(Lukas' P.O.V)
Not much happened yesterday. Despite it being a Sunday all I really did was sit down, relax and just breathe. There were so many things going on at once that it was just nice to relax. Today's a Monday, and I stare at the clock impatiently, the longer hand is a bit past the one.
I finish my brother kneeding the dough for our pastries, and the chimes finally ring throughout the café. Feeling a bit excited, I washed my hands really quickly and peeked my head out, instantly making eye contact with Mathias. He gives a cheery smile, but I notice he is with someone else.
I can't tell who it is, but I'll assume it's a girl for now. She has light blonde hair, and is she is short. The sun reflecting off of her hair makes it look almost white instead of blonde. Her violet eyes shine with joy, and is sharp enough to be able to see a mile away.
In other words, she's hot, and seeing her sit down with Mathias makes me want to punch them both in the face.
Her smile is directed towards the Danish boy, and he smiles back just as cheerfully. It hurts because they look like a perfect couple. Are they on a date?
Ugh, Lukas, snap out of it! You can't just jump to conclusions... But... They look so perfect together. And she's so cute too. I can't ever compete with a girl.
Mathias likes me though. At least that's the signs he's showing. I'm going to be guilty for this later but I'll do anything in my power to have their date gone wrong.
After handing everyone else's orders, I go over to their table and ask if they would like anything.
"The usual Lukas!" Replies Mathias, flashing his smile.
"I'd like... A karelian pie please!"
I notice that she has an accent. It's hard to place which one though. It sounds very similar to Hungarian or Estonian? Maybe Spanish? Wait, definitely Finnish.
"Coming right up." I replied, and wrote it down in the small notepad that I have.
"Ah, I'll be back, I just have to use the washroom quickly." She got out of her seat and walked towards the washroom.
Mathias smiled at her, and then made eye contact with me.
There was an awkward pause before I decided to ask who the company was.
"May I ask who you are with? I'm used to seeing you come here alone."
"Aww, Norge. Are you saying I have no friends? Well, he's my date."
"I-I see. Okay. Cool. Have fun on your date." I gave him a half smile and walked back towards the counter.
I am such an idiot to think that Mathias was single. This is so unfair.
I don't really hang out with him that much in school... And... This is so frustrating.
I wish I can just turn off my emotions sometimes, then life would be so much easier.
We're not even together so why do I feel so hurt over this? That they look so... Perfect together. I convinced myself that I was just having a crush. I hate feeling like this. I can't let my emotions take over how I react.
Seeing the Finnish boy return to the table, and them holding hands...
It makes me want to do everything in my power to make their date go wrong.
A karelian pie? Ha. He deserves something else. A beavertail dessert then.
I placed Mathias' order onto the tray and the misplaced order on as well.
I carried it back to their table and played their orders onto their table.
"Okay then, hope you enjoy!"
"Thank you!" Replied Mathias
"Wait hold on! I think you gave me the wrong order." Said the lilac-eyed boy.
"Oh... Sorry. I guess I got carried away again. What did you order again?"
"A karelian pie."
"Okay, I'll get that for you."
I took back the misplaced order.
"They don't usually get their orders mixed up here, Tino." Mathias said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"It's okay! It happens."
Great, he's the happy-go-lucky type too.
Seeing their positivity-ness rise makes me want to puke.
I delivered everyone else's orders before finally getting the Karelian pie.
I think his name was Tino, if I remember correctly.
Heading back towards the table near the side, I couldn't help but notice the bright beams of light from the sun reflecting off of the couple's figures.
It seemed so angelic and destined like they were meant to be. Their eyes looking into each other's the smiles that never seem to fade. They look like they are having so much fun together.
Hesitantly, I placed the plate of pie onto the table.
"I apologize for the mishap earlier. Hopefully, this makes up for it." I said, glancing towards the shorter male.
"Of course! It smells delicious." He takes a small bite before he grins towards the plate.
"It's better than I thought! It reminds me of my grandma's cooking."
"Thank you! Hope you enjoy the rest of it."
" Oh, I definitely will!"
"See? Told you this place has the best pastries ever!" Said Mathias, sipping his coffee.
"Alright then. I'll leave you two lovebirds at it then."
"Huh? Wait we're not-"
I left before he could finish that sentence. It's too much to take, seeing the one you like liking someone else. I didn't expect it to be so painful.
Lukas, get a grip on yourself! Stop being so emotional, it's annoying.
I look back at the table, embarrassed by my actions and saw Mathias leaning over the table, whispering something into the other's ears.
Great. Now I humiliated myself in front of Mathias' date. I should be wanting him to be happy. I guess it's just too much to take in for me in a day.
I served the other customers, a bit in a daze from my other thoughts.
"Can I just say that I love it here? It's amazing how it's a family run business with just the two of you. How do you manage to get everything done?" Asked a customer, paying for their bill. I noticed that they are leaving a generous tip.
"Thank you so much. And we aren't always able to do it on our own. When we're struggling we have our friends to lean back on. Also this is a small business, but it's enough for my brother and I to get by. I guess it's all in time management."
"You two are amazing. Keep up the great work!"
It's customers like these that make my day.
They remind me that I'm truly not fully alone.
Mathias raised his hand, signalling me over.
"Hi, how may I help you?"
"We'd like the bill please."
"Of course!" I handed them their bill.
After they paid, they started to get up to leave.
"Also... Mathias and I... We aren't dating. Just to let you know." Tino smiled at me, before leaving.
"I... Thank you."
After behaving like a douchebag towards him, I can't believe he had the heart in him to tell me that. He could have played along.
"Your welcome! Have a good day, and I'll see you again soon."
I think I potentially made a new friend.
He made my day.
