Chapter 15
"C'mon (y/n)," a voice begins to awaken you, "we should get going."
You groan as you roll in your bed. A hiss escapes your lips when the warm blankets were ripped from you. You curl up in a ball in an attempt to keep the warmth you were once surrounded in. You feel arms loop under your legs and around your back. You're lifted off of your bed and let out a high whine.
When your feet touch the floor you shakily stand up. You yawn as you rub your eyes.
"Clean yourself up and then we'll head off." Eridan tells you.
You open your eyes and then walk towards the bathroom. You splash your face and walk back out of the bathroom. You sit back down on the bed and slip your shoes on.
A moment later Eridan walks back in, his bag on his back.
"Alright, let's go." He says.
You nod and put your bag on, then you stuff your staff into the gap between your bag and your back, you notice that Rose was already was sitting by the door. You walk out behind Eridan and begin to head out.
You, Eridan and Rose walk down the crowded streets. You hoped that Eridan knew where the ferry was because you didn't. You watch as the people around you, all of them looking at the stalls or entering stores.
You pause when you see a familiar face. When you lock eyes with them, they begin to walk towards you. You tug on Eridan's sleeve, and you point towards the person.
"So, you two are heading off?" Karkat asks.
"Yep." You nod.
"Well, do you need another member?" Karkat asks another question.
"What?" you ask, confused.
"I have someone in the Rage Kingdom I'd like to see." Karkat explains.
You glance at Eridan, who seemed to be torn.
"Well, you did save our lives." You mumble.
There's a short silence between us.
"Sure, you can come along." You shrug.
The four of you sit on the very uncomfortable seats that the ferry offered. Well, Rose luckily got to sit on you. There wasn't much talking between the three of you. The air whipped through your hair as you take a deep breath of the fresh air. You watch as the ferry creates waves in the otherwise still water.
The ferry jolts to a halt, making you almost fall out of your chair. But Eridan manages to catch you with one of his arms.
"Thanks." You mumble as you get to your feet.
Rose had jumped onto her usual spot on your shoulders. You bag was swung on your back as the three of you begin to walk off of the ferry. You feel a few people push past you, but ignore it as you divert off of the path in order to converse with your other companions. You turn to face the two, almost taking Eridan out with your large bag.
"Watch it!" Eridan shouts.
"Oops, sorry." You chuckle.
"So, Karkat," you begin, looking at the short male, "how long will it take to get across the Blood Kingdom?"
"Well, it'll take about two or three days to cross the fields," he nods, "and then there is a bridge across a thinner part of the river, then it'll take half a day to get to the Doom Kingdom."
You nod as you take in the information, you and Eridan had enough to eat for that long, but with Karkat with you there might not be enough food. You might have to stop into a nearby town to refill your bags.
"And are there any towns on our way through?" you ask.
Karkat pauses for a moment to think.
"I believe so," he informs you, "there one about half way."
You nod, "we'll have to get more food while we're there."
The two others not in agreement and we begin our trek to the next town. You knew that it would be long and hit due to the lack of trees in the fields, but you didn't feel the usual fear that surrounded you, you felt happy you weren't alone.
Okay, you were now officially missing the Hope Kingdom. You miss the amazing shade that it allowed, protecting you from the hot sun. Sweat trickled down your forehead as you march on, a frown on your face.
"GOD DAMN ITS HOT!" Karkat growls angrily, pulling at the collar of his knights' outfit.
You felt kind of sorry for the short man; he had not only clothing, but armour as well, which must have turned his into a roast. Your cloak made you heat up, but at least the hood kept the sun away from your face. Your staff, which was still wedged between you and your bag, had begun to be more irritating than earlier, as it now was causing friction which heated up your back even more.
"You're telling me." You mumble, adjusting where the straps of your bag sat.
"So, if you don't mind me asking," Karkat begins, "why are you going to the Rage Kingdom?"
Your breath hitches when you hear the sentence, you weren't sure if you could tell him. It takes a few moments before you can reply.
"I used to be enslaved by the Grand High Blood," you explain, you watch as Karkat's eyes widen, "I was a magician that did his bidding, but one day I escaped and kept on the run. But apparently that wasn't good enough because the village I settled in got attacked by his minions."
There's a silence between the three of you, you glance over to see that Karkat seemed to still be processing the information.
"So, you're going to stop him?" Karkat speaks in disbelief.
"That or I'll die trying." You state.
You lift your hand up and grasp onto the pendant that swung around your neck, "I swear it."
