Chapter 24:

*Third POV*

When things settled, everyone immediately set to work, as if they all knew what to do. Undyne threw Johnathan over her shoulder (with some struggle) then headed to the elevator, where she would take him down to the interrogation rooms. Everyone else went about their daily lives, Alphys heading out to write a report, and Asgore going with Undyne to make sure Johnathan made it safely down.

He also sent guards around the mansion, making sure there were no other attackers, and that the home was secure.

Toriel helped Frisk by taking her to the infirmary to check for wounds or any mental damage. Sans, watched the fight that broke out out between Gaster and Chara.

"You could have shot him!" Gaster argued, marching up to her with anger in his step.

She turned to him with a fiery stance, and refused to back down as he got closer. She replied, "Actually gas head, I couldn't have shot him. He can tell us about Cortex! And maybe even Capture! Killing him would have ruined any chance of getting information!!!"

Gaster paused for a moment and considered this. He straightened and realized she was right, but he wasn't willing to admit it just yet. So he snarled, "I saw your hand shaking, this wasn't just about the information. You just don't have the guts."

"It was about the information," she argued back, clenching her fists that were now shaking in anger, "Since everyone here is such a horn dog for information! I thought I might be doing everyone a FAVOR!"

Gaster growled and shook his head, leaving to think and let himself relax.

Asriel walked to Chara, and then they proceeded with another one of their silent conversations, before leaving, Sans now alone.

Sans rushed after Gaster and grabbed his father's arm. "Wait!"

Gaster looked at him, still angry yet relaxing slightly at the sight of his son, staying silent.

Sans asked urgently, "Who was watching the cameras...? There had to be someone, right? And if so... how did Johnathan get so far...? He almost got away with it, until I came in."

Realization hit Gaster, and his eyes widened as he stared at Sans, the questions ringing in his mind.

Of course there had to be someone! How could they have been so stupid?

Luckily Gaster knew exactly who was, and he frowned as he mumbled, one name:

"Alphys..."

***********

Capture raged.

It had been a few hours since Johnathan's arrest, and Capture stood in his office, swiping his desk clean in anger, listening to the trinkets crash to the floor.

How could Johnathan have lost?

Everything went perfectly!!!

If only that damn skeleton hadn't gotten in the way-

Johnathan was the best in the business, and he had the perfect motivation of capturing Frisk. How could he have failed so easily? Was his daughter's life not enough to succeed?

Taking a deep breath, Capture paused and let himself relax.

This wasn't as bad as he thought.

He still had a spy running around the Underground, and they still didn't know who it was. Of course, they were getting close.

Even so, he could find another way to collect the information expert.

Johnathan's failure was only a simple mistake.

It would only affect him.

Capture stopped to regain his posture, and he looked to the side of the room, a computer screen showing the different cameras in Johnathan's house.

Capture couldn't help but feel a tang of guilt from his threats, but then he realized that he made a promise.

He had to keep it.

Johnathan's daughter was off at school, and Capture knew that any moment, she would return home, and find her father missing...

She would be alone.

Pulling the picture of Arianna out of his pocket, Capture sneered, and looked at it.

Then, he crushed it in his hand with a cold, stone, glare.

********

It was Undyne, Papyrus, Asgore, and Sans who were in the room with Johnathan when he woke up.

He woke up to a bright light shinning in his eyes, and around him, was an empty white room. Sans watched Johnathan try to struggle out of the ties behind his back, and he tried to move the metal chair beneath him before realizing it was bolted.

Undyne was the best knot tier in the Underground.

Sans knew there was no way he would get out of it.

Instead of speaking, or asking, "Where am I?", Johnathan simply squinted at the light, and lowered his head to open his eyes fully, and glare darkly at the ground.

Sans once again noticed his concern, and he took a hold of it, wondering if something would slip.

He watched the captive silently.

The four Underground members glanced at each other from behind the tinted window, and they all waited for someone to speak.

Mainly, they were waiting for Asgore, and he paused for a moment to think before clearing his throat and nodding to Papyrus.

Undyne groaned and Papyrus clapped with glee.

"OH YIPPY!!! I GET TO GO IN FIRST!" He called, running to the door before slipping inside.

Sans wondered again why they let Papyrus, (whom was no smarter than a child), go in to interrogate dangerous criminals that could easily out smart him.

Then he remembered Papyrus had rules.

"HELLO JOHNATHAN!" Papyrus called loudly, striking a heroic stance as he proudly proclaimed, "I AM PAPYRUS! LEADER OF THE UNDERGROUND SECURITY! I AM HERE TO INTERROGATE YOU!"

