Chapter 8: Uncovering | Oof
Oof sat with his feet hanging over the lava lake, enjoying the view of the Nether. He'd been in this dimension for almost two months, give or take. Oof had come to escape the war between Socks and Meme, but hadn't said anything before he left, since he didn't want to be dragged back to Memegod's team.
However, over the last couple of days, Oof had been feeling a type of dread. He didn't know why, but he wanted to make sure his friends were okay. Because of this, he had started to pack up the things around his house— that of which built out of warped planks and black stone.
Today, Oof had decided it was time to say goodbye to his peaceful home, and to head back to help stop Meme and Socks' fighting. He walked back to his house— which wasn't far from the lava lake— and rummaged through his chests one more time, pulling all of his items into his inventory and putting any that didn't fit into a little bag he'd made. Stepping back out the door, Oof turned to look back into what had truly become a home for him.
'I'll come back. I can always come back. Visit the area, for vacation or something, right?' Oof nodded to himself in a reassuring kind of way— smiling a bit at the idea of a vacation to the Nether, of all things— then stepped out onto the netherrack and started his trek back to the portal.
Oof had made a map when he'd first traveled to find a place to stay here, and now followed it back to where the entrance of this realm was. He was about 2,000 blocks away, so it was going to take a while to reach his destination. At least he had some apples to snack on.

Oof had made it to the portal relatively unscathed, even after being chased by hordes of piglins and attacked by ghasts— also known as 'Giant Floating Marshmallows', according to Meme. Oof glanced behind himself to look at the warm colors of the Nether one more time. "Cya in a bit, I guess," he whispered to himself, stepping into the purple glow of the portal.
His vision blurred, but after a tick, Oof could feel a light breeze against his back. He shivered, his body having gotten used to the heat of the Nether, rather than the cooler climate of the Over World.
Pulling his suit closer, Oof walked out from the purple mist, and looked around Socks' base. He'd gone through Socks' portal at the time because Nadwe's hadn't been built yet. The military-like area seemed to have been untouched for days, as dust had quickly gathered on the chests, furnaces, and crafting benches.
Oof blinked a couple times, a bewildered marching onto his cube face. "Blaza? Socks? Are you guys here?" he called before running to the large opening of the room he stood in. He turned the corner and looked behind the warehouse-like structure at the runway. Nobody stood there.
Oof shifted his gaze to the garden, which was broken, and any of the plants that hadn't been trampled or eaten were dry and drooping, clearly dead. No one was there, either. Next he ran to check the sleeping quarters. Still nothing. 'Where are they?' Oof thought, a little panicked.
He ran to the entrance of the base, vaulting over the wall that had been permanently jammed shut. Quickly, he dashed through the ruins of the village that had burned down due to the missiles that had been launched into the area.
Oof made his way to Meme's side of the map, passing what looked like a fast-food place standing right next to a gym. 'Which psychopath built that thing?' Oof thought to himself. Within about half an hour, he'd reached the much more magical looking base.
Kicking open the door to Memegod's burnt, collapsing house, Oof called out his name. "Memegod? Are you in here?" No response. Oof ran to the next house to the right: Nadwe's. "Hello? Child? You there?" Nothing either. Oof tried Tbh and Woolfster's houses, too. Same results. "Guys, come out! Please! This isn't funny!"
Oof waited for a tick, hoping for Nadwe or Tbh to pop their head around the corner of their house and say, "Hey! Haha! We got you good, didn't we?" Of course, that didn't happen, so Oof tried Laff's farm next.
Walking through the dying wheat was very unsettling. Even more disturbing was how messy Laff's house was. It was like someone had come in and wrecked the place in complete rage. 'Laff would never leave his house like this!' Oof thought.
He walked over and dusted one of the chests off. 'Where is everybody?' Oof thought, feeling a chill run down his spine. Instinctively, he opened the chest and looked inside. A book titled 'Don't Touch!' laid on top of a clutter of other stuff, glowing with an enchantment effect on it.
Oof picked it up and began to read:
[Day twelve of being in this SMP]
(Two days before the wedding)
{I can't seem to remember anything that has happened in the last week, so I'm going to be writing in this book just in case. Anyways, Dino said something about tunnels and stuff today, but I didn't really understand what he meant. He's acting a little strange...}
[Day thirteen of being in the SockSMP]
(One day before the wedding)
{Memegod seems kind of nervous. Don't really know how to help, but maybe some Laff Loafs will do the trick, am I right? He also said he wanted to wear the dress, and that Wiktoria wanted to wear the tux. Seems pretty amusing. The swapping clothes part, and the talking to a cow.}
Day fourteen had been burned out of the book. Many pages after that had been torn out as well. The next legible entry to the book was day 27.
[Day twenty-seven of the SSMP]
(No specific timing was written)
{I keep having dreams in this dark place. And there's a person who's always there... A robot who's always there? I'm not really sure. He's kind of intimidating. Just a dream, though.}
Oof stared at the writing, then flipped to the next page. It was sadly blank, along with all the pages after it. Oof sighed softly. 'What happened?'

{CHAPTER NOTES}
Summary: After staying in the Nether for so long, Oof decides it's time to go give his friends a visit. When he gets back to the Over World, he can't find any of his friends. While searching around, he finds a book Laff supposedly wrote that really is quite suspicious. (Word Count: 1063)
[NEW NOTE]: To restate what Past-Me said— Oof is a plot device and I'm only using his perspective in this chapter. That's it. (That's sarcasm, but it's basically what Past-Me was doing. I'm going to work on fixing that now, of course.) Nether boy's perspective will likely be used more often in the future. I actually really like the Nether thing because it makes Oof a little different from everyone else. I wanted to work on world building a bit more, which means making different species and creatures out of the characters. I'm doing that in any way I can, so the human to creature ratio is actually 1:1 in our current cast of twelve! Also, I don't think I ever mentioned it, but I actually removed Oompa from the story and never explained it. So, if you care, I just didn't know how to write Oompa properly. Perhaps I'll figure out a way to mention him in future dialog, though. :D
(Old Note): Hello there friend! Alright, so I realized Oof had kind of just disappeared, and decided to give him an important part, since he isn't to commonly seen in videos anymore. Anyways, I had to come up with an idea of where he'd been (obviously), and now he gets to be the character who's knowledgeable about the Nether! This doesn't add much to his character, but I think it's kind of cool. Chapter summary: Oof has apparently been staying in the Nether for the whole war, but misses his friends, and is worried. He goes back to the Over World to find that the once action filled land had become deserted. He looks almost everywhere, but is unable to find any of his friends. Then he finds Laff's diary of a wimpy kid, and reads it with slight suspicion. (Word Count: 1005)
