Chapter 3
You had spent the past two days in solitude as you continued to clean the house. You and Rose had eaten what was left of your rations in your bag. At the moment you were seated on the roof, the magic cloth tucked into your pocket comfortably and Rose sitting at the top of the roof. You had found some shingles in the basement and decided to fix the roof. You had just finished putting the last shingle in when you hear footsteps coming up the path. You look over to see Anna walking up the path. You wave to her and she waves back. You toss the hammer in your hand down onto the ground below and hop down the ladder. You pick the hammer up from the grass and walk over to greet Anna.
"Hi Anna," you smile at the woman, "it's nice to see you."
"You too (y/n)," she greets in return, "I hadn't seen you around and thought I should bring you some fresh vegetables and fruit."
You look down at the wooden crate filled with a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits.
"Thank you," you smile, "I really appreciate that you thought of me."
"Of course, you must be pretty busy with fixing the place up." Anna says.
"Well, why don't you come in?" You offer, gesturing towards the house.
"Sure, I'd love to." She smiles.
The both of you walk into the house. Anna sits the crate on the kitchen table and you sit the hammer down.
"I don't have any tea since I have been living off my rations as of the past few days," you explain, "but I do have fresh wild fruit juice."
"Oh, that sounds great." Anna nods.
You get out two glasses that you had cleaned a while ago and pour some juice into each of the cups. You turn around, both cups in hand and give one of the cups to Anna. You lead her into the lounge and you both sit down on the now clean couch. Rose had already made herself comfortable on the back of the couch.
"So how'd you know what fruits you could eat around here?" Anna asks, taking a sip of the juice, "and how'd you make it taste so good?"
"Oh, I grew up in a similar area to this," you reply, "my mother taught me how to tell what foods are edible and what ones go well together."
"You could sell this stuff," Anna admits, "I'd definitely buy it."
"That's not a bad idea," you chuckle, "I am running low on gold."
"Well how about you make, I buy it off of you and sell it to the townspeople and merchants."
"Wait, you're serious?" you ask, shocked.
"Of course, if you're in need of money I'd be happy to help you!" Anna exclaims happily.
"Thank you so much!" you say with just as much enthusiasm.
You and Anna continue to talk about the juices and the town. She told about where all the stores were so you wouldn't have any troubles in the future.
"Well I should get going," Anna says, sitting her cup on the wooden table, "I can come back for that juice sometime next week."
"That sounds great."
With that you both stand up and you walk Anna to the door. You wave her off and then head back to the kitchen. You pick up the hammer you had finished using and go to put it back in the basement. You walk down the stairs into the newly lit and organised room. You had put a few light up orbs around the room that are motion censored and you made some shelves with some old planks of wood that had been laying around.
You sit the hammer in its appropriate place on one of the shelves. You glance over at the gardening tools.
'Maybe I should plant some wild fruit closer to the house.' You think as you pick up the tools.
You turn back around and walk back up. You walk outside and sit the tools down on the ground next to the side of the house. You grab the small hand shovel and make your way into the woods that surrounded your new house. You look around until you spot a shrub that had wild berries growing on it. You kneel down and begin to gently dig at the dirt below it. It doesn't take long before the small shrub is loose enough for you to pull out. Once it's out you walk back to your house and begin to dig a hole in one of the garden beds that had probably been created by the previous owners of the place.
Once the bush is safely planted in the soil you stand up and stretch your back.
'Well, this is going to take forever'
It was sunset by the time you had finished planting enough wild fruit plants in the garden beds. You walk over to the bucket of water that was sat against your house; you dip your hands in and wash the dirt off of your hands. You then pick up that gardening tools and take them inside. You put them back into the basement and head to the kitchen.
You open the lone cupboard that you had managed to enchant to be cold with the last of your magic in the small wand you had. You pull out some meat that you had cut off from some wild birds you had caught. You turn the oven on; the magic still ran through it so you didn't need to replace it. You grab a pot and then walk outside to the well around the back of the house. You pull up the rope with one hand and tie it to the metal holding the rope in place. You grab the bucket and pour the water into the pot. On your way back inside you pick some wild herbs from your new garden. You sit the pot on the now hot stove top. You pull out some of the vegetables from the crate Anna hand brought you.
You begin to chop up the vegetables and grind up the spices.
"Rose, we're eating well tonight!"