Undyne pinched the bridge of her nose and shook her head with a sigh, snarling under her hand. Sans would have laughed, but his focus was on Johnathan, the concern still striking in the strong man's eyes.

Johnathan said nothing, and instead looked up at Papyrus, (the light now dimmer due to the control panel in front of Asgore).

After waiting a moment, Papyrus continued, "BUT DO NOT WORRY, DEAR HUMAN! I WILL NOT HARM YOU! I WILL SIMPLY ASK YOU A FEW QUESTIONS, AND I HOPE YOU DO YOUR BEST TO ANSWER!"

The, he quickly added, "THIS ISN'T A TEST, BY THE WAY! SO YOU CAN ANSWER WITH WHATEVER YOU WANT..."

Johnathan continued staring, unfazed.

"OF COURSE..." Papyrus said, looking a little less enthusiastic, "YOU DO HAVE TO ANSWER."

Silence.

Looking at his hand, Papyrus read the questions he wrote on himself earlier, "COULD YOU TELL US WHY... YOU TRIED TO KIDNAP THE DEAR FRISK?"

Still silence.

"COULD YOU..." He read slowly, trying to remember what he had written, "TELL US WHO CAPTURE IS?"

These questions were too bold, and Sans recognized that quickly. Papyrus was too innocent to interrogate this man, and he knew they needed a stronger force.

Asgore seemed to know the same thing, because it was at that moment he nodded to Undyne.

Undyne grinned and chuckled, cracking her knuckles before rushing into the room.

"Alright enough of that," She snarled, shoving Johnathan's head and having him give a special glare in her direction.

She stood in front of him and grabbed the back of his hair roughly as if to scare him, gripping it toughly and leaning forward darkly as she growled, "Listen here punk, I don't want to play any games. Just tell us the damn information, and maybe, we'll keep you intact..."

The concern stayed the same, and Sans could tell that Johnathan clearly wasn't worried for his own safety.

Someone else...?

Johnathan looked up to face Undyne, their faces inches apart, yet his expression unchanged.

He inhaled softly, and spoke suddenly.

"Good cop," he stated, nodding to Papyrus who was watching with wide eyes in the corner, "and bad cop," he nodded to Undyne.

Then he continued, "You seriously don't bring your interrogation out of basic police systems? I would expect you know I have avoided the police most my life, and your interrogations will get nothing out of me."

Undyne stared at him, and blinked.

Then she forced her anger again and slapped him across the face, Papyrus gasping, but then relaxing when he remembered it was "fake".

Sans hated having him in there.

"We aren't here for your criticism!" Undyne shouted.

"Correct," Johnathan said, his face still emotionless as he looked back at her, "You're here for my information. But I am telling you, that you can not have it."

Sans rolled his eyes, noticing the resemblance Johnathan had with Frisk.

"So there must be some sort of motivation keeping you..." Undyne growled, moving away from his chair and stepping behind him to act intimidating. "But don't you get it? Your motivation is useless in here. Is it loyalty to Cortex? I thought you left..."

Johnathan once again went silent, and Sans continued to watch the concern grow.

"So if it's not loyalty, what is it? Hm? What are you scared of? Because what ever it is, staying silent won't do ANYTHING to help you."

Anger erupted from Johnathan, and he shouted suddenly, "Let me go!"

"NO!" Papyrus said, "THAT WOULD BE AGAINST THE RULES."

Undyne slapped Johnathan again, and growled, "We ask the questions here..."

"BUT..." Papyrus started, "HE DIDN'T ASK A QUESTION-"

"Look here punk," Undyne continued, ignoring Papyrus, "I get you may have 'Somewhere to be' But we aren't letting you out of here, until you give us the information!"

"You won't let me out of here either way..."  Johnathan grumbled, back to his calm state.

But his worry was worse.

Undyne grinned, "Aren't you smart..."

There was a moment of silence before suddenly, the interrogation room door opened, and Sans walked inside.

"Heya," He smiled, waving a hand at the confused heads that turned to him. "I'm Best Cop. Only the best. And I have only one question for you."

He walked up to Johnathan slowly, his hands in his pockets as he asked in a serious tone, "... What are you so concerned about...?"

The room went silent again, and Johnathan seemed to soften as he stared at Sans, their eyes locked in a serious gaze, waiting for the other to break it.

Neither did, and Sans tried to read more of what the man was thinking.

All he could see was fear, and worry.

Where was his patience?

There was no answer, and Sans frowned before pulling his gaze away, and nodding to Papyrus and Undyne,

"Come on," He said, already knowing what to do, "Lets leave him in here for hours until he tells us. Until then, he will have to be patient."

And with that, the three left.

Johnathan was alone.

And terrified.
