Heaven's burning

Elijah spent a few hours talking to Rosaline and Alistair catching up with them for them hours Elijah almost forgot about the world around them, but the real world broke the trio up when Rosaline and Alistair were told they had to return to Denerim.

"Elijah, why don't you come with us?" Rosaline asked making Elijah's eyes widen in shock.

"Wha- what do you mean?"

"Come back to Denerim with us, you could be our magic adviser or something" Elijah would be lying if he said the offer wasn't tempting him but then he saw Dorian talking to Syllia about staying and the blush returned to his face.

"I would love nothing more, but I think I'm gonna stay here, but I promise that I will come and visit" Both Alistair and Rosaline quickly followed Elijah's view and raised their eyebrows teasingly at someone who they saw as their little brother, despite him being older than them.

"Ooooooooohhhhh, I get what you're saying" Rosaline sang teasingly seeing the blush deepen on Elijah. "You like him don't you?" Elijah became flustered.

"I don't know what you're on about! He's just my friend!" Alistair smirked at this.

"You keep telling yourself that" Elijah threw his hands in the air in exasperation before walking away. "We'll be in touch about the visit!" Alistair called after him chuckling, whilst Rosaline walked up to Dorian and grabbed his arm to pull him to the side.

"Dorian is it?" He nodded. "I just wanted to let you know, if you hurt Elijah in any way, I will personally hunt you down and kill you" Dorian looked both scared and confused at this but before he could ask she patted his arm and smiled kindly as if she hadn't just threatened him. "Don't worry about it for now" Dorian nodded slowly before walking away to find Elijah stroking Bruno's head outside the castle gates his face red in embarrassment.

After the group and agents had travelled back to Haven, luckily this time because of the Herald being there Elijah could travel without the chains. Elijah was given a tent outside of the village where he could sleep he was happy with anything as long as he could help with the Breach. But on the first night back he tried to get some sleep but just like all of the nights on the road nightmares filled his dreams. He was able to hide it on the road, or at least he thought he had in reality every time he woke up in a cold sweat and stayed up the rest of the night Dorian had noticed Elijah waking up terrified. This night had been the same but instead of just lying in his bed roll pretending to be asleep Elijah got out of his bed roll and walked to the fire near his tent and sat in front of it. In the darkness he could see Bruno fast asleep outside the tent the cold air hit Elijah, but the fire warmed him enough to withstand it.

"Couldn't sleep, I see?" Elijah looked up to see Dorian walking up to him.

"Not tonight" Elijah mumbled tiredly.

"Do you mean not again?" Elijah looked to him surprised. "I know you haven't gotten a good night's sleep since we left Redcliff castle" Elijah looked down. "What's keeping you up?" Elijah took a shaky breath.

"I remembered everything from that year" Dorian's eyes widened in shock before turning sympathetic, remembering what had happened to Elijah in that year. "It was only small flashes but now I remember everything from the stitches and the chains to what I did" Dorian placed his hand on Elijah's shoulder.

"You were forced into servitude; you didn't choose to do anything" Elijah felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes.

"That still doesn't change the fact that I can remember seeing the terrified faces of all the innocent people I slaughtered" The tears now fell from his eyes; Dorian was unsure on what to do in this case.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Elijah was only able to swallow back some tears before nodding his head. Elijah then told Dorian everything he was witnessing in his nightmares, Dorian listened intently giving Elijah his full attention. As the night went on Dorian talked to Elijah, telling Elijah stories of his childhood. Only when he was halfway through a story did he notice that Elijah had fallen asleep his head rested against Dorian's shoulder. Dorian smiled down at him before sighing turning back to the fire and pulled a book out of his coat pocket.

A few days had passed since that night and since Elijah had spoken to Dorian about his nightmares he was able to sleep soundly. He had also met the other companions properly as he was unable when he joined. Most of the companions still didn't trust him thinking he was there to kill them, Vivienne going so far to threaten him to send him back to the fade herself. Elijah made a mental note to stay as far away from her as possible. Solas and Varric however were quite kind to him. Although Varric had given him a nickname of Elipala, which confused Elijah at first but when Varric pointed to his horns that looked a bit like an impala Elijah just jokingly rolled his eyes. Solas however was more intrigued by Elijah's powers and his abilities in the fade, Elijah was just as impressed by Solas's abilities to befriend spirits. After a few days the Herald took a group of the mages up to the Breach which they had managed to close, and that night Elijah hung out with Dorian happy to see the people celebrating.

"So now the Breach is sealed what do you plan to do now?" Dorian asked in honesty Elijah was unsure he had planned to leave as soon as he could but now he didn't really want to leave.

