Chapter 3

POV Viola

I sat on the soft sand and played with the grains of sand between my two hands.

My blue dress was wet because of the water that reached my bare feet. My black hair was wet, and my blue eyes watched the sunset and the water that joined the celebration of the shades of the sun and the sky.

"Viola" I heard a voice calling to me. I looked back and noticed my little brother.

He was only three years old, but he was so beautiful, his eyes were as blue as the sea, just like Our mom.

I got up and held out my hand. We walked along the beach, our feet sinking in the sand.

"Here you are, I thought that sharks preyed on you" my father joked.

He wore his baseball cap, he was always crazy about baseball, and so was I.

"That smells good," I said when I saw a slice of fried meat on a barbecue.

"I really hope you're hungry," he said as he turned another piece of meat.

"Definitely," I said with a smile. I turned to the dining table to write in my sketches book until the food was ready.

Painting is one of my favorite things in the world.
Since I was a little I drew. In the beginning, there I draw all kinds of fantasies and irrational things, and then it progressed into something else.

I love to draw still life, landscapes and people, especially people, people who have an interesting story.

It is interesting to see in the painting how the shades of color, even monochrome makes everything look different; everything is a matter of color and point of view.

In the past few days, I have painted the ocean a lot. Especially the waves, not natural waves, but fatal ones that want to destroy.

"Viola" I heard my father say. "The food is ready," he shouted again. I closed my sketchbook and walked toward my father.

He handed me a plate of meat and rice. I turned to the table while I saw my brother, Tommy, quarreling with my father about the amount of food he had given him. Eventually, Tommy gave up and sat next to me.

"Not fair," muttered to me. My father sat down opposite me and we began to eat.

"So Tommy, did you know any new friends?" My father asked curiously. Tommy took another bite of the rice and then replied, "Yeah, Ron and I played football yesterday."

"Sounds nice, and what about you viola?

"Excellent" I answered and ate the last piece left on my plate.

"I'm glad to hear that. I have good news, too" my dad said and Tommy and I stopped eating, waiting to hear his news.

"I was hired to work in a new restaurant," he said. My father was unemployed for quite some time, so it was a good announcement. I got up quickly to hug him.

"Dad is wonderful," I said, hugging him.

"Yes," Tommy replied, joining the embrace as well.

"I'm glad you're happy," my father answered with a smile. We finished eating and then Tommy and I went to play at the beach.

I helped Tommy build a palace in the sand, in the middle of construction he asked me something, that we usually try not to talk about the subject.

"Hey Viola, do you miss Mom?" He asked, and I could hear the sadness in his voice.

"Always," I answered with a sad smile.

"Me too," he replied.

"Hey, don't be sad, she's right here," I said, putting my hand on his heart. Our mother died a few months ago.

I don't know how much Tommy remembers, but I feel like my memories are disappearing day by day, I'm not supposed to be happy, but it's encouraging that I can't remember everything, because then I feel less of the pain.

On the other hand, I don't want to forget details about her. After more building, Tommy got tired and went home. I turned to the water.

I put one foot in the water, felt a slight tickle, then put the other down, felt a tickle again, or rather a gentle caress in my legs, which quickly passed to the rest of my body.

After a moment the caress became a kind of current, or a sort of twist that swirled inside me.

I felt strange, something unfamiliar that was flowing through my body and wanted to break out. My hands shook.

My eyes saw only the blue sea, which after a moment dimmed because of my vision that it did not show up.

I closed my eyes, felt a stream of water running toward me, and opened my eyes. I saw a sight I'll never forget.

The clear water I had been in before was now deadly, deterring and dangerous, the other the shore filled with cold water and flooded with great waves.

I ran quickly to my house, only when I was in a safe place, I looked at the sea.

There was no longer a beach, there was no longer the beautiful palace that Tommy and I had built, leaving only an ocean.

It was as if something had taken over my body, something strange and illogical. Just like supernatural power.
