Chapter 4

Today was the fifth day of you living in Skaia and you had completely fixed up your house. It took a while but the house was fully functioning.

You step out of the door, a woven basket in your hand. Rose sat inside the basket, her tail swaying calmly. You sit on the basket onto the wooden frame of the garden bed. You turn to the first berry filled shrub and picking off the ripest berries. You toss the berries into the now empty basket. You glance around to see that Rose had gone off somewhere. You continue to pick various berries and fruits from the garden.

Once you pick a fair amount you get back to your feet and walk back inside. You sit the basket on the bench in the kitchen. You pour some of the water from a bucket that you had into a small pot and begin to clean all of the wild fruits. Once they're cleaned you plop them into a container. You open up the cooling cupboard and sit the container in it.

'Guess I should go into town.' You think as you close the door to the cupboard.

You pick up you cloak on the way to the door. You exit your house and make your way down the path to the village. Once you enter the village, the sound of chattering fills your ears. You walk down the town centre and look around at the signs on the buildings. When you see 'General store' written in bold letters on one of the signs, you stop in your tracks.

"I need to get some more food," you think to yourself, "and I need to get something to sharpen my carving tools."

You walk into the shop, looking around at the filled shelves.

"Hello!" a chipper voice cuts off the silence.

You look up to see a man with messy hair and bright eyes standing behind the counter.

"Hi," you reply, slightly awkward, "I'm (y/n), I recently moved into town."

"Ah yes," the man speaks up, his eyes lighting up in recognition, "I've heard some chatter around the town about you."

"Anyway," he says, "the name's Mason."

"Well it's nice to meet you Mason; I was wondering if you had anything that I could sharpen tools with?" you ask, walking up to the counter.

"I think I have something out back." He says and turns around, walking out the door behind him.

You could hear him making sounds out the back, boxes being moved and things being tussled through. Only a few moments later does Mason reappear out of the back room. In his hand was a decent sized stone. He sits the stone on the counter and looks back up at you, a friendly smile on his face.

"All you have to do is rub the flat of the stone against the blade you want the sharpen." he explains.

Your eyes light happily and you look back up at the man, "how much?"

"7 gold."

You nod and pull your satchel of money from your pocket. You open it up and fish out seven gold coins from it. You close the satchel and shove it back into your pocket. You sit the gold coins onto the counter. Mason nods for you to take the stone and you do so.

"Well, thank you for the help, but I'm in quite a hurry." You smile at the shop keep.

"Of course, see you next time!"

You turn around and head back out. As you walk out you bump into someone, your newly bought sharpening stone flies out of your hand. You groan as you land on your butt. Your eyes close and you wait for the door to come back and hit you.

"Are you just going to sit there?" a voice asks.

You open your eyes and look up at the person who spoke; you end up staring at Eridan's hazel orbs.

"Oh, right" you stutter as you get to your feet.

"Here." Eridan says as he hands back the stone.

"Thank you." you smile, taking the stone back.

"So what's that for?" Eridan asks, gesturing at the stone as he lets go of the door he had been holding.

"Oh, I need to sharpen an axe and some of my carving tools," you explain, "my wand stopped working so I've decided to make a staff this time."

"Well, we should collaborate on some magic sometime." Eridan offers, scratching the back of his neck.

"That'd be great," you chuckle, "how about I come over to your place?"

"Sure," Eridan nods, "my house is close to yours, all you have to do is go down the other side in the fork of the path."

Once he finishes his sentence he turns away and briskly walks away, an obvious blush on his cheeks.

Once you finish getting some food with what remaining coins you had, you head back home. As you pass the fork in the path you glance at the other side before continuing down your side of the path. It doesn't take long until you reach your home. You walk into the lounge, your stone in hand. You sit the stone down and walk into the kitchen and grab the axe and bag of carving tools you had left on the kitchen table. You walk back into the lounge and sit the items down. You hear the familiar meow of familiar as she struts onto the table; her fur was dirtied and slightly matted.

"What happened to you, Rose?" you ask, raising a brow.

'I'd prefer not to talk about it.' She replies.

"Alright, we can both have a bath after I finish sharpening my stuff."

'Sounds fair.' She nods.
