Reunited [101]

"It's quite reckless to bring them back here. What if you had been seen?" Chara questioned, as she was standing with her hands on her hips at Frisk's side, while Gaster was carefully putting Sans in one of the beds, (a place he just had to find himself in again, being unconscious, again), after having tended to his wounds. "And there's another skeleton here..." Chara went on thoughtfully, glancing towards the tall Papyrus who looked fearful for his older brother. At least until Gaster told him to relax.

"Well, I had to deal with him sooner rather than later. Otherwise his soul could have split. And don't worry, we were careful. Leaving the truck and having the ability to teleport can be quite useful, I'll have you know." Gaster smugly retorted, causing Chara to roll her eyes at his comment. She still thought it was quite dangerous. But Gaster was pretty good at outsmarting people. He definitely had the confidence, now she saw where Sans got that attitude from.

"WILL HE BE OKAY?" Papyrus asked, while Frisk remained silent to hear that answer. Smiling, Gaster nodded. He believe Sans would be. The oldest brother had been through quite a lot in his lifetime, and every time he had fought his way through it, rather than giving up. Sans wasn't weak, he didn't just give up. Now that was even more of a true statement when he actually had someone to fight for. Frisk.

"He will be fine. The question is, are you okay? You don't have a job anymore. And you might have possibly just lost all of your friends." Gaster said sullenly, seeing his son's face become glum at that. He knew part of Papyrus probably regretted all of this. Surely, he had to, as he had basically given up his whole life. Everything he had worked for, it was gone in a single moment. He could have done well in the CIA, and instead he had gone against the law and saved his criminal brother from their grasp. He didn't know whether to be proud of him for wanting to protect Sans, or saddened for his ruined future.

"IT IS HARD BUT... I'LL BE OKAY. I THINK." Papyrus nodded. He was going to miss the others though. Now that he would no longer be a CIA agent, and he broke the law, he would have to hide like the rest of them for the rest of his life, right? He wouldn't be able to see Alphys no more, or Mettaton... His face grew sadder at that, feeling like it stung his soul a little knowing he might never see that robot again. They wouldn't be able to call him either. He had lost his phone in all the commotion.

"Thank you. For coming by to save us." Frisk spoke up, finally breaking her own silence. She hadn't said a word as she had been paying more attention on the sleeping Sans, who looked surprisingly peaceful despite the events they had just gone through. But he had passed out when being put into the truck, so he probably didn't even know they were back at the headquarters yet. Both Gaster and Papyrus smiled at that, glad that Frisk appeared somewhat relieved that they were out of danger; that Sans was safe.

"Of course, Frisk. He is my son, after all. And Papyrus' brother." Gaster chuckled, while Frisk weakly beamed and nodded.

"And your future husband." Chara joked, causing Frisk to softly blush while the others laughed at her comment. Pfft. Frisk didn't need to think about such things like that right now. Her and Sans hadn't been living together for that long, she wasn't expecting some kind of commitment like that from the skeleton, especially right now. Neither of them were really ready for it, neither did they want to rush into anything.

They had this whole issue to fix first. And that was running away.

"Yeah well, we're going to have to wait for Sans to heal up properly before we go sending you running off anywhere. He'll also probably be awake soon, so you won't have to worry about sitting at his bedside for days and nights on end." Gaster grinned towards Frisk, at least until he frowned some. "Though, do stay close to him. Just in case Blair comes wondering around." He pointed out, and Frisk simply nodded, gently resting her hand on top of Sans'. Smiling, Gaster glanced towards the others, basically saying they should leave, knowing Frisk probably wanted to be alone with Sans right now to collect her thoughts. A lot had happened today. And things wouldn't be over until they fled to some place that might be safer than remaining in this town.

Admittedly, Gaster on the inside wasn't feeling too good about Papyrus losing his job, about ruining his future, even if he was trying to keep a more positive face on despite everything that had happened. But what was Papyrus supposed to do now? The only option was for him to hide away with the rest of them. If he went out and Undyne saw him, he would be arrested for stopping Undyne from arresting Sans. For obstructing justice.

"Papyrus..." Gaster decided to stop him for a moment, just so he and his son could have a moment to talk. He sighed. "Why did you mess around with all of this? Why did you choose to go up against Undyne and lose your job, when you could have done well for yourself. You have ruined your future, you know that, don't you?" Gaster spoke seriously, but it was clear he was more saddened for his youngest son than angry. Papyrus exhaled, but it didn't seem like he even needed a moment to think about what he wanted to say.

"BECAUSE... I KNEW THAT IF I DIDN'T ACT, SANS PROBABLY WOULD HAVE GONE TO PRISON. AND FRISK. I KNEW THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY JOB TO GO AGAINST HIM, TO DO WHAT THE LAW EXPECTS OF US, BUT IF MY JOB REQUIRED PUTTING MY OWN BROTHER BEHIND BARS, THEN I DON'T WANT IT." Papyrus said bluntly, sounding passionate about what he was saying, just because he meant it. Family was more important to him than any job was, than any future with the CIA was. His own future didn't matter if it meant he would be working every day, while thinking about his older brother rotting away behind the bars of a jail cell. He couldn't stand the thought.

"Well... You're one of us now, I suppose. That doesn't mean I'm inviting you to get involved in the same way that Sans does, and even if Asgore tries to invite you in, I won't allow it. You're only here to hide, Papyrus. Nothing more. Sometimes I regret allowing Sans to get involved as much as I have. I don't want to have to regret it with you too." Gaster murmured. After all, it was probably partly his fault why Sans had become who he had become. At least before running into Frisk. He hadn't been very liked among anyone, (but Gaster didn't know what happened between Sans and Blair - so he didn't really know that he wasn't really to blame at all.)

"THE MAFIA, HUH...?" Papyrus spoke thoughtfully, seeming somewhat scared about it. It was as if he was in a whole new world he really was not used to. He had become so used to being on the side where they were there to keep the public safe and to do good things, that it felt so alien to be on the opposite of that. Though... In their own ways, maybe everyone was trying to do the right thing. To protect those they cared about. It's why Papyrus could never see Sans as evil - first of all, he was his brother, and second of all, he likely had his reasons for doing what he did.

"At least it does mean we'll get to spend more time together." Gaster smiled, seeming somewhat more cheerful when he mentioned that. Papyrus being on the opposite side had meant that he never really got to see his youngest son as much as he had gotten to see Sans. But now that he was no longer in the CIA, and he would have to stay in hiding with them, it meant he would get to see Papyrus more. Honestly, that part made him a little more happy.

"YEAH... YEAH, I GUESS YOU'RE RIGHT." Papyrus beamed, smiling the realest smile he had in awhile, seeing as he hadn't smiled much with all this stress going on. But for now he could actually relax. He could actually not stress out.

He was properly reunited with his family.
