Chapter Fourteen: Holly Sparks: Rescue Plan B

Kendall and I can't find Daisy. We've pretty much given up on the idea of her being down here even. We've decided she's at the palace. And neither of us is happy about it.

"Do we have to?" I complain. I really don't want to go back to the palace. Really badly. To put it simply, it's asking to die, and I, like most sane and normal people, don't want to die.

"Do you want a younger sister?"

I sigh, "Yes."

"Then you have to," Kendall says in her bossy big sister voice.

"You don't want to either, do you?"

Kendall looks at me and rolls her eyes, "What do you think?" she asks sarcastically.

"Quit the sarcasm, and let's get to work," I say without answering. I'm about to go look for a ladder when I remember something. I can fucking fly! I mean, I know I can fly, I just never do it. "You've flown with mom and dad, right?" I ask Kendall.

"Once, that was when I broke my arm, remember?"

I shudder.

"The trick is to control your speed," Kendall instructs as I try to figure out how to fly in the first place.

"How do I get into the air?" I ask.

"You need to move your arms like this and jump up," Kendall demonstrates the arm movement, and I copy it.

"Perfect. The jumping is pretty self explanatory, but I'll demonstrate not breaking any bones while flying right now," Kendall says, taking a deep breath. She circles her arms and jumps into the air, and once in the air she leans so she's on her stomach. She does the circles again to go up, and moves her arms to her side as she tilts to turn. While she's not doing the circles she slowly goes down but I watch her lean forward and go down faster. She doesn't lean so much that her head hits the ground first, but she does end up with a lot of dirt on her shirt.

"Considering that was your second time, that was really good," I tell her. "But is there a less dirty way to land?"

"Not that I know of; I know Mom and Dad know of a way but they're unreachable right now," Kendall says sadly. She nods to me and I gulp.

It's my turn! I make the arm circles again and jump up, jumping higher than I ever have before. When I realize I'm starting to fall, I have to lean forward onto my back quickly and do the arm circles again. I start to go up and see a tree, since we're on the outskirts of the city, and panic.

"Turn left!" Kendall yells from behind me. I tilt my body away from the tree, but I'm too close. My right leg explodes in pain and I start to fall as it goes limp. Kendall runs towards me, but I can tell she won't catch me. My eyesight slowly fades as my body hits the ground, and my whole body explodes in pain. I can barely hear Kendall's worries, as my consciousness drifts away.

"Holly? Holly? Are you a—YOU'RE AWAKE! Cinnamon, she's awake," Kendall's familiar voice slowly brings me back to consciousness.

I begin to sit up and inspect my body for injuries, but Kendall forces me back down.

"Rest, you need rest, Holly," she insists.

"How bad are my injuries?" I ask Kendall.

"Uh," she stops to consider how to put it, "you're alive."

"And?"

"Bloody."

"And?"

"That's it," I look at Kendall. Her mouth twitches.

"You're lying."

"Fine. Your ankle has been sprained,"

"That's bad because?"

"I dunno. You can't walk?"

"So?"

Kendall's about to make a comeback involving being a worried sister but someone interrupts her.

"Good, you're awake," a dog looking very similar to Ginger peeks over at me, examining my wounds. "You're good to go, but be careful on that foot because I put an ankle wrap on it," she (I think) nudges my right foot and it explodes in pain. Not a lot of pain, but I cringe.

"Who are you anyway," I ask, sitting up without being restrained by Kendall.

"I'm Cinnamon," the dog says, "Ginger's mother, and I have two other children. Clover, Ginger's sister, and Juniper, her brother," she nods to the two other dogs behind her, who perk up in turn. I stand up slowly, testing my weight on each foot, and start to leave the cave.

"Wait—why are you in a cave?" I ask, having just realized that I had been in a cave.

"When Leila took over I escaped with my puppies, not counting Ginger, and we found this cave and have been living here ever since," Cinnamon replies. I nod before grabbing Kendall's hand and leaving.

"What do you say to people—errrrrrr dogs—who help you?" Kendall asks me in a patronizing bossy big sister voice.

I roll my eyes at her and turn around, "Thanks."

"You're welcome," Cinnamon replies, waving us off with her paw, which is really adorable by the way. I walk out (finally) and Kendall follows behind me. I stretch and ask Kendall,"How long was I knocked out for?"

"Not too long," she replies.

I give her a look.

"About a day."

"ABOUT A DAY!" I explode. "A DAY IS A DAY THAT DAISY COULD HAVE FUCKING DIED ON! OR SOMETHING EVEN WORSE! MAYBE DAISY WENT FUCKING INSANE TODAY AND IT'S ALL MY FAULT!"

"I couldn't leave you," Kendall says in a small voice.

"I only sprained my ankle."

"It doesn't matter now, let's just go," Kendall says.

I sigh. She is right, I tell myself.

