Crush
I dashed off to school, a bit angry with Emil.
He forgot to wake me up and now I overslept!!
I'm going to be fifteen minutes late to class, ugh. This is a wonderful way to start the day. I slammed the door open, and a thud followed after, the sound echoing through the halls.
... just because I'm late doesn't mean I'm going to be a dick and hurt others just to get to class.
I mumbled a sorry, and offered a hand to help out.
I couldn't believe who I encountered though. Staring right back at me, was the familiar light blue eyes that immediately lit up when I caught my reflection in them.
"Lukas!"
"Mathias? Ah, sorry about earlier. I really must get going." I began to sprint off, but Mathias had to grab me by the wrist.
"Wait! I didn't think we'd meet outside of your workplace. It's truly a miracle. Do you think we could eat lunch together? Please?"
"Okay. Where would you like to meet up?"
"Hmm... In the music hall?"
"Alright. I'll see you at lunch."
I proceeded to scurry to class, successfully opening my locker and slamming my backpack as well as my coat in. Twenty minutes late to class. Ooh dear.
After grabbing my binders, I went to the office to sign in late. The teacher behind the counter gave me a smile and handed me a late pass.
I arrived in homeroom and prepared for the struggles of the day.
--Timeskip to lunch--
I'm at the spot where Mathias told me to meet up with him.
In the music hall, and the hall is already crowded by a line of students going back and forth to their lockers. This is a very inconvenient place. Why didn't he say the library or somewhere else?
Gosh, I really should have told him before now that I think about it.
"Lukas! There you are! Let's go to the cafeteria first, I forgot to pack my lunch. Let's go then." He grabbed my arm and led me through the crowd.
"... I can walk myself there, y'know?"
He didn't respond, and I figured it was because of the crowd of people.
His hand is welcomly warm, and it feels a bit tingly where he touched me on the arm.
When we finally made it to the cafeteria, which is just as crowded, we managed to get a seat near the stairs.
"Wait here for one moment. Oh, would you like anything?" He asked.
I glance towards his face, making eye contact with his eyes. Then it trailed down to his lips-
"Hello? Earth to Lukas?"
"Hmm?"
"I was asking you if you'd like anything."
"No, it's fine."
"You look a bit red tho-"
"I said it's okay. I appreciate the concern." I quickly replied.
He finally left me alone, and I checked my reflection off of my phone.
My cheeks are tinted pink...
It's just really hot in here, that's all.
The place where Mathias' hand made contact with still feels tingly.
It's a strange feeling. I rubbed my arm in a circular motion, trying to get this weird feeling to go away. Just thinking that he made eye contact with me, and I swear I saw the whole world in his eyes with cotton candy-like clouds swirling around them.
"Back. Miss me?" Mathias grinned.
"I didn't even notice you were gone."
"Ouch. I've been wounded! Why are you so mean?" He faked a gasp and slapped his hand against his chest.
I simply rolled my eyes.
"It's a defense mechanism."
"Well, anyways-"
"Lukas? Is th't really y'u?" A voice interupted Mathias. No one has a voice that deep unless...
"Berwald?" I looked behind me, eye landing towards the figure. The cafeteria was instantly quiet, a few people scurrying out to leave the tense atmosphere.
"Who else w'uld it be?"
"Huh. I didn't think you'd be at the same school as me."
"Sm'll world. Mind if I sit d'wn?"
I looked over to Mathias as if asking if it would be okay for him to join us.
"Go ahead." The Dane had his usual smile on, but his eyes sparked danger. Like he wanted to strangle Berwald so hard.
I didn't notice I was staring into his eyes, and I felt my cheeks burn when I got caught.
It's not my fault Mathias has to have this magical gravity defying hair. The striking blue eyes. A gorgeous smile.
His personality may be annoying, but it's what makes him stand out amongst everyone else.
Wtf, I sound like a teenage girl in highschool with raging hormones, which I'm NOT.
... Mathias stands out too much that's all.
"Is there something on my face?" He asked, taking his napkin and wiping his cheeks and the corners of his mouth.
"No, I'm just looking at the poster behind you."
"Oh."
"Wh't courses are you taking, Lukas?" Berwald asked.
"This semester I have Vocals, Math, Business and History."
"I see..." Berwald glanced towards the clock.
"What about you?"
"I h've Civics, Science, English and M'th. Also, can I borrow your ph'ne for a moment? I need to make a quick call."
"I don't see why not."
I handed him my phone, and caught Mathias in the corner of my eye glaring down Berwald.
After a few minutes, Berwald handed me back my phone.
An awkward silence quickly followed. I didn't want to stay any longer, and for once, I've never been glad that the bell rang.
"I'll see you later. Thanks for keeping me company." I said, heading off to my next class.