"I don't know, what about you?" As Dorian went to open his mouth a scream cut him off making them both snap their heads in the direction of the scream. All across the mountain facing them was thousands of soldiers marching towards them.

"Dorian we need you over here!" Syllia yelled to him. Dorian looked to Elijah.

"Don't worry I'll be fine; I'll help the townsfolk" Elijah's eyes glowed and Bruno ran to him as he saw the army charging closer and closer. Suddenly a large roar rung out when Elijah saw the elder one his mind numbing remembering the year his body began to shake when he remembered everything again. He was suddenly brought back to reality when the Archdemon looking dragon fired a shot at the village causing the people to scream. Elijah jumped to action running into the village seeing Templars infused with red lyrium going to attack a village woman Elijah quickly fired a purple shard piercing the soldiers head. The woman looked to Elijah as he ran to her holding out his hand. "Come on, I'll get you to safety" The woman looked hesitant at first before she took his hand he then led her to the Chantry. As he was about to enter he heard another scream he looked back and decided to run back to help whoever it was as he arrived to see a group of infected Templars surrounding a group of villagers. Elijah's eyes glowed at he sent an order to Bruno to help him save the villagers. As Elijah jumped in to help he didn't see a Templar archer aim at him until the arrow had stabbed into his back making him fall forward. The Templar knight he had been aiming his next attack at took advantage of this as he quickly brought down his mace hitting Elijah's horn and face. The mace broke Elijah's horn and cut down the side of his face. The impact also brought him to the ground as the arrow wound still bled out the blood poured from his face. The knight raised his mace again ready to kill Elijah when Bruno quickly slapped the knight away and then turned to Elijah nuzzling him gently. Elijah gasped out in pain. Bruno looked to the other villagers silently begging them for help, but they just backed away in fear and ran to the Chantry making Bruno growl. As gently as he could he picked up Elijah holding him close. But as he was distracted a knight had stabbed his sword into Bruno's back making him roar in pain. As a group of knights surrounded the two Bruno held Elijah closer as knight after knight slashed and stabbed Bruno wanted to attack back but he knew this would leave Elijah vulnerable to an attack. But with every attack Bruno felt himself getting weaker and weaker. When his vision began to blur a fireball hit a knight and a storm of arrows hit the rest. Bruno weakly turned his head to see Dorian, Varric and Solas running towards him. When they saw the now unconscious Elijah they all became worried.

"We can't help him here; the Herald is bringing the mountain down on us we need to move" Bruno took a deep breath and moved forward to where Dorian was pointing. As he moved forward the three shared a worried look before directing the demon when they arrived with the survivors the group that had abandoned the demon and the demon prince shared looks between each other. The survivors walked across the mountain slowly Bruno holding onto Elijah the entire journey even as he felt his wounds worsen. He knew there was no way he would survive the wounds, but he would make sure Elijah survived. They soon arrived at where they thought would be a safe distance to wait to see if the Herald had survived. As they set up the camp Bruno finally collapsed to his knees holding Elijah weakly now Dorian walked up to them and offered to take Elijah to be healed. Bruno was only able to hand Elijah over to Dorian to be taken into a tent to be healed before he fell further down to the ground.

A few hours passed by after Elijah had been healed, his horn remained broken and he hit on his face had left a scar across his eyebrow. The arrow wound also left a scar but that was easily hidden. As Elijah woke up he saw Dorian sat by his side reading a book when he turned to Dorian he slowly sat up.

"Dorian what happened?" Dorian recounted the attack before Elijah asked. "Wait, where's Bruno?" Dorian gave him a sympathetic look before helping him up and walked him outside to the outskirts of the camp where Bruno was now laying in the snow struggling to breath. The sight made Elijah cry as he walked up to Bruno. As he placed his hand on Bruno's head, Bruno turned to his friend and let out a small warble. "Of course, you did good, you were amazing" Elijah said through the tears. Another warble. "Are you sure?" After a pained whine Elijah lowered his head as tears fell quicker. "I understand, I'm going to miss you" Bruno pushed his head against Elijah. Dorian watched from behind Elijah as the two friends shared this moment waiting for the right time to speak up. Elijah took a deep breath before his eyes glowed purple and his hand ignited as he placed it to Bruno, Bruno disappeared in purple ash. When he was gone Elijah let out a pained scream but instead of the injuries causing this it was the pain of knowing Bruno was gone. Dorian walked up Elijah and kneeled next to him as he placed a hand on Elijah's shoulder Elijah quickly clung to Dorian crying into his shoulder. Dorian held him close and stroked his back soothingly as Elijah cried from the lose of his best friend.
