Chapter 25

"Man, no matter what kind of environment we're in, walking still sucks." You groan.

"Indeed." Sollux adds.

You lean against Eridan, who just grunts in response. He takes your weight and just continues to walk beside you. The scenery was quite nice, but the aching in your feet discouraged you from enjoying it. Every now and again you could hear birds tweet, but other than that there weren't really any other sounds. Man, this trip was such a drag, well, you were going to destroy an evil overlord, so that's a given. But you had hoped that it wouldn't be so long and annoying.

You all stop in your tracks when an odd sound echoes through the trees. It wasn't something you had heard since you entered the kingdom.

You hear Sollux mumble a 'what the fuck.'

When the sound echoes out once more, you begin to walk towards the area it was coming from. Your staff was clenched in your hand tightly as you creep forward, you could hear the other following closely behind you. To your right you could see Rose sneaking along the tree branches.

"Oh."

You lower your staff as you look at the fallen deer in front of you. You look at its leg to notice it was trapped in a hole. You walk towards it, and kneel beside it, your staff leaning against your shoulder as you pull its' foot free. The deer makes a grateful sound and stand up. You get to your feet, only to come face to face with a blonde woman. A yelp escapes your lips as you stumble back.

"Wow, thanks for that." They laugh and grab a hold of your wrist.

Before you could even fight back your staff and the bracelet that had been on your wrist are gone. Immediately you run after the woman, you could hear your companions calling for you. But your eyes were trained on the thief as you chase after her. You weren't losing her, but you weren't catching up to her either, so you do the only thing you could think of. You dig your hand into a side pocket of your bag and pull out a small, white ball. You ditch the ball at the thief and out of it springs a web. It tangles around the woman, her limbs getting all tangled and she tumbles to the ground.

"Well then," you kneeling beside the struggling woman, you pick up your staff and bracelet, "now that I've got you here."

The woman frowns and looks up at you.

"I assume you're a shapeshifter," you begin, "the only person who can untangle this web trap is me, so, let's make a deal."

"What deal?"

You dig into your bag and pull out a thin, blue glove. You slip it on and look at the trapped woman.

"If you shake my hand, you will have to stick with me until my quest is complete, and you can't steal anything from me or my companions."

This causes her to frown. You cut the webbing off of one of her hands, just so she could shake your hand. You hold your hand in front of hers and wait. While she contemplates this, the others appear behind you.

"I mean, I can just leave you like this." You shrug.

Just as you were about to stand up, they grip your hand and shake it. You look down at them with a grin.

"So, do you mind telling us the name of our new friend?"

"Vriska."

"Well Vriska," you cut the webbing off of her, "welcome to this strange group."

Vriska grumbles as she gets to her feet. You stand up with a successful look on your face.

"Well guys," you say, turning to face the other, "we have a new member of our rag tag group."

You take off the glove and slip it back into your bag.

"Okay, let's continue."

You glance up at the sky and then begin walking. Now you had 5 party members, this was good at giving you a chance at your goal.

"So, where are we going exactly?" Vriska asks.

"Oh, we're going to defeat the Grand High Blood." You state.

This causes Vriska to begin laughing. You look at her with a blank face, and that causes her to stop laughing.

"You're serious?"

"Deadly."

"What makes you think you – we – could defeat him?"

"I have a plan."

"What? You're tiny compared to him."

Your head snaps towards her, almost scaring her.

"I know what I'm doing."

After this you look forward and continue to walk silently. You knew that Vriska wanted to continue talking, but something stopped her from continuing.

You were over half way there, but it still felt like you had way too long to go. But that thought wasn't going to slow you down, you had begun this, and you were going to finish it.
