24. Out of Town
+++++
Finally Magnolia could get away from Forks. She and Elton planned a short trip to Seattle and she knew when Elton pitched the idea, he was trying to take her mind off of what had been plaguing her mind for the last few days.
"Are you almost done, slowpoke?" Magnolia called to Elton from the front seat as he stuffed the final bag into her little trunk.
Elton laughed loudly. "It's not like this could've gone quicker with your help, Ms. Princess!" He slammed the trunk and made his way to the passenger seat. "Ready to go?" He smiled as he buckled up.
Magnolia nodded happily. "I can't wait to get out of this god-forsaken town." Turning the key, the car roared to life and she pulled out of the driveway. It was silent in the car, up until they finally left Forks.
A sudden wave of relief came over Magnolia and she sighed loudly, then laughed. "Damn, does it feel good to finally be gone!"
Elton stared at her for a moment, before laughing himself. "Fuck you, Forks!" He shouted, flipping off the town sign. Magnolia smiled as she gave him a large high five. Elton returned it with as much energy. "It's nice to see you smile." He quipped.
Magnolia suddenly became aware of the fact that she had the largest and stupidest smile on her face, but it still didn't go away. "What can I say?" She shrugged. "I'm happy."
Elton smiled genuinely at her. "Happy looks good on you," He sighed, turning to look out the window. "I hated seeing you so hurt."
"I wasn't...I wasn't hurt, Elton. Just pissed off," Magnolia growled, her grip tightening on the steering-wheel. Her knuckles began to turn white. "And that's why we're doing this, anyway. I hate seeing Bella every day, I hate the memory of them."
Elton nodded. "We both needed this. I'm glad Ariana and Tim agreed," Magnolia leaned forward and turned up the radio. The rest of the car ride consisted of terrible singing, uncontrollable laughter and snacks, lots and lots of snacks. "Thank god!" Elton exclaimed as they pulled up to the hotel in Seattle. "My butt hurts like a bitch!"
Magnolia laughed, turning off the ignition. "I'll get us check-in," She smiled, sliding out of the car. "Would ya mind getting our luggage?" Elton nodded, getting out as well. Magnolia trekked to the front desk, going over the details with the receptionist, finally getting the room keys.
Elton stood waiting in the lobby with their bags. He smiled as she approached. "All set?" He asked. Magnolia nodded. "Great! Let's not waste any more time!"
The two giggled up the elevator, excited to see the room. Magnolia counted the room numbers until they finally found theirs. "Room 346! Our home for the next three days," It took her about two tries with the keycard until the door opened with a click. She stepped in, breathing in the fresh hotel smell. "Ah, I love the smell of hotels."
Elton laughed, stepping in behind her. "You're weird, Maggie. You know that?" He moved passed her, flopping onto one of the two queen beds.
"Oh, I know," She laughed as well, flopping down on the other bed. "But so are you."

They spent a few hours in their room, unpacking and napping until Elton brought up the idea of dinner. "So, would you want to order room service or go out?"
Magnolia paused, thinking. Her stomach grumbled loudly. "Out. We're on vacation, anyway. Why not have some fun!"
Elton jumped up from the bed, clapping his hands. "Alright! I heard there's a great steak house nearby." He took Magnolia's hand, dragging her to the door.
"My purse, Elton!" She cried, escaping from his grip. "We can pay without it, dumbass."
Elton rolled his eyes with a chuckle. "Whatever, just hurry! I need to eat, I am a growing boy, after all."

The hostess sat Magnolia and Elton at a secluded and quiet table. The steakhouse Elton has suggested was extremely fancy and most likely way out of budget for the two of them. "Is there a kid's menu?" Magnolia leaned over to Elton, whispering.
Elton laughed. "Live a little, Maggie. Spending some money won't hurt."
Magnolia rolled her eyes, grumbling. "It's not your money your spending."
"What was that?" Elton accused jokingly, knowing exactly what Magnolia had said. Magnolia stuck her tongue at him. "Such a child." He laughed.
"Good evening," Sound of the waiter's voice caused them both to jump. "How are we doing?"
"Good, good." Magnolia and Elton muttered.
The waiter went on to list the specials and took their orders. Of course, they both ordered the cheapest thing on the menu, which wasn't the steak everyone went there for, but plain old fish and chips.
As Magnolia sat in the dimly lit restaurant, she couldn't help but remember the date Jasper had taken her on that was much similar. She was happy with him, but he just left without a word, without a goodbye. She gripped her fork, forcing the tears back. Elton noticed her change in attitude. "Maggie...what's up?"
Magnolia sniffled, turning her face away from him. "N-Nothing. I just have to go to the washroom," She stood up, nearly knocking her chair to the floor. "I'll only be a moment." She rushed to the women's restroom, locking herself in a stall. She removed her glasses, setting them on the toilet paper dispenser, letting her tears fall silently.
•
"Are you sure you want to go out in public?" Magnolia asked Jasper nervously as she held his hand. They walked down the streets of Seattle, heading to a fancy sushi restaurant. "I don't want you to stress yourself out."
Jasper chuckled, stopping and turning to face her. "Magnolia," He began softly. "With you by my side, how can I be anything but completely and utterly happy?" His honey golden eyes stared into Magnolia's ocean blue.
She couldn't help the heat that travelled up her cheeks. She was embarrassed, but couldn't look away. "S-Stop," She blushed harder. "You're embarrassing me."
"Oh?" Jasper mused. "Am I?" He leaned in closer to her, she could smell the colon he put on — rich and musky. His lips got extremely close to hers. "I didn't even notice." He finished with a soft and supple kiss. Nothing too large, as they were in public, but Magnolia could feel the love oozing from it.
When Jasper pulled away, Magnolia was a stuttering mess. "W-We should really g-get going to the-the restaurant!" She turned ahead, grabbing his hand softly. "We don't w-want to be la-late!"
Jasper chuckled, following her. "No we don't, do we?"
•
Magnolia had been in the washroom longer than anticipated. She wiped her tears and fixed her glasses before unlocking the stall and heading back out. Elton waited nervously for her, their food starting to get cold. He sighed with relief when he saw her approaching. Even in the dark room, he could see that her eyes were red and puffy. "Hey! Foods getting cold!"
Magnolia knew he would notice, he always does. She was glad he didn't say anything as she sat down. "Is it good?" She asked, her voice slightly hoarse. She coughed, clearing her throat.
Elton shrugged. "Don't know. I wanted to wait for you."
Magnolia smiled gratefully at him. "I wanna go," She then frowned. "Can we get it to go?"
Elton nodded. "Of course, Maggie. I'll get the waiter."
•
They walked back to the hotel silently, and when they got back to their room, Magnolia immediately rushed to the shower, wanting to wash away all her dirty and depressing feelings.
Elton has laid out her pyjamas for her when she came out. "Thank you," she smiled at him. He nodded and took his turn to get ready for bed. She was already sound asleep when Elton came back out.
He frowned at her, brow creasing deeply. "I'm sorry, Magnolia. I'm sorry he did this to you." He too got into bed and drifted off not long after.
