14. Talk

Bella sat on Magnolia's bed scanning through every book Magnolia's family owned on sorcery. Millions of thoughts swirled around in her brain as she read. Every now and then, she would ask Magnolia a question, and Magnolia would have to answer. "Wait...it says here some of you have telepathic abilities? How do you guys have everything?"

Magnolia chuckled at her friends' wonder. She was more comfortable sharing now that Bella wasn't afraid. "Only the elders do. They're immortal beings like vampires, except they were gifted immortality. They use their telepathy to keep us in check, and also so we can't lie to them."

Bella smiled wide. "Wow...cool," And her nose was back in the book. "What do the eye colours mean? It says here you can only have two kinds; blue or green." She spoke without once looking up.

"That determines what we are more connected to, in a sense. Sorcerers are connected to the earth, we were born from the good and pure, opposite of vampires, or so the legends go," Bella looked up, leaning closer as Magnolia spoke, drinking the information up like a man deserted in the desert. "Blue eyes have a connection to water and green to nature. They weren't very creative with that." She chuckled, Bella laughed too.

"So you're...water sensitive?" Bella questioned, stifling a giggle.

"Yeah, in a sense. But I haven't...unlocked that part of my powers yet. I think it's all some mumbo-jumbo." Magnolia rolled her eyes with a laugh.

Bella flipped to the last page in the book. "And one last question...can you turn? Into a vampire, I mean." She hesitated with this question.

Magnolia didn't know this answer. "I'm not sure, actually. My dad might, he's the history nerd. I'm guessing no, though. Our blood is toxic to vampires, they can't drink it, can't smell it...all aspects of it repels them."

Bella nodded slowly. "That...makes sense," She closed the book, adding it to the pile on the floor. "Thanks for answering all my dumb questions." She chuckled dryly.

Magnolia stood up, and picked up the pile of books, holding them tightly in place with her chin. "No problem. If you ever have more, we're more than happy to answer."

Bella went home later that night, and as soon as she did, the phone rang. Timothy answered it, and Magnolia could tell from the way his face dropped, it was a Cullen, though she wasn't sure which one. "Now? Why can't you just talk at school," So it wasn't Carlisle or Esme. "If it's so important, sure," Scowling, handed the phone to Magnolia. "Ten minutes, that's it." He stopped off into the living room with Ariana.

"Hello?"

"Hello, darlin'."

Magnolia immediately felt her face heat up at the sound of Jasper's southern drawl. "Jasper...to what do I owe the pleasure of this call?"

Jasper chuckled through the phone. Even through the old scratchy speaker, his voice sounded like butter, clear and smooth. "Well for one, I miss you," Magnolia smiled, giddy. She lent against the wall. "I can't imagine how hard it is for you to hear that you and I are mates, and I understand if you're not ready for all...that yet." Magnolia knew what he was referring to.

"If we are, how would I change?" She hoped Carlisle would overhear.

Jasper took a sharp breath in, his voice was strained. "Let's not...go there yet. I don't want to think about it. We have no idea if it would work or if you would die. I don't want to risk your life just to be with me." As he spoke, his tone softened.

"Sorry...I won't bring it up until you're ready" Magnolia sighed. "But was there another reason for your call?"

Jasper sighed. "Actually, there is," His voice turned hard. "I'm sure you've heard of the...disappearances,"

"The vampire attacks, I know."

"You know?" Jasper genuinely sounded confused. "So I don't have to tell you to be careful. They won't like the fact there are sorcerers in the area. They could be stupid enough to try and take you out, so please, stay safe, I can't constantly protect you, no matter how much I'd try to."

Magnolia smiled. "No need to worry about me. I got my parents, and my powers," Timothy had come around the corner, glaring. "Okay...I need to go now, I'll see you Monday."

"Wait!" Jaspers' urgent voice immediately stopped her. "Would you like to come to our family baseball game tomorrow? It's a perfect day for us tomorrow, a nice thunderstorm. I know you haven't watched a game in a while." She could hear the smirk in his voice, he knew she'd want to come.

Magnolia's smile was wide. Timothy glared at the phone in his daughter's hand. "I would love to! Pick me up?"

"Mmm-hmm, bright and early. See you later, darlin'." The line cut. Magnolia placed the phone back on the wall and turned to her dad.

