twenty - I Didn’t Know It Was Mother’s Day

‘’Why is she in here?’’ Luna questions with wide eyes, her head moving from side to side to look at Clarke and Abby for answers as her and her people crowded the infirmary. ‘’Why are they both in here?’’

‘’A lot of things happened after you send them off,’’ Abby shades with a small shrug of her shoulders. ‘’If you were here like a good mother should-’’

‘’Mom,’’ Clarke hissed, peering over her shoulder while her body was hunched, fixing a bed up for the little girl that was so close to Luna’s side. ‘’Bring the little girl over here, I’ll send Brandi back to her room for the rest of her treatment.’’

Luna shakes her head vigorously. ‘’I’m confused, what treatment? What about Tristan?’’

She jumps nearly out of her skin when two gentle hands were placed on her shoulders. When she turns to Bellamy, she cools under his touch but was still curious as to what happened to her only remainder of family.

‘’Battle wounds,’’ He briefly explains. ‘’They’ll make it through. We’re sure on it.’’

She peers over Tristan's physique, witnessing the delicate position he was in. Those in charge of more specifically the medical field walked around him, as if he didn’t even exist.

‘’Are you sure about that?’’ She questions, her gaze lingering on his pale features.

‘’Mom?’’ Brandi calls out after sitting up. She practically froze when the two made eye contact. The world really must be ending if she had another chance to see her biological mother again.

‘’Come on, Brandi, you gotta go,’’ Clarke orders softly, gathering some of her things from under her bed.

‘’What is she doing here?’’ She asks the blonde, her voice hushed but harsh. By the look of her tight countenance, it was clear Brandi wasn’t very forgiving on the whole long missing mother situation. If Tristan was awake, she’d be sure that he would agree right along with her.

Clarke looks back back up with a hair flip, maintaining her squat on the ground while she spoke. ‘’They need us, Brandi.’’

She simply shrugs her shoulders. ‘’Where were they when we needed them?’’

She tilts her head to the side, pondering over a response that counter Brandi’s point. ‘’When you give good, you’ll get good in return.’’

Clarke stand back up with a sigh, retrieving Brandi’s bag full off personal belongings from under the bed and on the sheets with her. ‘’Don’t even worry about it, they shouldn’t be here for long.’’

Her dull brown orbs wavered from Luna as Bellamy leaned into her side, excusing himself before making his way over to them.

‘’Let’s go,’’ He breathes out as he retrieves the straps of her duffel bag in his grasp. ‘’You’re back to bunking with me again.’’

Of all times to cause a scene, now wasn’t the time. Although, she did get injured, and there was a reason why she was removed to sleep by herself and not with somebody else, especially a man. How was that gonna work out?

Luna’s eye’s were wide and attentive, watching every single motion created from both Bellamy and Brandi, as they slowly made their way out of the infarmy and towards a private room. Her mouth opened and closed, like a fish out of water. How she desperately wanted to call after her, but then what? What do you say to your daughter after you dropped her off to be forgotten once again?

‘’You shouldn’t be too hard on her,’’ Bellamy murmurs while holding the strap of her bag against his shoulder while her fragile body leaned majority of her weight into his.

She cocks a brow. ‘’Are you taking her side?’’

He bows his head and shakes it, his mess of curls bouncing all over the place as he does so and sighs. ‘’I’m just saying, that you really can’t expect much from what she did.’’

She looks away with a scoff, a sour grimace conquering her features.

‘’What was she suppose to do, Brandi?’’ He proposed. ‘’Hmm? Drop everything to take care of you and Tristan? Those days are gone. You guys were probably going to react badly anyway if you knew beforehand, considering how you guys are..’’

‘’Your point?’’

‘’I’m not saying that you should forgive her,’’ He grunts, lifting her back up into a more firm grip. ‘’But don’t go anarchic over something that couldn't have been fixed from the start..’’

His genuine advice had sunk in through her stubborn captivity while he finally arrived to their room. Opening the door, he holds her close when adjusting their stance sideways, given that they both couldn’t go through the door at once.

‘’I can take it from here,’’ Brandi breathes, slithering her arm from around his broad shoulders before limping the rest of the way to the bed. Her features cringed when letting her weight drop against the mattress.

‘’So,’’ She clears her throat. His hair shifts across his forehead when he turns around unexpectedly after putting her bag down, not expecting another conversation to abroad. ‘’Where are you gonna sleep?’’

He breaks out into a sideway grin. ‘’On the floor.’’

Her lips scrunch towards the side and she shakes her head. ‘’No, I don’t think so.’’

He shifted his weight from his right to his left leg and counters, ‘’I can’t sleep next to you, at least not for now.’’

‘’But it makes me feel bad knowing you have to sleep on the floor because of me,’’ She pursed her bottom lip out into a pout.

