Nothing Goes Right [56]

"wait, frisk, how did ya...?" He was completely speechless. How in the world had Frisk known about his birthday? He knew he never told her. So, what gives? One of the others must have told her.

"Chara told me." Frisk explained, pointing towards the girl standing in the dark green sweater and jeans. Of course Chara was the one to tell her, who else would it have been? But, whatever. He was actually happy that Frisk had been the one to plan this party. Knowing that she was the one who wanted to do this for him, it meant a lot.

"oh... well... thanks, frisk." Sans managed a small smile, seeing her genuinely surprised that he had thanked her. Part of her had been worried that the skeleton wouldn't like this at all, that he would complain about the idea of having to celebrate his birthday. He wasn't mad though.

"That's okay, Sans. Now, how about we all sit down at the table? We are here to eat after all." Frisk teased, considering they were in a restaurant and all. Sans chuckled, but then nodded, going to take his seat right next to Frisk. Of course, there just had to be one flaw to this whole thing. And that was the fact that Andrew was here. But of course they were going to bring him along, they couldn't leave him alone at the house with Toriel, Chara and Asriel also being here.

His father was here, his brother, Grillby... Just his friends really, and one uninvited guest. However, as much as Sans didn't want him here, he didn't want to start a fight in the restaurant, on his birthday. So... He'd try to bear it for now.

Strangely, with everyone wishing him happy birthday, it felt... Nice. Which was something he didn't expect. On the normal occasion he might have cursed anyone who did such a thing, just because he was so against the idea of his birthday, of getting older. Today felt different. Probably because it was planned by the girl he loved; it warmed his soul that she was thinking of him... Even if she was only trying to be a good friend.

Carefully, Sans decided to pick up his menu, staring over it with curiosity. If truth be told, he had no idea what he was going to have. Eating out wasn't something he did very often. Problem also was he wasn't very hungry. Probably because he had been snacking on a pack of crisps before he got here. Now he understood why Frisk told him not to.

Everyone was currently deciding what they would want to eat, while Sans was just clueless about what he wanted. "hey, frisk? what are ya gettin'?" He questioned towards the girl who probably looked about as clueless as he did.

"To tell you the truth, Sans, I don't know." Frisk laughed a little. "Maybe we should decide on what to get together." She suggested.

"or just pick two random meals and if we don't like them, hope that the other will like them and swap." Sans joked with a grin. Both him and Frisk chuckled a little.

Watching the two curiously, Gaster couldn't help but smile and laugh to himself a little behind his menu. Sans' brother - Papyrus, looked at him puzzled as to what was funny. His father grinned. "It's nothing. I was just thinking how nice this was, that's all."

Glancing towards Sans, just as Gaster had, Papyrus managed a small smile when he saw his older brother joking around with the human sitting next to him. It was probably the first time in however long it had been that he saw Sans appearing a little more relaxed. That human, they must have been important to him for him to go acting like that around them. He beamed happily at the thought.

With food then later ordered, that's when everyone broke back into conversation. Sans was almost ready to start talking to Frisk again, however just as he opened his mouth to say something, Andrew had begun talking to her, taking all of her attention away. Quietly, he growled a little to himself. He knew Andrew being here was just going to piss him off. It was his birthday, and for whatever reason the world thought it would be fun to torture him by having him here.

"What are you growling about?" Toriel had asked curiously, as she was sitting on the other side, beside Sans. The skeleton exhaled, shaking his head in dismissal.

"it's nothin'. i'm fine." He lied, just wanting to not talk about it and hope that Andrew would stop becoming an annoyance. Somehow it just felt like Andrew was trying to get on his nerves on purpose (even though that wasn't actually the case). He just... He wished he had killed the bastard when he had a chance.

Getting in the way of his now sour and miserable thoughts, food was here. The waiters that came along ended up putting everyone's plates in front of them, and said the typical "hope you enjoy your meal" phrase.

