Chapter 16

"This is ridiculous." You grunt, lying down on your sleeping mat.

"Don't have a fit over it." Karkat replies, you could tell just by the sound of his voice that he rolled his eyes.

Due to definitely foreseen circumstances, there were now three of you jammed into one tent. You were on the left, Eridan in the middle and Karkat on the right. Rose was currently curled up on your stomach. You were quite uncomfortable sleeping in the same tent with people you had only known for a short amount of time, but it had begun to rain, so you had no choice.

"So Karkat," you begin, "we told you our story, I think it's only fair that you tell us yours."

There's a silence, nothing comes from the knight across the tent.

"When I was a child," Karkat begins, "I had met a kid by the name of Gamzee."

Your throat tightens at the name of the youngest prince.

"He never really spoke about where he was from, but we used to play with each other," Karkat's voice had begun to stress, "but then his father, the Grand High Blood, appeared and took him."

There is more silence as someone tried to come up with something to say.

"I want to see him again." Karkat finalises.

You remembered Gamzee from your time in the Rage Kingdom.

"I don't think you'd want to see him." You mumble.

"And why the hell is that?!" Karkat exclaims angrily.

You take a deep breath before you begin your story.

"I knew Gamzee when he was young," you sigh, "when I was first taken to the Rage Kingdom we used to play together, but one day he disappeared, I'm guessing that's when you met him."

It was hard for you to finish the last of your story.

"When he returned, he was... different," you gulp, "he was much too like his father, full of rage, he had attacked me when I tried to talk to him, after that I just avoided him."

The silence that had once just been uncomfortable, now made you feel sick. You felt sorry for Karkat; he must feel just as sad as you did. Now you had come to terms with it, he was the son of the King of the Rage Kingdom.

"But if I..." Karkat trails off, not sure what to say.

"Just go to sleep." You mutter as you close your eyes.

It wasn't very long before the sun rose to shine in your face. You groan as you roll onto your side, you feel yourself bump into something. You tuck your head into it and try to go back to sleep.

"Uh, (y/n)?" a voice makes you stir once again.

You hum and look up to see that you were now face to face with Eridan. In your tired awakening, you had managed to cuddle up to Eridan's chest.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" you exclaim, moving yourself away from him.

"It's fine," he chuckles, "but we have to get going."

"Oh, right." You mumble.

You slip on your boots and step out of the tent. The sun shone into your eyes as you look around. You see that Karkat had already packed his stuff and was currently cooking breakfast. Every now and again he'd throw down a piece of meat for Rose to eat. You look behind you to see Eridan getting out of the tent. You snicker when you see his bed hair.

"If you are seriously laughing at my hair, you haven't seen yours yet." He snaps.

You huff as you begin to thread your fingers through your hair in an attempt to brush it out. It was then Eridan's turn to snicker; you lightly kick him in the shin and turn around, walking towards Karkat.

"Good morning Karkat." You smile.

"Good morning." He mumbles as he plates the last of the food.

You take a seat beside him, petting Rose's head as you do so.

"Here." Karkat says, handing you a plate of what looked to be steak.

"Thanks." You reply as you take a bite of the food.

It tasted really good, much better than the food you cooked.

"Wow Karkat," Eridan praises as he takes another bite of the meat, "this is so much better than (y/n)'s cooking."

You give the wizard a dirty look before continuing to eat.

'I hope to god we find a village today.'