His smile never faded, but instead, grew of amusement. It was rare, where a moment like this, limited and precious would appear. Though, in every one, he’d always take a moment, quick enough to cover up before she could notice how endearing she was. Whether would do a small twitch or a glint in her eye would appear whenever she felt a genuine vibe of happiness.

‘’What?’’ She asks with a shake of her head.

He shook his head back. Instead, he walked over to her until he stood in front of her. Cupping both sides of her face with his rough calloused hands, he leans down to press his lips against her temple.

Once he pulled away, she looks back with what’s left of the pout remaining on her lips, causing his sight to flicker from her lips to back to her gaze.

She swipes her tongue across her bottom lip and whispers breathlessly, ‘’You gonna kiss me or are you just gonna be standing there?’’

He holds her head in his hands and took this to the advantage of pulling her into a fiery and passionate kiss full of lost time, wants and needs. Overall created into the perfect form of lust.

Her arms betray her as they make a return around his shoulders while his hands traveled from her cheeks to her thighs and was sure to lift her up with a reasonable amount of force.

Letting her back fall gently against the mattress while he hovers over her physique, he gave her bottom lip a farewell with a small tug on its chaste kiss down towards her neck. A fan of his moist breath on her neck, then the tender brush of his lips. Burning as they make contact with her neck. A hand runs through her hair, as the kisses become harder and more urgent, in search for spot to make her writhe and cry of anticipation. Another hand slides around her waist, and pulls her close to his pine scented body.

A whimper fell from her lips once contact was made with the skin just under her ear.

‘’I need you,’’ He breathes out, voice now raspy and rugged from the intense moment shared. ‘’I wish I could have you now.’’

Reality fell back on her chest when Bellamy pulled away from the crook of her neck. ‘’I have to go see Raven and Clarke. Something’s wrong if the signals are already starting.’’

It was like it all went through one ear and out the other. She knew her mood wasn’t going to wear off while he was gone.

He climbs back off of her after giving her hips a small squeeze. ‘’I’ll be back in a few.’’

She froze in her place after limping around the corner, entering the infirmary. While Tristan was on one end of the room, lying unconscious and at peace even with two bullet wounds injected into him, Luna occupied the other side of the room with Nyko, surrounding the little girl that Brandi held little envy for.

Abby and Jackson stood over the two, watching just as Brandi was from afar as Luna, her mother, whisper a soothing chant in the little girl's ear.

‘’We got to stop meeting like this, princess,’’ Murphy smirks, alarming her of his presence that, only for the moment, she lack knowledge of.

Her gaze shifted over to the sentimental scene dampening the mood in the room, and she purses her lips. ‘’Maybe I should come back later.’’

His features fell flat, causing the need to push himself off of the wall that he was currently leaning against and stepped in front of her to prevent from going anywhere. Out of all the people that he’s gotten to known, this was the first person who he genuinely watched out for. Even though he knew that she didn’t need it, Brandi Potter never truly made him feel like trash, and he didn’t want to screw that up. He’s done that enough to last him a lifetime. ‘’Don’t-’’

She whips around, looking back at him with wide eyes and furrowed brows.

He looks down at his feet and sighs. ‘’You can’t avoid her forever. That’s not a life to live.’’

‘’When you love someone, you do things for what they need best,’’ She shrugs her shoulder. ‘’How is giving up your children a way of showing love? It sounds like rejection and selfishness.’’

He shakes his head. ‘’I don’t think leaving was the last thing she would have wanted. Do you see how she’s holding onto that little girl? She’s had to have been the same way with you.’’

Looking back at Luna, letting out silent cries into Nyko’s side once the little blonde’s chest stopped heaving in an up and down motion. Looking at John, she shakes her head. ‘’You didn’t see how she was with that little girl when we were on that boat. You could see how much she had loved her. I don’t think any of that was there once she spoke to me, let alone look at me.’’

She cringed at the suppressing headache growing and tells Murphy a final time before walking off, ‘’Like I said, I’ll be back later.’’

‘’Oh, finally,’’ Brandi exaggerates when Bellamy enters the room. She lets a small grunt fall from her lips as she sits up. ‘’Where did you go? I thought you just went to go talk to Raven and Clarke?’’

‘’I did,’’ He smiles softly. ‘’It turned out to be more than that.’’

She furrows her brows at him and watches him as he takes a seat next to her. ‘’Brandi, we got less than two months before the radiation hits.’’

She didn’t say nothing.

Instead, she rests her head on his shoulder and reach for his hand to intertwine her fingers with his. Raising that same hand she holds, she presses the back of it with her lips, letting it linger on his skin before letting go.

‘’Are you okay?’’

She lifts her head to look at him and although she couldn’t tell, he was caught off guard. Not one person just sat down and asked one another how they felt. It was always, what are we going to do, instead. And the fact that she asks those three simple words was just another reason to love her.