Sans silently stared down at his meal for a bit, then he soon proceeded to pick up his fork and just decided to eat some of it. Surprisingly, it tasted good. At least that was something that could fucking go right for once.

"How is your meal, Sans? Does it taste good?" Frisk asked kindly towards the quiet skeleton, only for her expression to sadden when he didn't answer, neither did he look at her. "Sans?"

"huh? oh, yeah, it's good..." Sans gave her a weak, forced smile in the hope that she would be convinced that he was okay. To Frisk, it was clear he was lying. For some reason, he was unhappy. What had she done wrong? She had upset him somehow, hadn't she?

"Sorry..."

"what?"

"I've upset you again, haven't I?" Frisk frowned towards the skeleton, who looked at her confused. Why did she always assume it was her fault he was sad? It wasn't her fault. It was Andrew's.

"no, it wasn't ya. really, i'll be okay." Sans said with a slightly more real smile. She just hoped he was being honest with her...

"Hey, Frisk?" Sans heard Andrew speak up, which made Sans sigh and look towards the two out of the corner of his eye. "You got some food on your face." He heard him point out, only for Frisk to ask the question of where. Instead of telling her, he decided to kiss her on the cheek, likely taking off whatever she had gotten on her face. That was it, he was done.

"i need a smoke." Sans grumbled, standing up from his seat, now very clearly annoyed. He felt people's eyes on him, but didn't care. He just needed to get outside and he needed some "fresh" air.

"Wait, Sans!" Frisk called after him, wanting him to stay. The look on his face just then, he was quite clearly pissed off. What had happened that suddenly made him feel like that? With how kept to himself he was, she was so confused.

His younger brother had already gone and got out of his seat to go after the furious skeleton, finding him just outside the restaurant, already having lit himself a cigarette. "WHAT HAPPENED BACK THERE?" Papyrus asked. Sans growled.

"none of your fuckin' business, papyrus!" Sans snapped at him, before taking another puff of his cigarette. Seeing the look of hurt on his little brother's face, of course he felt bad. He hadn't even meant to snap at him. He was really on edge right now. "sorry..."

"YOU SEEMED REALLY CHEERFUL EARLIER. NOW...?" Papyrus questioned as Sans exhaled.

"i just... ugh, what's the point? i have feelings for that girl i was sittin' next to - frisk." Sans glumly explained, putting the cigarette back to his mouth as a look of realisation crossed Papyrus' face. So that's what it had been. "i can't stand andrew. i hate that he's here. it's like he's purposely tryin' to torture me."

"SANS... YOU KNOW THAT LIKELY ISN'T TRUE. ANDREW JUST WANTS TO BE CARING TOWARDS FRISK IF THEY ARE TOGETHER." He said, hearing Sans scoff. "I KNOW IT'S PROBABLY NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR, BUT..."

"but what? so i'm just forced to stand aside as the girl i love has to flirt with some other guy? i have to be forced to suffer, just like i've suffered all my life? just like how bad things have to keep happenin' to me?!" Sans complained. Papyrus was almost ready to speak, but couldn't answer, as Frisk had come outside, seeing the angered skeleton.

"Sans, what's wrong? And don't you say there isn't anything wrong, because there very clearly is." Frisk said, putting her hands on her hips with impatience. She wanted Sans to tell her the truth as to why he was so furious. That wasn't likely to happen.

"leave me alone, frisk... i'm not feelin' up to this." Sans glumly replied, proceeding to stomp out his cigarette.

"No! You will tell me what's wrong! I thought I was your friend, I thought we were getting somewhere and now you're just closing me out again?! Why Sans, why?!"

"does it really fuckin' matter?! nothin' i say, do or feel matters, so what is the point?!" Sans seethed. "so just leave me the fuck alone!" With that said, he began to storm off to his car.

"Sans! Come on don't do this!" Frisk yelled after him.

However, it was clear that he didn't want to listen.
