Twins [153] -Final-
DISCLAIMER: Just going to say this now, don't get worried when this chapter says it's a final. xD I'll explain what's going to be happening at the bottom of this chapter, so I'll ramble once you've finished reading it.
Sans is a MONSTER and not a HUMAN, so he doesn't follow HUMAN biology like a HUMAN skeleton. Same with Gaster and Papyrus.
---------------------------
"Oh my God... They're actually here, Sans. You did amazing!" Frisk was in full blown tears, staring down at their little girl who was lying comfortably within her arms after having been wrapped up nice and warm, and she seemed to stare around with those two eyes of hers with curiosity, as she was obviously taking in her surroundings and the faces she could see for the very first time. The girlfriend went to carefully sit at the skeleton's bedside, wanting to show her to him, and he could only tiredly smile, as he was literally exhausted. He probably would have shown more enthusiasm had he not felt so worn out all over. "They're so perfect..." Frisk murmured. "Sans?" Frisk looked back at her skeletal boyfriend, who seemed to have already closed his eyes. She knew she must have looked worried, because that's when Gaster spoke up.
"Don't worry, he will be okay. He is just extremely tired, that is all." Gaster beamed at the human, who turned her head to look at him. "Why don't you take her downstairs? I'm sure Papyrus is eager to see her. I'll keep a close eye on Sans while he rests." The father skeleton promised, causing Frisk to nod and she went to carefully get up, seeming to go slow as she must have already been super protective over the baby who was wrapped up like a burrito in her arms. She just knew she felt extremely tired, (not as tired as Sans obviously), and she couldn't stop crying happy tears at how overjoyed she was.
Walking downstairs, Frisk kept looking to the bundle in her arms, which just made it impossible not to smile widely because she was just so utterly cute with that look of wonder she had on her face. Heading to the living room, she found Papyrus who was currently awake, as he had likely been woken up by all the noise. "Papyrus." She said, catching his attention, which got the skeleton to turn around and look towards her, and he could hardly stop the gasp when he saw the child in her arms. "Try to be quiet, Sans is sleeping, and she might get a little scared by loud noises."
"WOWIE..." Papyrus murmured, staring at the little girl in Frisk's arms, who looked back at him with those two sockets of hers. "SHE LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE YOU. BUT THEN THERE'S A HINT OF SANS TOO." Papyrus gushed, smiling just as widely as Frisk as he looked like he was probably going to cry some cheerful tears of his own. This was his little niece after all, which made him her uncle, and he thought at one point when he had lost contact with Sans and he had thought he was gone that he had lost the privilege to be called an uncle. But he was actually an uncle; he didn't think he had been more proud of his brother and Frisk than he was right this moment.
"CAN I HOLD HER...?" Papyrus asked more quietly this time, appearing a little nervous to ask such a question. Probably perhaps because he was worried that Frisk wouldn't let him, or that the baby might not like him and will start crying the moment he chose to hold her. Frisk did think for a moment, looking at the little girl in her arms. It wasn't that she didn't trust Papyrus to hold her; it was just that she was already super protective over her. With a smile, and a small nod, Frisk did agree to allow the other skeleton to hold her.
"Just make sure you keep her supported, like this." Frisk softly said, as she was handing over the small child to the skeleton, and she was making sure that he was holding her correctly. "There you go, you're a natural." She giggled, seeing Papyrus stare with such wonder towards the little girl who stared back at him with just as much curiosity. "I think she likes her uncle Papyrus." Frisk murmured, causing Papyrus to let out a small laugh as he had finally broke and started to cry.
"I HOPE SO... YOU'RE A NATURAL TOO, FRISK... YOU'RE GOING TO BE A GREAT MOTHER." Papyrus sniffled, causing Frisk to let out a small giggle of her own, while she was also feeling tearful. Honestly, she had a feeling that her and Sans' daughter was going to take up so much of their time for a pretty long while; she didn't mind that at all. In fact, knowing that the two of them had an extra person to look out for made her the happiest she had been in awhile. She had never planned to be a mom this early on in her life, only being 20 years old, but she wasn't complaining in the slightest. She was overjoyed to be a mom, and that she got to be one with Sans of all people.
"Thank you, Papyrus." Frisk replied, beaming through her tears at the sight of Papyrus holding her and Sans' little girl - Luna. That was her name, and it suited her well. Frisk was ready to carefully place a hand on Luna's head to softly play with the small bits of hair she had on top of her head, at least until she was interrupted, hearing her being called back by Gaster. Frisk was hesitant about leaving Luna alone with Papyrus, again, not because she didn't trust him; just because she was super protective. But when she heard Gaster tell her to hurry it up a moment later, she knew it must have been pretty important, so she just had to fight against her overprotective nature for now.
