Chapter 11

As soon as you step onto the grassy field of the Blood Kingdom you grin happily. You take a deep breath, taking in the full brightness of the sun. You glance over at Eridan to see him smiling; his eyes closed as he also took in the warm light. Since you grew up in the Hope Kingdom, which was completely forest, and the Rage Kingdom, which was always cloudy, you practically never got this much sun. You guessed the same went for Eridan.

'Wow, I really missed the sun.' Rose sighs beside you.

The three of you stay silent as you collectively enjoy the sun. You open your eyes once again, squinting as you looked at where the sun was.

'There are a few more hours until sunset.' You think to yourself.

"Alright, let's get going." You say and you all slowly make your way through the open field.

Your smile never dropped from your face as you continued to walk. It had been a while since you had been to the Blood Kingdom. The last time you were here was many months ago after you had escaped the clutches of the Grand High Blood. During that time you were terrified and your only thought was to get far away from the Rage Kingdom. But now that you looked around with more care, the Kingdom was truly spectacular.

You glance over at Eridan to see that he was also looking around at the bright sights around him. For a moment, your eyes meet, before you look back forward. You could feel your cheeks heat up from embarrassment, but you just ignored it, hoping he would bring it up.

"Maybe we should stop to eat." you say, not removing your eyes from their current sight on the horizon.

"Yeah, sounds good." Eridan replies.

"Alright, let's find somewhere shady we can rest."

Eridan, Rose and you continue to walk, looking around for any trees that could be used for shade. You cease walking when you notice something in the distance.

'Oh shit, how could I forget about that?' You think to yourself.

"What is it (y/n)?" Eridan asks.

You snap out of your thoughts and glance over at Eridan, who was a few feet ahead of you. You point forward and Eridan follows your finger.

"Is that a river?" He asks, squinting in an attempt to see it better.

"Yeah," you sigh, "just past the borders is a sort of moat like river."

"And you didn't mention this earlier?" Eridan groans.

"I forgot," you shrug, "I've been through a fair bit, so it slipped my mind."

"Well, we might as well keep going." Eridan sighs and continues to walk.

You huff as you continue moving forward, your feet kind of hurt, but you couldn't imagine how much pain Eridan was in. He had stepped away from you a while ago so he didn't have you to lean on.

The trees begin to shade you as you finally reach the river. You walk up to a fairly large tree and sit down against it. You were facing the river as you open up the bag that sat next to you. Eridan sits down next to you, leaning against you instead of the tree so he could still see the wide expanse of water.

You continue to rustle through your bag, humming as you do so. You pull out two sandwiches that had been wrapped up. You hand one to Eridan and begin to unwrap yours.

'Aren't you forgetting something?'

You pause just before you take a bite of your sandwich. You look down to see Rose looking straight at you.

"Right, sorry Rose." You chuckle.

You sit your sandwich on your lap and begin to look through your bag once again. You pull out a container with fish in it and open it. You sit in on the ground and Rose begins eating. You nod and pick up your sandwich, taking a bite. You look back out at the river in front of you.

"So, how did you cross last time?" Eridan asks, making you look back at him.

"Well, last time there was a ferryman that kindly took me across," you reply, "but I don't think he'll be here for a while."

You can hear Eridan groan in frustration and you giggle. You turn to see Eridan frowning at you.

"Oh don't be such a baby," you chuckle, "we'll find a way across."

"That's going to be difficult," Eridan says, rolling his eyes, "unless we get another ride."

You hum and turn back to the river, taking another bite of your lunch. You continue to eat in silence until you're all finished. You shove the wrapping of the sandwich back into your bag and pick up the container which contained Rose's fish. You close the container and shove it away.

"How's your leg?" you ask.

"Fine," he replies, his mouth full of food, "it doesn't hurt as much."

"That's good," you nod, "because as soon as you finish eating we're going to have to get going."

Eridan looked back over at you, raising a brow, "where to? We can't exactly walk over the water."

"Well, there's probably a village or something along the river," you suggest, "they'll have a way over the river."

"Fair enough." Eridan shrugs and shoves the last of his sandwich into his mouth.

The both of you stand up, as you're getting up Rose jumps onto your shoulder. You huff as you slip your bag back on.

"You really can't just walk, can you?" you sigh.

Rose doesn't reply and you grunt in displeasure. You turn to Eridan, who already had his bag on.

"Well, let's hope we find a village."
