Chapter 8

You freeze when those words reach your ears. You swing back around to face Eridan, a shocked, but angry look on his face.

"No way!" you exclaim, "You have to stay and help protect the village!"

"No, I'm an alchemist, I can't protect the village," he growls "that's why there are village guards, and like hell will I allow you to go into the Rage Kingdom alone."

"You barely know me." You try to change his mind.

Eridan doesn't say anything as he tugs you back towards the path behind him. You try to struggle but he had a strong grip on your shoulder. You hear Rose, who was still around your neck somehow, hiss at him.

You begin to panic when you notice that you were heading down the path, away from your home. But you sort of feel relieved when you turn to go to Eridan's house.

You eventually reach his house and he tugs you inside. He walks into the lounge room and makes you sit on the couch. He lets go of your shoulder and looks down at you.

"Don't move." He says, his voice a lot softer than earlier.

You nod stiffly, really not wanting to agree with his command. He nods and walks off.

"Maybe we can lose him on the way." You quietly mumble to Rose.

'Maybe' she agrees.

After a few minutes Eridan walks back into the room, a backpack on. You could see his white wand sticking out of his pocket.

"Alright, let's go." Eridan says with a nod.

You sigh and stand up. The both of you walk out of the house, neither of you talking. You make your way back to your house and back through the part of the forest you were going through earlier.

"You're an idiot, you know." You finally say as you trudge through the dense forest, dodging roots and branches.

"So are you." He retorts, shrugging.

You both look at each other before chuckling.

'Maybe it'll be alright.' You think.

The skies had begun to change from a nice summery blue, to oranges, yellows and pinks. You look up through the leaves of the above trees and at the darkening sky.

"Maybe we should find somewhere to camp." You say, glancing at Eridan.

"Sounds good." Eridan agrees.

You keep walking along quietly until your reach a small clearing. Once you're both standing in the middle of the clearing you turn to face each other.

"Firewood?" you suggest.

"Firewood." Eridan confirms.

The both of you head off in separate direction in order to find fallen branches and such. But you make sure not to go off too far so you didn't get lost. You pick up whatever wood you could find lying around. Eventually your arms are full and you trudge back to see that Eridan had already returned.

"Took you long enough." Eridan smirks and goes back to trying to light the fire.

You raise a brow at his attempt to start the fire. You march over and set your wood down on the pile Eridan already had. You walk back towards make shift fire pit.

"Step aside," you grin, "leave it to the master."

Eridan rolls his eyes, but stands up and takes a step back. You reach over Rose, who still hadn't moved, and pull out your staff, which had been skilfully stuffed into your bag.

"Ignis." You speak and swing the rod towards the pit.

A shot of fire blasts out from the end of the staff and hits the wood, setting it ablaze. You glance over at Eridan and grin.

"Alright, I'll give you that one." Eridan nods.

You had already set up where the both of you would be sleeping. Eridan had brought a bedroll, but stupidly forgotten a tent, so the pair of you would be stuck sharing a tent.

As of now, you were all eating food which you had packed. Rose had finally gotten off of you and was currently sitting on the ground as she ate out of a bowl you had brought with you. There wasn't really any talk as you all dug in. You had been travelling for a few hours. But you knew it was nothing compared to what was to come.

"So, how long will it take to get through?" Eridan asks.

"Well, we have to go through the Blood Kingdom, then the Doom Kingdom, the Light Kingdom, the Life Kingdom and then the Space Kingdom before we get to the Rage Kingdom, which will take around a month," you explain, "and then to get across the Rage Kingdom that nearly another week."

"That sound like one hell of a trek." Eridan sighs.

"Yeah, and that's without any complications," you groan, "Which there probably will be. Oh and we have to get out of this kingdom, which is another day."

"So it'll probably take maybe two months?" Eridan asks.

"Probably." You nod, finishing off your food.

Once you all finish eating you use your magic cloth that Eridan gave you to clean the bowls. The cloth had finished cleaning and returned to you, still clean. You pick up the bowls and put them back into your bag.

"Alright, we should get some rest." You tell Eridan and he hums in reply.

You set your bags in the corner of the tent before slipping into your bed roll. You feel pressure on your leg to see Rose sitting on your legs.

"Alright, come on." You sigh and Rose walks up to you, lying down under the covers.

Only a moment later does Eridan walk in, his bag in hand. He sits it down on his side of the tent and hops into his bedroll.

"Night (y/n)." Eridan speaks up.

"Night Eridan." You reply sleepily before closing your eyes.
