to the floor.

We begin to back up the stairs and the people outside become more aggressive with their door destroying. In seconds flat the door is on the floor and the mob runs inside. I run up the stairs with Kendall and we back up to a window, the mob gathering around us. How do we escape! I can't be captured again, especially with Daisy still out there, I think to myself, as I yell for help.
