Chapter 4

Ugh, math tests.

And, you know, tests in general.

Our math teacher, Mr. Hornwitz, just announced that our first math test is coming up and that we should study.  Which I won't, because I never study for any test.

The bell released us from our boredom and I sprinted over to Dash and grabbed her arm.

"Hey, wait up, Dash!" I called to her.  She turned around, surprised, but relaxed when she saw it was just me and not someone who was trying to kidnap her.

"Hey, I-" she started, but I cut her off.

"Did you see his sweater?" I giggled, remarking on Mr. Hornwitz's sweater.  It was a really puffy, really fuzzy clash of purple and orange.  I may not be a fashion expert, but purple and orange do NOT go together.

Dash and I started laughing uncontrollably, attracting several odd looks from various people.  We reached our respective lockers and gathered our science stuff before heading to Ms. Keja's class.

Unfortunately, Dash and I didn't sit next to each other.  I sat down in my seat and studied the giraffe poster on the wall.

Ms. Keja announced that we would be getting our science books today.  I payed attention to hear my number (13) and then zoned out until a certain obnoxious boy decided to share.

"Hey, I got 37!" Bolt yelled, as if anyone in the room cared what his book number was.  Mentally rolling my eyes, I went back to staring aimlessly at the poster.

Then Ms. Keja started assigning people to lab partners.  Once again, I listened only long enough to find out my partner (Ash) and returned to staring at the happy cartoon giraffe.

When Mrs. Keja told us to go sit next to our partners, I reluctantly got up and glanced around the room.  I snickered when I saw that Dash and Bolt were paired together.  Now that is going to be one awesome pair...

I moved towards Ash and sat down next to him.  He was really tall, and he currently had his hood pulled over his face.  Ash had a really deep voice, but hated talking and was very anti-social.

"So," I started.  No movement whatsoever.  "Hi.  You know me," I continued, "and it looks like we're lab partners."

"Yeah," he grunted, still not moving.  Well, science is going to be a blast this year.

After ten minutes of staring at the giraffe, the bell finally rang.  Relieved, I darted out into the hallway and left for orchestra.

Today we're getting our permanent seats in L.A.  I stood awkwardly in the front of the room next to Dash as everyone else gets assigned to a table.  Mrs. Keja, who's my L.A and science teacher, finally reaches the back table.

"Jackie, Aplo, Bolt, and Dash," she assigned us our spots.  Dash and I exchanged excited grins as we take our seats, which were unfortunately on a diagonal from each other.

Suddenly, Dash looked to her left and realized that she was sitting next to Bolt.

To put it lightly, she looked like she was about to murder him.  I snickered a little and glanced to my left and Aplo and I exchanged amused glances.  This is definitely going to an interesting year...

Bolt started poking Dash with a pencil.  She's pretending that she doesn't care, but I could tell she was reaching the end of her patience.  She finally snapped and grabbed his wrist.  He let out an obnoxious squeal and started yanking his hand away, but Dash holds it tight.  Suddenly, she released his wrist and he practically flew backwards and off his chair.  Dash, Aplo, and I started laughing as Ms. Keja intervened.

"Bolt?  What happened?" she asked, looking concerned.  As she neared our table, I fought to keep my face straight.  He told Ms. Keja that he was startled, although everyone in the room knows that that was a lie.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Dash snatch his only pencil and hide it under her book.  I started quietly giggling as he looked frantically for it.  When he ducked under the table to see if it had fallen, Dash replaced the pencil in its original position.  Bolt looked very confused.

And that's when language arts became my favorite class.

I found Dash in her room, reading.

"Sooooo, how do you like sitting next to Bolt?" I asked mischievously.

"Fine," she admitted cheerfully, "you saw how I snatched his pencil?  Of course I did... I was right across from her.  And I could tell that we were going to have so much fun this year.

Guys, I updated two chapters within a week of each other.  That NEVER happens.  And it won't, either, once I go back to gymnastics.  So don't expect if again.

Well enjoy these fast updates while they're here :)

And I'd mention everyone but I'm too lazy and you should all be grateful that I'm updating anyways.  :P
