The fires of Idirsholas
The knights of Medhir. Just what I needed to go up against. I hope you all are taking note of the strong sarcasm I am using momentarily.
Of course I had heard legends of these knights. I heard that they are ruthless and will follow the person that wakes them into the pits of damnation itself. They are supposed to be nearly impossible to stop. If they ride again, the kingdom is as good as overthrown.
I grab Morgana's wrist as she tries to sneak off into the night. At a time like this...anything could happen. "Morgana, please don't go. You could get hurt." Her expression softened and she sent me a small smile.
"I will be fine Ari. You have my word." Hesitating for but a moment, I let her slip away. Why did I let her slip away? I am such an idiot! I knew I messed up vastly when I awoke in the morning. A huge wave of magic seemed to be seeping through the kingdom like an oil spill. Drowsiness set in.
I had to get help. I mounted my horse, spell book in hand. Come on. Please. Anything. I barely made it out of the city awake. Now that I'm out, I feel slightly better. But not by much. I feel as if though I might collapse any minute now.
"Ari, what happened?" I was brought into focus by Merlin's voice. I needed to tell him something...I'm just...so tired.
"Come on. What happened?" Arthur's hand landed on my shoulder. Right, focus!
"Back at the castle...people started to feel sick. It just spread and spread. E-Everyone's *yawn* asleep. It has to be magic."
Merlin's p.o.v:
Arthur and I exchanged a glance before looking back at Ari. I had never seen her so disheveled, and judging from the look Arthur gave me, neither has he. Her silky blue-black hair was unbrushed and tied back into a messy ponytail. Dark circles lay underneath her eyes and it looked as if she hadn't slept in days. And she was swaying slightly, almost as if she was going to fall off her horse. Worst of all, Ari seemed to have forgotten about the magic book in her lap. With a flash of gold, it closed shut.
"Here, have some water. Maybe it'll wake you up." She nodded at my suggestion.
"What about my Father and Morgana?"
"I-I don't know. I left as soon as I had my suspicions of magic."
"Don't just sit their Merlin, let's get a move on!" I nodded before taking the book out of her hand. My fingers momentarily brush hers and she seems slightly more aware. Key word: slightly. Arianna seemed better for quite a bit, that is, until we re-entered the lower towns.
Wow, she wasn't kidding. Everyone was asleep. Except for us. And Morgana...but that doesn't make any sense. Arianna's known about her magic for way longer and she's used it way more. How come she was also affected? Even then, how do I explain it to Arthur?
I could practically feel Arianna's eye roll as I try to explain. The sarcastic comment waited patiently on the tip of her tongue. A sarcastic comment that I will never hear.
Back to Arianna's point of view:
I grabbed one of Uther's legs and started the journey. Merlin's right. His legs aren't the problem. I could tell it was taking all of Merlin's will not to laugh. Unfortunately for him, Arthur also noticed.
"This is not funny Merlin! Did you find the potion?"
"Uh...no." And he never will. It doesn't exist. Uthur plopped onto the floor and I leaned against the wall, trying to stay awake. I probably sound like a dying dog. So much for being royalty...
I laughed slightly as Merlin grabbed too pillows before stopping. They seemed like everyone else did...tired. Sick.
"We could disguise him." Merlin suggested and Arthur seemed to have a moment of realization.
"That might just work!"
"We could dress him like a woman !" I burst into laughter again and practically fell over. I think the lack of sleep is making me mental...oh well. Morgana and I were left alone as Arthur and Merlin went off.
Apparently tired Merlin is the smartest Merlin. I wish if I could say the same for myself. I tend to get dumber. And Arthur appears to be the same. It is the only reasonable explanation for him to want to take on the magical undead knights alone.
I let out a cry as Morgana fell, desperately crawling away from the knights. What is Merlin doing ? I have a choice. Help Merlin or let my sister die. How am I supposed to choose between those two impossible options?
I move towards Morgana before the knight freezes, looking her over. It walked past her like she wasn't present at all and kept going for Merlin and I. I retreat to help. What else could I do? My magic can only do so much in my exhausted state. I let out a shriek as the sword nearly collided with my shoulder. It would have if it weren't for Arthur. All four of us barricaded ourselves in the throne room. In my opinion, Arthur's plan to lower the king with a torn up blanket is utter rubbish.
Morgana voiced all of our thoughts. Arthur is as good as dead if we don't do something. Morgana and I tore up the blanket nonetheless.
I watched in horror as she started to choke and hyperventilate. I looked up to Merlin and it looked like he was crying.
"Merlin, w-what did you do?" He let out a sob.
"I -I had to." Before I could process the betrayal, Morgause burst into the room. It went by so fast. The spell being broken. Everyone waking up. Morgause using magic to escape, both me and Morgana in tow.
