Chapter Nine: Ally Blackwell: Searching For Holly

I know letting Snapdragon leave was a bad idea, but she can be pretty stubborn. So we all just watch the distance as Snapdragon zooms away, to get those creatures. I know she's tough but there's a dragon. Dragons breathe fire. People die because of fire. Does she not understand simple logic!? Okay, I know her job is to go after mythical creatures, but I remember her parents getting into some pretty nasty situations, so I know she's not invincible.

Anyway, we continue watching Snapdragon until her silhouette merges with the dragons. I turn away and we continue down to the ground.

"Holly!" someone shrieks.

"Daisy?" Holly asks, confused.

"Yes! Help me!" Daisy (probably) yells.

Holly jumps off her little breeze and starts falling to the ground.

"Catch her!" I yell to Nari.

She nods and Holly's breeze shoots down, making it cold for a second. It misses Holly just barely and she hits the ground, luckily landing on her feet.

"Holly! Come back!" Lily yells, but Holly either can't hear her or doesn't care as she runs towards Daisy's (yeah I think it's Daisy) cries.

"We need to find her!" Lana exclaims.

"I have an idea. Nari, you stay up here. Everyone else will search from the ground," Jade says, being helpful and not fainting for once.

Everyone nods and everyone but Nari jumps off of their breeze, at this point being close enough to the ground it's safe.

"I'll check Holly's house," I say, running towards the center of the city where Holly and her family live. I watch all the houses zoom by as I run down the road and arrive there. I stand on the front steps and peek through the window. I see Daisy kicking at Cassandra who hits her hard on the back. Daisy cries as blood drips through her shirt and Kendall grabs her, fury in her brown eyes. She grabs Cassandra's neck but Cassandra kicks her off before grabbing Daisy's neck.

"One wrong move and I'll squeeze her neck. Until she dies," Daisy squeals and pulls on Cassandra's hands but they don't move.

Kendall doesn't move, scared of Cassandra's threat. I watch Holly go down the stairs silently and pounce on Cassandra. She wheezes and jumps up, blood dripping all over.

"You'll regret that," Emira says, grabbing Holly's neck and gesturing to Cassandra.

Cassandra squeezes Daisy's neck as Daisy kicks her in the chin. Startled, Cassandra lets go, and it's then that I realize I've been staring in the window like an idiot, doing nothing. I see Nari and Lily and usher them over to the window. Nari stays on her wind while Lily shares the steps with me.

"D-Daisy," Holly wheezes as she struggles in Emira's grasp.

"Holly!" Kendall yells from her spot on the ground as she stands up.

Daisy runs over to Kendall but Cassandra grabs Kendall's neck.

"I've had enough of you," Cassandra tells Kendall. Kendall wheezes, attempting to breathe unsuccessfully.

"Kendall! Holly!" Daisy squeals before running to our door and leaving.

We move out of sight from the window but not before Emira glances over.

"The other girls are out there!" she exclaims as she hands Holly over to Cassandra and bolts out the door.

I don't see what happens next as I'm running as fast as I can

"Why do I feel like the past few days have been nothing but running, and being tied up?" I ask Lily, who's beside me.

"Probably because that's what has been happening," she says, starting to sprint even faster.

I can feel Emira breathing down my neck as she catches up so I look up to Nari who's still riding a breeze.

"Grab my hands!" she yells to Lily and me, not having time to making little breezes for us.

Lily runs to the left a little bit so that she's on Nari's left side rather than her right and jumps up. Nari grabs her hand and reaches her other hand out to me. I grab it for dear life and jump off the ground as I fly higher and higher and higher.

"If you drop me, I'll kill you," I threaten Nari as the city gets smaller and smaller.

Nari gulps, probably realizing that three people, including herself, are depending on her. We continue to fly up and Lily screams soon after.

"I don't think Snapdragon stopped those creatures! They're coming this way!"

I stop looking up at Nari and look forward. She's right. The creatures are all coming towards us.

"Nari, are you paying attention!? There are dragons and creatures and such coming to KILL US!" I yell at Nari.

"I'm too busy keeping you up! It's difficult to turn and look when you have to keep two people from falling to their deaths!" she yells back as I scream.

The dragon is breathing in quite loudly. I know enough about dragons from talking to Snapdragon to know that when they breathe in like that they're going to breathe fire.

"FALL!" I yell.

