04. Sorceress

"Jasper you're staring." The voice of Alice Cullen snapped Jasper back to reality. He looked into his best friend's concerned eyes and frowned.

"Sorry, I just...I can't stop thinking about her. What will she become now that her powers are working? Can we even be her friends anymore? What if Ariana and Timothy take her away?" He ran his hand through his hair, looking across the lunchroom again at Magnolia. Alice sighed, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry, Jazz. You know the vision I had, and it hasn't changed. She'll be one of us one day...whether she wants it or not." Alice sadly mumbled the last part. She didn't want one of her best friends to be turned against her will, but she couldn't see that far ahead.

Jasper groaned. "So you keep saying. How will she turn, anyway? A sorcerers blood is toxic to vampires, we can't bite her."

Emmet laughed from beside him, tossing an apple back and forth between his hands. "Magic works in mysterious ways. I trust Alice's vision; you should too," This earned a huff from Edward. Emmet narrowed his eyes. "What? What is your problem."

Edward shook his head, looking back over at Bella, the new girl. Her smell, something about it just...it made him feel something he's never felt before. He couldn't focus on anything else but it. "Just spit it out, Edward," Jasper spoke through clenched teeth.

Edward looked back over, rolling his eyes. "I just think that...maybe the vision will change. They always seem to, even ones that we think never will. There's no way Magnolia can become a vampire. It's never been done before in the history of our kind, and it never will, because they've bred themselves for it to be impossible. Doesn't matter whether she's your...your mate, or not."

The family stayed silent. None had a response to what Edward had just stated. He was right, how could Magnolia turn? It was simply impossible. "Well, let's change the subject, shall we?" Rosalie spoke up, seeing the look on Jasper's face; ready to kill Edward. She would rather a fight break out at home than for the stupid boys to do it at school and risk their exposer.

Jasper nodded stiffly and got up. "I think I need some time to myself. To clear my head." Alice glanced at him, feeling a little worried. As he walked away she turned to her siblings.

"I'll go after him. See you all later."

Magnolia and Bella laughed as they walked to Biology. The two girls were having a great time getting to know each other again. "Charlie actually wanted me to ask if you wanted to come over for dinner this weekend." Bella smiled.

"Oh, well I'd love to. We haven't had a nice dinner with Charlie in a while since he's been so busy. It'll be nice to you there, too." They stepped into the classroom. Mr. Molina was bustling around his desks, talking to multiple students. "I'm gonna take my seat, talk to you after class." Magnolia smiled, giving Bella a quick hug. She made her way to the back of the class, sitting next to Eric.

"Hey, baby! How's catching up with Bella been?" Eric leaned onto Magnolia's shoulder, smiling widely at her. Magnolia nudged him off, rolling her eyes.

"Fine, and not like it's any of your business, Eric." She spat, taking out her notebook and pencil case. A chuckle came from behind her, and she turned to meet Jasper's eyes. "Yes, Jasper? Is there something you need?"

His eyes widened at her sudden harsh tone. He shook his head. "No, ma'am. Sorry to be a bother." Alice frowned from beside him.

"Um, Maggie! How would you like to go shopping after school?" The smallest Cullen smiled hopefully at her friend. Magnolia shook her head.

"Sorry. Can't. Mom wants me home right away, says it's something important. But I'll call you, I need to vent anyway." The voice of Mr. Molina turned her attention away from the Cullens and to the front of the classroom. She noticed Bella was seated next to Edward, causing her to glare at the boy.

From behind, Jasper could feel her worry and hatred towards Edward, and the fact Bella was so close to him. His frown turned bigger, as he slumped in his seat. Alice turned to him and patted his arm lightly. "It'll be ok, Jazz." Jasper shook his head, not wanting her pity.

"So today, we will be observing the behaviour of planaria." The lesson had started, and Magnolia tried her best to rid all thoughts of Edward and Jasper.

School was finally over. Magnolia had met her mom in the hall in between the last two periods, saying she would take her home instead of Bella, so she sadly said goodbye to Bella, and started heading for the front of the school, where her mom would be waiting. "Maggie! Woah, slow down!" Elton had come up behind her, stopping her in her tracks. "Pizza, remember?"

Magnolia frowned, suddenly remembering the promise she made to her best friend. "Oh my god...I'm so sorry Elton. My mom said she needed me at home, and I totally forgot to cancel with you. I promise tomorrow we can go."

Elton's frown was deeply written across his face, his eyebrows tightly knit together. "Oh...um that's ok, it's cool. Tomorrow can work," He looked down at his feet, then back up into Magnolia's eyes. "Could you at least tell me what Jasper did?" He seemed to have timed his comment perfectly, as the Cullen family had just entered the hallway, much to Magnolia's dismay.

"It wasn't...him per se. It's just pressure from home I guess, and that feeling building up? Then it all kinda exploded. It wasn't anything he did...just what he caused. I don't know, it's really confusing," Magnolia looked at the time and sighed. "I really have to get going. I'll see you tomorrow." She gave him a quick hug and kiss on the cheek, and rushed out of the front doors. She could still feel the burning eyes of the Cullens on her as she entered her mom's car. "Hey, mom," Magnolia said bitterly as she tossed her bag into the back seat.

Ariana sighed. "Sweetie, I know you're upset you can't get pizza with Elton, but now that your powers are starting to surface, your father and I need to teach you how to control them, before anything dangerous happens." She put the car in reverse, moving to back the car out of the parking spot. The rev of an engine caused Magnolia to glance out of the window.

She knew who it was already; she could hear Emmett's laughter from inside the car. Sighing, she turned back to face the front, watching the school fade away as her mom drove.

Right when their car parked in the driveway, Magnolia sprang from her seat, grabbed her bag and rushed to the house. "Magnolia slow down!" Her mother called from the driveway, but Magnolia ignored her, opening the front door and jogging up the stairs into her room. She didn't close the door, she just flopped onto her white sheets and sighed. "Sweetie, is everything alright?"

Magnolia shook her head deeper into the mattress. "What is it?" Ariana sat on the edge of the bed, patting her daughter's leg.

"I told people I would call them later...but I forgot a broke my phone." She groaned, letting out an annoyed huff, remembering what she had told Alice in biology.

Timothy had entered the room. "What's this about breaking your phone?" He furrowed his eyebrows together at the scene in front of him.

"Check my bag." Magnolia pointed to the spot she had dropped her bag, not looking up from her soft comforter. Timothy shrugged his shoulders at his wife and did what he was told. He opened Magnolia's backpack and in a plastic baggie, held a crushed cellphone.

"Oh, my lord!" Ariana exclaimed, jumping up from her place on the bed, grabbing the phone from her husband. "Magnolia Siren, what do you have to say for yourself? How on earth did you break your phone?"

Magnolia begrudgingly looked up and rolled over to face her now fuming mother. "I crushed it...with my bare hands, mom. I crushed it! How can I do that?!"

Timothy looked amusingly between his wife and daughter. "I think we got our hands full here, Ari. She's gonna be one tough sorceress."