"Gaster?" Frisk questioned, after having rushed up the stairs for the countless time. She got to the bedroom door, going to slowly lift the palm of her hand to push it open as it was slightly left ajar; then she paused. Wait, why had Gaster sounded so serious and in such a hurry to get her upstairs? Just thinking that was immediately enough to make her feel terrified. Had something gone wrong? Was something up with Sans? Though, she was quickly pulled from her fearful thoughts when she heard Sans' voice from the inside of the room, and what she heard him say almost caused her breath to hitch in her throat.
"n-no, please don't make me go through this again, i can't!" She heard him whine. Wait, was he still...? That's when she pushed the door open and she stepped into the room, seeing Sans awake once more, looking like he was struggling again. Gaster had been at his side, trying to motivate him while Frisk was absent, but it wasn't exactly doing much.
"What's going on? Is he still--?!" Frisk was saying, not even totally sure of what to say. She saw Gaster nod, and if she would have been able, her jaw probably would have dropped to the floor. But they thought they were only having one, but apparently they were having two?! Now she just felt like their lives got a million times more crazier. "B-But, how? I thought..." She was speechless, but upon hearing Sans whimpering again, she shook her head. She would ask questions later, but right now she had to focus on the other skeleton who already looked so damn exhausted and worn down. He had been ready to pass out after having Luna, she couldn't imagine how he was feeling right now. "Don't worry, Sans. I'm here again, so it'll be okay. We'll get you through this, just like we did the first time." She promised, softly wiping away any tears that rolled down his cheekbones.
He had been scared enough just to have one child, and it had taken everything in him to wrap his skull around that. Not just the birth itself, but the whole responsibility of it all. He thought he had been done after hearing the cries of their baby girl, and he had felt ready to sleep for days. But it wasn't over, and he had to go through this again. He hardly felt like he could get through it the first time, how the hell was he supposed to do this now, feeling even more tired and even more ache-y? "i'm so fuckin' tired! i just..."
"I know you are. I know... But the quicker we do this, the sooner it is out of the way, okay? It's just one more time, and then it's over. So, come on. I still believe in you all the same, so just try your hardest." Frisk told the emotional, exhausted skeleton, going to grip onto his hand just to make sure he really knew she was there for him in his time of need. She thought she had felt enough adrenaline the first time around, but she was definitely feeling it now. "Don't give up now, Sans. Would you forgive me if I gave up? I could imagine you saying you'd be pissed." Frisk joked with a small laugh. "So, please. Keep trying."
"i... i..." Sans started, as his pupils slowly trailed over to Frisk's pleading face. If he gave up now, chances are, he might die, wouldn't he? Or they might. Perhaps Gaster wouldn't let that happen, but just the possibility that Sans thought of was enough to scare him into trying to push once again. Hell, just this whole thing was fucking scary. One kid was enough of a responsibility, but two? He wasn't so sure... But still, he just kept trying. Just keep going - was all he could hear from Frisk and Gaster, and even himself inside his head. He just had to keep going, keep going...
He had honestly lost track of how much time had passed; of how long he had been going through this, but it had to have been awhile. Finally, after what felt like forever, what sounded like the cries of yet another child could be heard. It sounded like... A boy. He was pretty sure that's what he heard Gaster say this time around, right before he just felt like he wanted to pass out again. He ached all over, and all he wanted to do was just sleep for quite a long while. It felt like such a relief when he was able to quite quickly fall into an unconscious state, and he probably wasn't waking up again for awhile.
Though, when he did feel like he was coming to, he groaned, still feeling literally so worn out. How long had he slept for? Hours? Days? He wasn't sure. His soul also seemed to be back in its rightful place beneath his ribs. Grunting with effort, Sans went to slowly pull himself up into a sitting position, only to blink his eyes open a little more properly, and he saw three figures in the room, seeming to stand around the crib that was near the wall. It was Gaster, Frisk and Papyrus. He tiredly smiled, knowing they were likely looking down at their little girl and boy. "ugh... hey guys..." Sans croaked, catching their attention finally, which made all three look at him.
"Sans. You're awake." Frisk beamed widely, going to walk over to him, and she went very gently to go and give him a hug, wanting to be careful with him as she knew he was probably feeling quite frail at the moment. "You did so well... I'm so proud of you." Frisk whispered beside his skull, causing him to smile, as he did his best to hug her back. "You've been asleep for a couple of hours, just in case you were wondering."
"i thought so... can i... i mean, can i see 'em? they're okay, right?" Sans wondered.
