Dancing [52]

Still standing on that balcony, Sans had been busy letting out a puff of smoke (not from the cold air, but rather a cigarette), all while minding his own business. When being busy, a lot of the time these days he never had the time to take a smoke, but with the fact that he was alone and not up to much, all while having these irritating thoughts, he decided now would be a good time. Just hoping that the nicotine kicking into his system would help him relax some. He had finished off the food that he had brought out with him. He now just only had some of his drink left, so he was almost ready to go back inside. He'd probably have to hide in the corner of the room, considering he was stuck at a place that really did not have the right kind of environment for him, as he wasn't the most social butterfly.

Going back inside into the warmth, Sans went back to the food area. Of course, he started stacking his plate with more snacks again, before feeling someone slide up to his side. "hey bro." Sans noticed it was him, without really even paying attention. Papyrus smiled.

"SANS, I WAS WONDERING WHERE YOU WENT TO! SOME OF MY, UM, FRIENDS WANTED TO MEET YOU." Papyrus admitted, which earned a small frown from Sans. Shit, really? What if they found him strange, or suspicious? What if they somehow already knew something about him and they would be trying to catch him out? That was something else he didn't need at this party. It already felt like his emotions were being tortured with the fact that he could only watch from the sidelines while Frisk was looking the most beautiful he had ever seen her.

Then again, like he had thought before, this was the chance for him to make a good impression. If he made a positive impression, it might possibly benefit him in the future. So... He might as well try. "fine, i'll meet your friends..." Sans groaned, going to follow after his cheerful brother who was definitely enthused for him to do just that.

"UNDYNE, ALPHYS, METTATON." Papyrus pointed to each of them, as if he was pointing them out for Sans to remember each of them. So he made sure to take that into a count. Undyne was the fish. Right, that wasn't very forgettable, with the fact he had seen her with Papyrus on a few occasions. The shorter yellow shy looking dinosaur was Alphys, and the flirtatious robot must have been Mettaton. Right. "THIS IS SANS." Papyrus said, pointing to his older brother.

Seeing he had been introduced, Sans gave them a slight nod to say hi. The fish lady was the first to speak. "Papyrus, in all the years that I've known you, I didn't even know you had a brother." She said.

"I agree." Mettaton spoke up, while the dinosaur just nodded with a small noise of obvious agreement. So, Papyrus had never brought him up to his friends? Man, when he thought he was dead, he must have been dealing with his loss all alone... At least it made things less complicated, seeing as if Papyrus had mentioned he had died, it would be strange and awkward for him to show up.

"AH, YES, WELL... I'VE JUST NEVER REALLY SPOKEN ABOUT FAMILY MUCH." Papyrus murmured, scratching the back of his skull, hoping to hide his nervousness. He just hoped they didn't find it suspicious that he never thought to mention Sans. The older skeleton thought he might as well say something, to try and help his little brother.

"we weren't always close." With them being apart for so long, not talking to each other, that wasn't exactly a lie. "papyrus probably didn't wanna bring me up because we didn't always get along."

"O-Oh, right." Alphys answered.

"BUT WE HAVE SOLVED OUR DIFFERENCES NOW, RIGHT BROTHER?" He beamed towards Sans, who managed a small chuckle while shrugging and nodding slightly.

"i guess so."

"Well, it's lovely to meet you." Mettaton spoke. "You're lucky to have such a charming brother." Mettaton smiled towards Papyrus who nervously laughed. Oh? What was this? Sans couldn't help but notice the glance that the robot had given his little brother, not to mention how embarrassed the younger skeleton seemed. Did they perhaps have a thing for each other? Sans wasn't really sure how to feel about that. Then again, did he really have the right to be over protective now when he hadn't been around for awhile?

"yeah, he's just the coolest." Sans grinned towards his little brother who continued to look sheepish at the compliments. Sans didn't know whether to feel happy or concerned that Papyrus had someone he appeared to care about. Wanting his little brother to have a nice life, he knew one day he'd want to have his own partner, someone to be with. But then it scared Sans, the idea that maybe that person would hurt him. Well, if those two ever did get together and Mettaton hurt him? He'd want to kick his ass.

"Hey, Al, do you want to dance?" Undyne questioned to her dinosaur wife, who blushed (she was still shy, even if they had been together a long time already). With a nod, she agreed and smiled brightly while linking her hand with Undyne's.

"I-It was n-n-nice meeting you, S-Sans." Alphys stuttered out, warning a nod from Sans.

"same here." Sans replied, before glancing towards Papyrus and Mettaton once more. He exhaled. "if ya two wanna dance too, go ahead." The older skeleton said. When Papyrus tried to protest, saying he didn't want him to feel abandoned because he'd be standing here alone, Sans insisted he didn't mind. Managing a small grin, the short monster watched his brother and the robot head off together, going to join the many other people at this party who were also dancing together.

Watching the two for awhile, Sans popped another bit of food into his mouth. He kept his pupils focused to the both of them, until his attention slowly drifted elsewhere. Sans almost snorted when he saw his father dancing - it looked more against his free will, as Grillby was probably trying to get the man to enjoy himself a little more.

Frowning, once again his pupils went elsewhere, landing directly on Frisk... And Andrew of course, but mainly Frisk. She looked like she was having so much fun, and while it made him glad for her, it also made his soul just want to split into little tiny specks. Really, he wanted to stop feeling like this. He wanted to stop feeling all warm and fuzzy, while also feeling like he was dying on the inside at the same time.

"You keep frowning like that, and your face will get stuck like it." Chara spoke, standing at his side, following his stare with her own eyes. He hadn't even noticed the Dreemurr girl was there until that moment. Had he really been that spaced out?

"do ya always have to keep showin' up uninvited?" Sans grumbled with annoyance. Rolling her eyes and crossing her arms, Chara replied.

"It's not my fault you're standing with your mouth hanging open." She pointed out. "If you want to dance with Frisk that bad, just ask her."

"i can't." Sans shook his head. To Chara's surprise, he actually sounded fearful of what might happen. He was scared of asking her. It wasn't something you saw every day - Sans showing that he was scared. But it was happening. She exhaled.

"Alright, fine." With that said, Chara went to head towards the two, and Sans tried to stop her by calling out to her, telling her to stop. But she didn't listen. Gulping, Sans watched from where he was standing. He saw the three talking, and felt like he wanted to scream when Chara pointed at him. What was she saying? She wasn't telling Frisk anything, was she?

Surprised, Sans saw Chara begin to dance with Andrew, and Frisk slowly walked over, her hands linked together behind her back as she walked. She looked nervous herself, almost as if she was expecting Sans to be mean to her about something. "Hey, Sans." She spoke. "Chara said that she wanted to dance with Andrew, and that you seemed lonely by yourself. So, I was wondering if you wanted to dance with me for a bit?" She offered out her hand.

"huh?"

"You don't have to if you don't want to." Frisk frowned, concerned that Sans was going to snap at her. He swallowed.

"n-no. it's not that." Sans growled a little, trying to seem a little irritated, just so it didn't look obvious what he was really feeling. He was overjoyed that she was asking him to dance with her. But he knew not to get too excited about it, it would only last for a moment and then she would be back in Andrew's arms again. "sure, whatever. i'll dance with ya." He said, glad to see her smile.

With that said, he linked his hand in hers, and they headed to the dance floor together.
