Chapter 22
You pout as you continue to fix your hair as the food in being handed out. You were currently stuck sitting between Eridan and Sollux.
You stop when a plate is put in front of your face "oh, thank you."
You take the plate and begin eating. You were so happy to be eating since you hadn't eaten too much today. Every now and again you'd share pieces of food with Rose, who was snuggled between you and Eridan.
"So, Sollux," Karkat begins, "why are you travelling through here?"
"Well, I've always travelled a lot," Sollux shrugs, "I was going to stay in a nearby village, but they hate magic and kicked me out."
"Oh, shit."
You didn't say anything during this conversation, you just kept eating. Once you finished you pulled out the magic cloth Eridan gave you and tell it to clean your utensils.
"You still have that?" Eridan asks.
"Of course," you blink, "it's very useful."
Eridan smiles before he continues to eat.
"Well, I'm going to set up my tent."
With that you get up and walk over to your pack and staff. You pull your tent from your pack and begin to set it up.
"Why don't you just use magic to set it up?" you hear Sollux's voice.
"My staff can only use strong fire magic," you explain, "so unless I want to set my tent on fire I'll stick to the old fashion way."
Truth be told, you had lost your magic gloves so you couldn't use the basic magic you usually used. You sigh as you begin to set up your tent. You listen to the quiet conversation between the three men that were still sitting around.
"You better set up your tent; otherwise you'll be stumbling around in the dark.
This makes Karkat stand up, sighing angrily, "fucking fine."
Once you finish the tent you shove your bag and sleeping stuff in. Rose also makes herself comfortable inside, curling up on your bedding. You thought about picking her up, but you can just wake her up when you're ready for bed. You turn around and go back to the fire. The others had finished eating and you got your magic cloth to clean everything.
"So, (y/n)," Sollux starts, "why'd you let me join you?"
"Well, I would have felt bad to just leave you there with minimal supplies," you explain, "plus we could use a cleric."
Sollux just nods, kind of just leaving it there.
You were wondering if you'd be sleeping in your tent alone again. I mean, the space is appreciated, but then it's kind of lonely. Of course you had Rose, but you hadn't had human contact for quite some time, so it was always welcomed. You decide to just straight out ask, you know, like a sensible person.
"So, who'll be sleeping where?"
"Well, the tents are quite small," Karkat sighs, "and since you've known Eridan the longest, you two will cram in your tent.
You're pretty sure you almost celebrate out loud. But instead you just nod.
"Sounds good, you can chuck your stuff in the tent whenever you want."
Eridan just nods and continues to watch the fire.
"Well, I'm going to beg," you stand up, "I don't want to be tired tomorrow.
You stand back up and head towards the tent, hearing the others say goodnight as you do so. You crawl into the tent and remove your shoes. You toss them to the side and slip into your bedding, trying not to wake Rose up, but of course that works as well as you'd think.
'Really? Just give me a second.' Rose mumbles and hops up, lying by your head.
"Goodnight Rose."
'Goodnight (y/n).'
You close your eyes and feel yourself drifting off. But of course instead of sweet sleep, a bag lands on your stomach, waking you.
"Sorry." You hear Eridan say and the bag is removed from you.
"Geez, just as I was about to fall asleep." You groan.
It takes Eridan a good 15 minutes to get all of his shit together and slip into beg. You're now lying on your side, lazily glaring at Eridan.
"I said I was sorry, geez."
You chuckle and close your eyes, "its fine."
"You're not acting like it is." He grumbles.
"You sound like a five year old, calm down."
There's a short silence.
"Sorry that you no longer have a tent to yourself."
"Well, to be honest, I'd prefer not to be alone," man this was embarrassing, "I've been alone so long that I appreciate human contact."
Your eyes open when you feel something on your hand. You look down to see Eridan grasping your hand, fingers intertwined. You look back at Eridan, whose eyes were closed. You smile as you give his hand a squeeze as you drift off.