"Perfectly fine. I did a couple of checks while you were asleep, and they're both happy and healthy." Gaster reassured Sans, who had looked tense for a minute, wondering how they were doing. But the moment that his father said that they were okay, he immediately relaxed and let out a small sigh of relief. He was glad to hear that they were fine. "Frisk is right though, we're all proud of you." The oldest skeleton said. "And Papyrus hasn't been able to stop gushing over the fact that he's an uncle to two babies instead of one." Gaster added with a chuckle, glancing towards Papyrus who beamed widely. Gaster was also overjoyed to know that he was also a grandfather, but he was quite tired himself from not yet really getting any sleep, so he hadn't been able to show his joy that well externally. But internally, he was extremely happy.
"THEY'RE SO CUTE!" Papyrus boasted, causing Sans to tiredly laugh. Upon saying that, Papyrus was allowed once more to hold the little girl - Luna - and he went to carefully carry her over to Sans, placing her in his arms which had already been ready to hold her. Right now, she currently appeared asleep, but then she let out a small sneeze and her eyes sleepily opened, causing Sans to be allowed to see her two black eyes, which were just like his. He stared at her with a look across his face that said: shock. At least until he smiled, and he couldn't stop himself from crying. They were happy tears though. He never imagined himself ever having a kid, not ever. But then one day, his life completely changed. Everything changed when Frisk had shown up and they had fallen in love, and he was just so fucking happy that that moment had happened. He never wanted to know what it would have been like if it hadn't.
"And this is her little brother." Frisk whispered, going to sit down in the little bit of space that was on the bed, and within her arms she held a little boy. Instead of having skin, this child was just bones - the opposite to Luna. And instead of having black sockets for eyes, his pupils were a glistening bright blue, just like Frisk's. It made him look so innocent and precious, especially when he had the same eyes as his mother. While the two were fussing over their children, Gaster and Papyrus quietly exited with one another, wanting to give the two a moment.
When the children had been born, it wasn't like Papyrus had wasted any time to let the others know about it. He had called up Mettaton, telling him of the news that they had been born and everyone was okay, and he could have sworn that even the robot had gotten a little teary eyed on the other end of the phone. Then, Mettaton made sure to stay on the phone when telling everyone else. Chara had squealed and cried out of happiness for them, Asriel, Blair, and Grillby had all congratulated them, and when Toriel and Asgore had been brought onto the phone, they had been overjoyed themselves. Everyone was just so glad for the two. They were so proud of them.
"So... Did we ever come up with a name for our little boy?" Frisk asked, knowing that they had had a lot of trouble trying to think of something. Thinking of a name for their little girl had been easy, because she had so badly wanted her to be named after her mom. But the boy name had been tricky. Glancing over to the baby boy in Frisk's arms, the skeleton thought for a moment. Gaster had suggested a name to him to use if he felt that it was right, and he was just thinking whether or not it was. But then he smiled. He knew that it would mean a lot to his father if he picked the name he had suggested, and not only did it just feel right for that reason, he did feel like it would suit their little boy. So...
"what about... leo?" Sans shrugged, seeing Frisk raise her eyebrows. "i can't take all the credit... gaster did suggest it to me. at first i wasn't sure, but... i think he might suit the name. what do ya think?" After all, her opinion mattered too. He didn't want it to be just about what he thought, just like how she had been the same once thinking of a girl's name. Frisk's lips curled into a wide grin, and she nodded.
"I like it. Leo... Little baby Leo." Frisk murmured, staring down at their son again, and just saying that out loud had choked her into a little sob. "I'm so happy..." She whispered, holding the baby in her arms close, while Sans grinned. When going through the whole birth, he had been utterly terrified to know they would have to take care of another child. That it was two instead of one, which would mean it would be a bigger responsibility. But with him and Frisk as a team, he just had to believe that they would get through it no matter what. They were never alone anyway, that was very clear to him by now. Over time, Frisk had really helped him build himself back up, she had helped him earn friends again, and she had helped him feel less alone. She had done so much, that he only hoped he could pay her back for one day in return.
Now, he only wanted to focus on protecting his family.

Author Note: Okay, here is where I'm going to ramble for a little bit.
Don't worry - it's not the end of the story! :D It's just that I decided to go ahead and split this story into another book, as I realise eventually I'm going to run out of space for this one, and I don't want it to end on one book in an awkward place.
So, I will be making a sequel book that will likely come out in the next few days (or I might upload a part of it later today), so stay tuned for that. Because I am honestly quite eager to continue writing this story. ^-^
EDIT: Just editing this part for future people who may come to this part-- if you're looking for the sequel, it's already up, and it's called "What's important" and is the second book to this story. So if you enjoyed this one so much, be sure to check that one out! :D