‘’I don’t know,’’ He mumbles. ‘’You?’’

‘’I don’t know, either,’’ She mumbles back. ‘’It’s just all-’’

‘’Too much,’’ He finishes.

‘’I know this too depressing to hear, but it really feels like there’s no way out,’’ She tells him. ‘’It’s always been me against the world and it feels like I’m losing.’’

‘’I know the feeling,’’ He agrees. ‘’Like, uh-’’

She furrows her brows at him, taking note of the hesitation. ‘’Nevermind.’’

Brandi pushes herself off of him to face him. ‘’What? No, tell me.’’

‘’Remember when I told you my mom was floated and Octavia was locked up on the Ark?’’ She nods her head, eager for him to continue. ‘’I’ve never felt so alone in my life. The worst part was, no matter what I had said, did, I couldn’t save both of them. I wouldn’t want anybody else feeling that way.’’

He gives her hand a firm squeeze. ‘’I promise no matter what, I will make sure you win in life.’’

A corner of her lips faintly slanted to the side. ‘’Let’s not make promises we can’t keep.’’

‘’I’d like to say that I keep my words,’’ He smirks.

She cringes, but she couldn’t successfully hold back the matching smirk on his features. ‘’In your own Blake notion. Like how you brought up your mother because you want things to go better between me and mine.’’

He shrugs his shoulders. ‘’Eh.’’

‘’You’re the worst,’’ She giggles while standing up.

‘’She feels bad,’’ He eggs on.

‘’Who wouldn’t when you when you leave this,’’ She remarks before slapping her butt. Bellamy’s eyes went wide before letting out a roar of laughter, Brandi doing the same not long after. These were the moments she savored Bellamy. Where they can laugh and joke about anything and everything.

Eventually, Brandi limped back into the infirmary, silently grateful to bump into no one that would associate with her on a conversation. She just wanted to sit with her brother in peace.

The infirmary was quiet. Those that had slowly died from the were wrapped in bodysuits, or what was closest to one with the tinfoil material.

But, of course, it was all spoken too soon when Luna was caught standing over Tristan's bed.

‘’What the hell do you think you’re doing?’’ She exclaims. She turns towards Brandi with arched brows, surprise the brunette was even speaking to her, given how stubborn she was. She would know.

‘’I have a right to worry about my kids,’’ She prompts, as if she had a point proven.

Her lips grew into a smirk as she scoffs. ‘’Now we’re your kids.’’

‘’I know that leaving you guys like that, again, wasn’t the best decision, but-’’

She shakes her head but her stance was stiff. As if she moving any further would cause discomfort. ‘’There’s no, but’s. It was just wrong, and then you want to tell us then and there too, only to kick us out of your life again? What was the point of that?’’

‘’What did you want me to do, Brandi?’’ Her voice got louder as she spoke, growing as quickly as her irritation. ‘’Drop everything I built as a society, to be your mother again? I lost those days, but I thought it’d be best if you at least known, that I’m still here, I’m still around for you guys.’’

‘’Oh please,’’ She waves off and began to pace.

‘’What? What now?’’

She stared at her blankly, her thoughts and emotions raging at this point. ‘’You were never here for us.’’

Luna’s features grew stern and her jaw clenched. ‘’I was there to hold you when you both were first born. I made sure you knew how to walk, hold a sword, throw a punch, I killed someone to protect both of you.’’

Her bottom lip began to tremble. ‘’You never left my side, just like I never left yours. So don’t stand there and tell me, I was never here for you two. Because if I had a choice to stay, I would have.’’

Brandi’s gaze lowered, feeling the sense of another presence occuring during their conversation. She turns around to see Abby watching with wide eyes.

‘’I-I’m-’’ She stammers. ‘’I didn’t mean to interrupt but, Luna..’’

She gets closer to inspect Luna’s facial features closely. She breathes out. ‘’That’s impossible.’’

Brandi shakes her head. ‘’What?’’

She placed a hand on her forehead and neck to double check for body temperature. ‘’Your fever went down.’’

Brandi hangs her head to the side, still clueless of what was happening. ‘’Which means?’’

‘’Her body is rejecting the radiation-’’

‘’Say nothing,’’ Luna points at Brandi who already had her mouth open for a snarky remark. She clamps her lips shut and purses them, her weight dropped on one leg while the other was propped out.

‘’Go on, doc.’’

‘’Your body is rejecting the radiation without giving any sorts of medical treatment,’’ Abby continues to explain. ‘’Which must include one variable..’’

Her thoughts were strain and broken, processing any background knowledge that could refer to a sensible conclusion. ‘’A variable that makes you- Brandi and Tristan included, different from everyone else.’’

Brandi shakes her head again. ‘’Okay, I’m not in the mood for riddles. What’s the variable?’’

‘’Our blood,’’ Luna plainly informs. ‘’We’re a family of nightblood.’’
