Chapter 27

"Wow this lake is gorgeous." You hum as you walk around the lake.

It wasn't too big so going around it wasn't a real hindrance.

"Who feels like going for a dip?" Sollux jokes.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you~" Vriska sing songs.

"And why is that?"

"Because the lakes in this place are inhabited by fairies," she explains, "they are quite possessive of their lakes."

You hum in interest, looking at the clear water, not a ripple blemishing the surface. It was quite tempting to go for a swim, but you'd rather not be destroyed by an angry fairy.

"So, we only have two more kingdoms to trudge through before we reach the Rage Kingdom." You sigh, talking more to yourself than the others.

"It won't be long now," Vriska sighs, "then we'll be killed by the Grand High Blood himself."

"Wow, and I thought I was pessimistic." Sollux grunts.

This causes you to chuckle. Your hand that was still intertwined with Eridan's begins to swing, almost subconsciously.

"I wonder if it's true that there aren't any villages in this kingdom." you wonder out loud.

"I've heard that there aren't." Eridan nods.

"How peculiar." You hear Vriska hum.

This place looked like it was from the books you were read to as a kid. The trees looked bright and the lake was glistening like crystal.

"Man, I wish I was raised in this kingdom." You hear Sollux mumble.

That was true; it would have been incredible to have grown up in such a beautiful kingdom. You hear happy mewling and look over to see Rose romping around in some long grass. You smile and stop walking.

"Hey guys, how about we stop here for tonight." You suggest.

The others stop walking and look over at you.

"Isn't it a bit early?" Karkat asks.

"Yeah, but the next two kingdoms are going to be tough," you try to reason, "since we teleported we're ahead so it'll be fine."

"If it means I get to be lazy I'm fine with it." Sollux shrugs, dropping his stuff.

"Sweet." Vriska grins, sitting down on the grass.

You hear Karkat grumbling as he begins to set his stuff down. You sigh in relief as you practically collapse on the ground, Eridan sitting down beside you. You lay your staff down and slip your bag off. You check to make sure that you could still see Rose from where you sat, which luckily you could and close your eyes, resting your head on Eridan's shoulder. You feel Eridan stiffen for a moment before leaning back against his bag.

There was a warm wind that tousled your hair as you take a deep breath. The air here was so sweet, like all of the trees just blossomed.

"Do you think they're gonna kiss?" you manage to Vriska snicker.

Your eyes snap open and glare straight at her. She just grins and winks before leaning against a tree and closing her eyes. Man, you were gonna kill her.

The next time you wake up it was beginning to get dark. You were laying against your bag by yourself, the tents were already set up and there was a fire going with Karkat cooking over it.

"Oh god, how long was I out?" you grumble.

"Eh, a couple of hours." Vriska's voice comes from behind you.

He walks past you with an armful of logs.

"Ah shit, sorry."

"It's fine, it wasn't hard to do this since we had more time."

You sigh in relief and get to your feet. You walk over to the fire and sit beside Karkat.

"Do you need any help?" you ask.

Karkat looks up from the small makeshift table he was using for cutting vegetables.

"Yeah, can you make sure the pot doesn't burn."

You nod with a smile and begin to stir the food that was already in the pot.

"Hey you little shit!"

You snap to look at Karkat to see why he was yelling. You snort when you see Rose's paw lift up and patter against the top of the table, trying to steal the meat that was sitting on the edge.

"Tell her to go away!" Karkat yells at you.

"Rose, I'll feed you once this pot is cooked."

With that the pale paw disappears and you watch her tail sway as she trots off. You laugh when you see the angry look on Karkat's face.

"What're you laughing at?!"

"Nothing, nothing!"
