Here's The Deal [21]
Sans couldn't believe it. Somehow, without even knowing it, Frisk had managed to find someone who might have been a good source of information. Whether he'd give it or not, would be a whole other story. At least however, it meant he had a chance of being a step closer to finding Gaster, if this kid would talk. He couldn't leave the guy alone for too long though. There was always the chance that he might have been dangerous; he might have targeted Frisk for some kind of reason. If that was the case, he had to act and soon. Otherwise Frisk could only get herself in trouble.
Of course he had no way of contacting the girl, seeing as she didn't have a phone. Perhaps getting her one probably would have been a good idea when she had been living with him in his apartment, but he never thought she would have needed it, as in all honesty even though he had wanted her to leave, he didn't expect her to, just because she appeared so persistent. Whatever, this wasn't even a problem. All he had to do was go to Toriel's house and ask to talk to her. It would probably take some convincing of Toriel if she really heard about the way he had been treating Frisk. But he could do it.
Driving to Toriel's the next morning, Sans made sure to do it early so there was the likely chance that Frisk was still at home. Otherwise he'd have to try and hunt her down if she had gone out with the guy again. Another thing was that he didn't want Frisk getting too attached to this possible dirtbag, otherwise she'd only get in the way when he tried to take the guy down and demand things from him. He wouldn't let Frisk stop him.
When he arrived to his destination, he stopped the car and went to climb out, before making his way up the path to Toriel's home. He could already imagine the expression she'd have plastered across her face when she saw him but he didn't care. Getting to James was all he cared about right now. So, he knocked on the door without even a second of hesitation, waiting for the goat to answer. A couple of minutes later, she did. She definitely looked displeased.
"Oh, Sans. What are you doing here?" She sighed, glaring down at him. "If you're here to boss around Frisk, I'm not allowing it. I've already been hearing about how you've been being horrible to her. When all I did was ask you to take care of her!" She fumed. Sans scratched the back of his skull.
"i know, i'm just here to talk to her, that's all." Sans said. At her unconvinced expression, he continued. "she promised that she'd help me find my dad, and there's somethin' i found out that i need to talk to her about."
"You're getting her involved in trying to find Gaster? Sans... You have no idea what you're getting her into. For all you know it could be extremely dangerous what might happen next when you try to go and look for him and if she goes with you you could get her hurt. I don't approve." Toriel went on.
"please." Sans spoke in a more desperate tone this time, which caught Toriel a little off guard at how much it sounded like he needed this. Seeing Sans appear to plead, it was so alien to her with the way he was now, with how rough around the edges he had become. But for about a second, it was almost like he had reverted back to being a small child, who loved his father. She sighed.
"Fine. She's upstairs." Toriel stepped aside, allowing Sans in. He couldn't help but grin, glad to be getting somewhere.
Sitting upon the bed that Toriel had been letting her sleep in, considering it was a spare, Frisk was just spending her time, reading a book. Hearing a knock at the door, she tore her two wandering pupils from the pages and looked towards her bedroom door, wondering who it could be. "Who's knocking?"
"it's me." The skeleton's voice said on the other side of the door, before going to turn the handle and opening it. Frisk was surprised to see him here. "we need to talk. it's important."
"Uh... Okay." Frisk nodded, going to close her book and place it aside, before motioning for Sans to step in. He stood a little awkwardly at first, before stepping into the room and closing the door behind him. "What's so important that you got to come here to tell it to me?" She asked. The skeleton crossed his arms.
"it's about your friend. james." Sans admitted, which caused Frisk to raise an eyebrow. Why would Sans mention James and say that what he wanted to talk about was important? Maybe... Was Sans going to tell her that she couldn't hang out with the guy anymore or something? Like he was jealous or something? No, that was too out of character for Sans. He wouldn't be jealous, especially not for her. Not that she cared.
"What about him?"
"he might be a possible resource into what might help me find gaster." Sans told her, causing her to pull a shocked expression across her face.
"What? How? How did you come to that conclusion?"
"when i was lookin' on possible people on who to go after. one of them was of him, i'm sure of it. there's always the chance he might have just targeted ya to gain your trust and then maybe screw ya over. it wouldn't surprise me."
"Are you really sure about that? Or are you just jumping to conclusions?"
"why would i be jumpin' to conclusions?"
"Because maybe you don't like him? Maybe you don't want me to be friends with him? Or maybe... You're jealous?" She shrugged. Sans rolled his eyes, growling slightly.
"i am NOT jealous. honestly kid, i could care less if ya wanted to make out with the guy or not. point is, he's someone who i could use to find my father. and i'll take him to headquarters and question him with or without ya yes or no. this is nothin' to do with me and ya. i don't see why i'd be jealous. it should be pretty clear to ya where i stand, right?"
"Not really... One minute you're nice, the next you're not..." She sighed, glancing away from him with a frown. She liked the nice side to Sans. The side that seemed softer, and more conversational than the other side to him. It was that side to him that sometimes got her thinking things. Maybe feeling things. She wasn't really sure. She didn't know what she felt about Sans, because he was so confusing. She knew she cared about him, knew she wanted to be there. And somehow, maybe he had somehow got her thinking about him a lot, even though he could also be a jerk. Where she stood, she wasn't completely sure. But she hated to feel conflicted. "I just wish you'd choose a side you want to show to me already. Rather than showing both and going back and forth all the time."
"frisk..." Sans exhaled, shaking his head. "look..." He paused, seeing the expression of what looked like sadness upon her face and everything he was about to say to shoot her down suddenly shattered on the inside of his mind. For some reason, he couldn't bring himself to say what he had thought of saying. He thought of saying something terrible, something to make her hate him again.
But they'd just be going back and forth...
"alright, here's the deal. i don't... hate ya as much as i did when i first met ya, i'll admit it, 'k?" He saw her face practically light up when he said that. She really, really was desperate to be his friend, wasn't she? "and... you're not entirely useless. i like to give ya shit for seemin' like you're nothin' but a pain - ya can be that but... you're also useful and loyal. it's thanks to ya accidentally runnin' into this guy that i even feel more hopeful about findin' dad. and findin' him means a lot to me. so, if ya can really help me, then... you'll have more of my respect, 'k?" Sans spoke. Hearing Sans say all of that, it really made Frisk smile. This was the Sans she wanted to see. The less jagged version. This was who he should be.
"...Alright, Sans." She nodded. "I'll help you."