"They want me to go to one of their baseball games again." She hoped her happy tone and wide smiled would convince her dad to let her go. Not so much.

"No. No way. You've been hanging out enough with them. Too much. Call back and tell that cowboy no." He huffed, but as he attempted to walk away, Ariana stopped him, a look of disapproval on her face.

"Tim, Hunny. Let her have her fun."

Timothy's eyes widened. "Y-You want her there? W-With them?!" He spluttered. He couldn't believe what his wife was saying.

Arianas glare hardened. "Timothy. A word please," She grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the room. Magnolia waited impatiently as she listened to her parent's hushed bickering until they came back. "You may go. Will Jasper be coming to pick you up?" Magnolia nodded. "Good. I'll need to talk to you before you go, okay?" Again, Magnolia nodded.

"Thanks, mom." She smiled sheepishly, and quickly rushed past her parents, and up to her room. She flopped on her bed, squealing with giddy as she thought about how tomorrow would go.

There was a knock on her door. "Come in!" Magnolia called, not looking up from her copy of Carrie. Ariana stepped in, smiling.

"Can we talk?" She asked, closing the door softly behind her.

Magnolia closed her book, sitting up. "I'm guessing I don't have a choice." She laughed as her mom nodded. Ariana sat next to her and took her hand softly.

"I wasn't going to tell your father this, he'd be furious...but the night you were at the Cullen's place, I revived a call from Esme," Magnolia winced. What reason would Esme have to call her mother? "She told me something quite interesting about yours and Jasper's...relationship."

Magnolia froze. She didn't dare look at her mother, for fear of the fury that would soon be unleashed. "Was telling me I was able to go to a game a cruel joke or something?" Her words were quiet and meek, no matter how much courage she tried to muster, she could not talk back to her mother.

Ariana sighed and squeezed her daughter's hand. "Look at me," Magnolia did so reluctantly. "Sweetheart...it wasn't a joke. You should spend time with them, with Jasper. Esme told me you're his mate."

"Oh," Magnolia was expecting worse. "So you're...encouraging this?" She was completely confused.

Ariana chuckled. "I can't stop you two being together, can I? You both are made for each other, there's no stopping it. Your father will have a hard time accepting that." Her warm smile made Magnolia feel ten times better.

The question Bella had asked earlier today came into Magnolia's head. "Can I turn?" Ariana's eyes winded. "Bella asked today, and I wasn't sure, and now that we're on the topic of soulmates, how would I stay with Jasper if I'm not a vampire? Can we turn?"

"I was dreading this question," Ariana shook her head sadly, pressing her lips in a thin line. "In all honesty my sweet, this has never happened. If it did it would be in our books, or the elders would have told us. There's no way of knowing if it's a possibility."

Magnolia frowned. "Well...thanks for letting me go, I guess. Goodnight, mom." She released herself from Ariana's grasp and moved away. Ariana took this as her sign to leave.

"Goodnight."

Magnolia woke up early in anticipation for today. She dug through a bin tucked away in the corner of her room, till she found it, "Yes." She smiled at the blue and white hat in her hands, with a 'C' printed boldly in the middle. At the last Cullen family game, Alice has gifted her that hat.

She felt it was appropriate to wear the Cullen family colours, blue and white, to the game, so Magnolia put on a regular pair of blue jeans, and long-sleeved white turtleneck. She brushed her hair out quickly and placed the hat securely on her head. Loud thuds echoed through the house as she bounced down the stairs. "Morning!" She sang happily as she approached the kitchen. "What's for breakfast?"

Ariana smiled at her daughter. "Egg and bacon breakfast sandwiches," She held up a brown paper bag. "Straight from the diner." She tossed one to Magnolia, who caught it as she sat down at the kitchen table.

"Ahh, I see you worked hard." Magnolia chuckled, taking a bite of her food.

"Yes. I got up extra early to get them fresh. Drove five minutes there and back for those bad boys." Ariana laughed, taking a bite of her sandwich as well.

Magnolia noticed that there were only two sandwiches, as her mother throughout the bag. "Is dad not having one?"