"WAIT. WHAT! ARE YOU INSANE!" Nari yells.

"I'M TRYING TO SURVIVE!" I yell. "THE DRAGON IS GOING BREATHE FIRE! SO FALL!"

Lily nods before letting go of Nari's hand. I follow her as the dragon exhales. Nari shrieks and I look at Lily.

"She's not falling, is she?" I ask as we hit the ground, bruised, but fine.

"No," she replies, scared for Nari.

"I'M COMING!" Nari yells from above. Blackened from being scorched, but not harmed, Nari flies down on her breeze and meets us. "Let me check 'nearly escaping death' off of my 'things to do in life' list."

"Really, Nari. You're covered in ashes, now is not the time for jokes," I say, chuckling a little.

"Yeah. It hurt, a little, but I'm alive."

"And burnt."

"Does it matter?"

"Yes! It does fucking matter!" I say, sighing. "Just forget about it though, until it gets worse." Nari nods and I look up.

"It's coming back. What did you do to it?" I ask.

"I hit it with a lightning bolt," she says with glee as Lily's eyes go wide.

"YOU MADE IT MAD!?" she screams.

"Yeah,"

"MAD CREATURES ARE MORE DEADLY AND DANGEROUS THAN NEUTRAL CREATURES!" she yells. Since she is a vet I figure she's right.

"Good job, Nari. Good job," I say sarcastically.

"I had a split second to do something. You would've done the same."

"Actually I would've just left. Like a normal person," I say coolly.

"There's still a dragon coming," Lily reminds us.

"Right. Nari, just...fly away from it this time," I instruct.

Nari makes two more breezes for Lily and I, and we fly back up. She probably feels really bad right about now.

"Where should we go?" she asks.

"How about my house," I say.

"Okay," Nari says while Lily screams again.

"IT'S INHALING! ONCE IT EXHALES WE'RE DEAD FUCKING MEAT! FUCKING DEAD!" I look over at the dragon and can tell it's inhaling.

"FLY NARI! FLY FASTER THAN YOU'VE EVER FUCKING FLOWN BEFORE!" I scream.

So she does. I can feel the wind against my face as Nari flies us over to my house. In a few seconds we've landed in front of the door and I gape. The door isn't really a door anymore. There's a huge hole, big enough for a person, right in the middle. I slowly step through the hole, with everyone else in tow, and we survey the room. Everything is completely smashed to smithereens and there's blood. Everywhere. If this was a movie, the music would not be playing. There would be no sound. I slowly walk up the stairs and have to skip a few missing ones. The upstairs looks even worse than the downstairs somehow. I think everything was smashed into microscopic pieces because I can't see any pieces. I can tell my parents put up quite a fight and they haven't returned. I hope they're safe, wherever they are.

"It's—It's all gone. Everything," I say without emotion as I hold back my tears. I walk into my parents' bedroom and see something. On the ground, by the door, there's a speck of dust.

That's it.

Five seconds later, we hear thumps.

"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?" Lana yells from behind us.

"Long story. Involves some twins. They have reddish hair. They're also bitches," I say, turning around to look at her. Jade's also there, she just didn't yell.

"Oh. Why is Nari covered in ashes?" Lana asks calmly.

"Dragon,"

"A DRAGON!?"

"Yeah. She struck it with lightning," Lily chimes in. "Then it tried to set her on fire and she was luckily only scorched."

"I can talk, you know," Nari says.

"I know. We were just doing it for you," I say coolly.

"Where did you find that?" Jade asks curiously.

"This is all that's left of the upstairs," I answer sadly.

"What if we gave it to Ivy? Could she fix..." Jade doesn't finish her sentence, but I know what she's trying to say.

"She could fix it, once we free her," I say.

"Let's go then," Lana says, starting to walk downstairs.

"What about Snapdragon?" I ask.

"She's dealing with the dragons and creatures so we'll meet up with her."

"She's not. The creatures are coming," I inform her.

"Oh. So where is she?"

"I don't know, but we'll hopefully find her soon," I say. "Now let's go."

Everyone follows me out the door as we trudge out.

"Nari can fly us up on breezes, hopefully without last time repeating. Hint hint," I say, glaring at Nari.

"What about Holly?" Lily blurts out as Nari starts to create breezes for us. "We left her with the twins and..." her voice trails off and I stare in horror.

"We did leave her! Shit!" Oh fuck no. This can't be good.