We walk out of the woods and back into the open. Kendall and I circle our arms and we're not as scared as last time because last time we checked there were no trees in the sky. Anyway, I jump up and begin to soar, still circling my arms to get high enough for the cloud. I want to do a loop de loop, but sadly, I don't know how yet. We soon reach the cloud and I try to hover, which fails.

"How do you hover?" I whisper to Kendall.

"You kick your feet together, not necessarily loudly, and to stop hovering you kick them together again," Kendall whispers back.

We both kick our feet together and survey the cloud. There's not anything going on on the cloud, but the door appears to be closed. I kick my feet together again and get onto the cloud. Kendall does the same and we slowly walk over to the door, careful that we don't fall through the cloud somehow. We reach the door unharmed and I look at the handles, trying to figure out if they're booby-trapped or locked. They don't appear to be booby-trapped or locked, though I'm holding my breath, and I slowly pull the door open. Luckily, I find a hiding place for Kendall and I after I see Cassandra and Emira leaving with Leila and someone else. They're dragging the other person along, and when the person looks up I panic. It's Lana! I look over and see Daisy tied to a boulder, tears falling down her small and angelic, yet bloody and dirty, face. I want to rush over to her, but Kendall stops me just in case the Savvys come back. She looks up suddenly, probably after hearing something I didn't, and I do too. I see Jade and Ivy hanging together and Ginger hanging on her own. I also see a painting and I think it's Evie's. Jade looks down and sees us, urging us forward with her hands. She can't exactly move her hands very well but we get the message and walk forward into the room. I immediately run over to Daisy and try to figure out her shackles.

Rrrrrip. Putting Daisy on hold, I look up again and see Ginger's rope has started to rip. I can hear Ivy crying from above and debate whether it's worth it to fly over and risk both Ginger and I's lives. It doesn't take too long before the answer becomes obvious. Duh. It's worth it, it's the only way Ginger has a chance at surviving. Plus Ivy would fucking kill me if I didn't.

Rrrrrip. I don't have much time. I start flying over to Ginger when the rope snaps. Kendall flies over quickly and I hover under Ginger. I catch her, but the sudden weight pushes me down. Kendall comes around and we both carry Ginger up and out. Once Kendall, Ginger, and I on the ground Ivy stops crying, but her face is still red with tears.

"I'll get Daisy, you get Jade and Ivy," I instruct Kendall.

She nods and flies up while I walk back over to Daisy. I inspect the shackles on her hands and feet and can't figure out much. I grab my knife (Snapdragon gave Lily, Lana, Ally, Nari, a few others, and I a knife for emergencies) and hack at the shackles on her feet, which fails. I try to pry at the little chainlinks holding them together and it works. Daisy now has two metal circles around and against her legs, and I really don't want to get them off. I mean, I do, but my only method is very likely to involve drawing blood. I start prying at the chainlinks in her hand shackles and they come off just like last time. The metal circles are still around her arms so I look at her.

"I might have to draw your blood, but it'll be to save you. Can I trust you to keep quiet?" I ask her as I hear Kendall touch down with her first girl behind me.

She nods firmly and it's in this moment that I'm remember why I'm glad she's my sister. I carefully begin to pry the rest of the shackles off of Daisy's feet. I take the first one and slowly cut, at first stopping every time Daisy flinches, but then giving up on that and ignoring her flinching. Once I have the first one off I survey the amount of blood I've drawn. It's not too much, but I check on Daisy anyway.

"Are you okay?" I ask her. She nods.

"It hurts a little, but I'll stay quiet. For you. For us. For everyone," I smile at her, my eyes filling up with tears as I begin the second shackle.

I hear Kendall touch down with the her second girl and the three of them, plus Ginger, come to check on Daisy and I.

"Almost got 'er," I tell them as the second shackle on Daisy's feet comes off.

I quickly move to her arms, not wasting time worrying about Daisy's blood by this point. As I pry off the first hand shackle I notice Kendall out of the corner of my eye. She's putting bandages on Daisy's legs and explaining the situation to Ivy and Jade. I finish prying off the first hand shackle and move on to the second as Jade starts to tell us some things that we don't know.

"Have you been wondering where Lily, Ally, and Nari are? Because you really don't want to know. You do, but you don't. Know what I mean?" everyone nods and Ivy pipes up.

"But where are they?"

"On a dragon's horn."

"A WHAT!" I whisper exclaim as I finish with the final shackle.

"A dragon. They're tied to its horn."

I hear some voices and panic, "We need to hide," I say, interrupting everyone. "We can get Lana soon, but not right now." I tiptoe run out the door and everyone follows. We walk away from the door and stand against a wall.

"Let's dispose of her," I hear Leila say through the wall.

"Shit. We have to go back for Lana," I whisper. Everyone nods but Ivy.

"I'll go save the others with Ginger. Kendall, do you want to come?" Kendall nods and helps them off the cloud. My group of three walks back in the building only to find Leila standing there, smirking.

"Loyalty will be your demise," she says. Before we can run she levitates us into the air and throws us into some nearby bags. We've been captured. Fucking again.