Ariana frowned. "He went out fishing with Charlie and Harry. Said he needs to clear his head," She mocked her husband, rolling her eyes. Magnolia frowned as well. "Don't be upset, sweetie. He'll come around, he loves you too much to stay mad."

A knock sounded from the front door. "I'll get it!" Magnolia jumped up before her mother could, and rushed to the door. Outside, his hair dampened from the rain, stood Jasper, with the dorkiest smile on his face. He held out a bouquet of white roses. "Oh...for me?" Magnolia blushed madly.

Jasper nodded. "I wanted to surprise you. Are you...surprised?" He softly pushed the sweet-smelling roses into Magnolia's hands. She nodded softly, shocked.

"Yes...very much so."

An 'aww' sounded from behind. Ariana stepped beside her daughter, stretching her hand for Jasper to shake. "Nice to see you again, Jasper. I hope you're doing well."

Jasper nodded, standing straighter, if even possible. "Yes, ma'am. I am very grateful you allowed Magnolia to accompany us for our family game. You'll be happy to know Bella will be there as well, Edward invited her."

Ariana's eyes winded slightly. "Oh," She coughed. "You keep that girl out of trouble," She told Magnolia laughing, though Magnolia knew she was completely serious. "I'll see you later. Home by six, okay?"

Jasper nodded once again. "Of course. I'll have her back right on time," He held his hand out to Magnolia. "Shall we?"

Magnolia nodded vigorously. She quickly handed the flowers to her mom. "Bye, love you!" She couldn't wait to get out of the house. As they walked out, Magnolia didn't see a car. "Are we running there?"

Jasper chuckled, and as they moved around her mom's SUV, a motorcycle came into view. A helmet hung on its handlebars, and it was just as silver as Edwards Volvo. "You're chariot, madame."

Magnolia's eyes widened. "You are not getting me on that thing. No way in hell." She backed away from it.

"It's either that or running." Jasper smiled coyly. Magnolia groaned. She had to admit that riding a motorcycle wouldn't be half as bad as running would.

"Fine." She spat, and took a helmet, placing it tightly over her hat. She clicked its buckle and turned to see Jasper already waiting for her. He revved the engine.

"Hop on, darlin'."

Magnolia held onto Jasper's waist as tightly as humanly possible as they sped down through trees and deep wood until they came out to a clearing. Emmett's Jeep sat there, and Magnolia could just make out the figures of Carlisle and Alice in the outfield.

The motorcycle came to a stop, and Magnolia didn't hesitate to jump off. She hastily took the helmet off, and ruffly handed it to Jasper. "Warn me next time you decide to whisk me away on that death trap."

Jasper shook his head, chuckling. "Will do."

"Magnolia! I'm so glad you could make it!" Esme's sweet voice called. In a flash she was next to the girl, smiling wide. "It will be an entertaining game today."

Magnolia smiled back, but then she remembered; Esme had called her mom to tell her about Magnolia and Jasper. "Um...Esme? Could I talk to you for a quick sec?"

Esme nodded. "Of course sweetheart. What is it?"

Magnolia took a deep breath. "I was just wondering...why did you tell my mom about me and Jazz? If I'm being honest, I really don't understand."

Esme nodded, sighing. "I felt as though you'd bring this up. Well if you must know, I felt as a mother, and as a vampire, Ariana would have liked to know what was going on. From what I can see, she's fine with it, as here you stand."

Magnolia flushed, feeling completely rude for asking Esme that. She loved her as if she was her own mother, she couldn't talk back or raise her voice. "Mom said she's happy for me. But it's dad that will take some getting used to." Both she and Esme laughed.

Finally, Edwards car rolled up the field. Bella looked skittish as she stepped out, but that all melted away at the sight of Magnolia. Esme stepped forward, taking both of the girl's arms. "I'm glad you're here, Bella. We need an umpire."

Emmett laughed obnoxiously as they passed him. "She thinks we cheat!"

"I know you cheat," Esme retorted. "Call me as you see em, Bella."

Magnolia stood behind first base, watching. "Okay." Bella chuckled nervously.

"Don't be nervous, Bells. It's fun!" Magnolia called with an amused grin on her face. Jasper came and stood next to her, taking her hand and swinging their arms.

Thunder sounded from above, and all the Cullens' smirked. The game was on. "It's time," Alice called from the pitch.
